We wanted to be in District 1 in Ho Chi Minh City. This hotel is definitely in a great location for sites, shopping and restaurants. We loved the area. We booked with the hotel their car servcie to pick us up at the airport. After a long international flight we prefer to have some one there when we arrive. We were expecting a person holding a sign with our names. We looked and waited for 30 minutes and no one from the hotel came. I went back inside the airport and went to a counter that was selling SATSCO car service to the city. The woman was so helpful and called the hotel to find out they forgot to come and pick us up. The woman then put us in their SATSCO car service for only $10. What a difference to the hotel price of $35. Advice, take the airport SATSCO car service, don't book with the hotel. Our room was very comfortable & clean. We really enjoyed the breakfast. We ate Vietnamese food every morning and it was delicious. The breakfast staff was very friendly. When we come back to Ho Chi Minh City, we would definitely stay at this hotel. We just would not use their car service. We took a taxi back to the airport, no problems.

For the price I got, it was a great stay. I had a conference to attend at the Sheraton which is across Catina Hotel. Price difference? 55% the price of a room in Sheraton. I met someone who stayed at the Bong Sen next door to Catina, also very near to Sheraton. His room rate is very similar to Catina. But the rooms in Bong Sen were old. For Catina, the rooms were modern and new looking. The bathrooms in the deluxe rooms we had were with bathtub, and complete bathroom accessories like toothbrush, shavers, etc. The water closet also has a bidet. Strong aircon, and nice big LCD TV.The front desk personnel are quick to act, and it helps that the hotel is small, thus there is not much people that will compete for your time at the front desk. A great plus is that there website allowed Ryan, who handled my reservations, to chat with me via yahoo messenger. Thus all my questions were asked and in less than 30 minutes, my chosen room, my chosen dates, and my chosen rates were finalized.

The hotel only has 1 elevator, and it travels at a leisurely rate. But this easy accent/decent provides a smooth end to whichever floor your destination is. The breakfast is served at their cafe/restaurant located at the 1st floor, which would be the 2nd floor in other countries (above the ground floor). For the 6 nights/7days I stayed there, I noticed they change around 35-30% of the breakfast selection.

There is always a Vinasun taxi that waits right outside the hotel's main door, which is great. If no Vinasun taxi is in sight, there are a lot of taxis that use that road. OR you can cross the street and just 10 meters at the corner where Saigon Tourist taxis are parked across Sheraton Hotel. I noticed that each hotel has an official tie up with a certain taxi. Sheraton with Saigon Tourist, and Catina with Vinasun. The same I noticed when I went to Rex hotel, where they also use Saigon Tourist taxis for their guests. Oh well, Vinasun is reputable here in TA, so great for Catina to have Vinasun outside their doorsteps.

The only thing that bothered me is that they provided sofa seats and a table in each floor, where people will smoke. But this place is still indoors. Although the glass beside these seats can turn and provide ventilation, it is not the typical window and if you are not conscious about it, you will think it is a fixed glass panel. Because there is no exhaust system, the cigarette smell emanates through the whole floor (which is a small floor for around 10 rooms). The hotel should either make it a no smoking zone (they provided an ash tray on the table, which meant they allowed smoking), or allow smoking but put a sign to open the window to allow some form of ventilation. If not for this, I would have given this hotel a 5 star rating.

As far as I know the Catina Hotel is owned locally, but they can compete with the international luxury hotel chains. A spacious room with King size bed, a excellent air-conditioning (38 Celcius outside!), a spotless bathroom with ample towels and lots of warm water; the Wi-Fi worked on the Android smartphone as well as the netbook. Generally the room was an oasis in Ho-Chi-Minh City. The buffet breakfast was excellent en the service of the front desk, the concierge and the staff in the restaurant was impeccable. I have to think hard to write down some points that could be better: Two insignificant things, Firstly there is only one elevator with limited capacity. Secondly, the hotel plays piped music in the corridors. Sometimes it is so loud that the music penetrates the room. But if you are bothered with it, you can phone to reception and the volume will be reduced instantly. So no problem. This hotel is to be recommended highly.

I have stayed in the Catina hotel three times (once with my husband, the other two with best friends) because I love Saigon and I love this hotel. For all those with hyper-critical reviews, this hotel costs USD 70 to 90/night. I mean, really. The Sheraton is right across the street if you want feather beds and personal butlers. I felt that the Catina always always went over and above what was expected. The rooms I stayed in were always impeccably clean, the bed comfortable, and the staff always friendly and helpful. The location of this hotel is superb - as I mentioned, 5-star Sheraton and the classic Caravelle are Catina's neighbors. Dong Khoi St. is charming, clean and tree-lined and seems a world away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of Saigon. You can purchase good quality linens, art and lacquerware here. One street over is Hai Ba Trung where you can find dozens of superb restaurants (8 recommendations from the LUXE Ho Chi Minch City Guide are all on that street). You can't leave Vietnam without trying Hoa Tuc on Hai Ba Trung - modern Vietnamese cuisine in a former opium refinery.

Saigon itself can be quite hot, dusty and polluted but I always had fun exploring the streets, restaurants and shopping. Though Ben Tanh Market is on everyone's must-do list, this is the only place I hated. It's packed with tatty souvenirs (mostly bad quality) and this is one of the few places where the people were quite rude - perhaps spoiled by tourists. I only visit the market to stock up on Vietnamese coffee (which I think is the best). Anyway, after a day out, it was always a pleasure to come home to our well airconditioned, clean and comfortable hotel. I will definitely be back and will stay here again.

The people at this hotel could not have been more helpful, they were a wonderful introduction to the country and people. Everyone we dealt with spoke good English, they were attentive and very keen to ensure that we had a good holiday. The room was thoroughly cleaned every day and the bedsheets were so beautiful to sleep on that we tried to buy some to bring home. The location was excellent - right in the heart of District 1 and just a short walk to the river for our trip to the Delta. There was wifi in the room and also a guest computer in the lobby. Can't recommend them highly enough.

I stayed at this hotel at the recommendation of a friend who had stayed here previously. The hotel location is really great and a perfect home base for sightseeing in Ho Chi Minh City. The room itself was quite spacious, including individual controls for the air conditioning unit in the room. Free wi-fi and breakfast were included in our room rate. The hotel staff was very friendly and was very diligent about keeping the room clean.

The breakfast was actually quite substantial, including many options typical in an asian hotel (fresh fruit, fried rice and stewed vegetables). In addition, each guest was allowed one free main course breakfast option. There was a tiny sign about main course options and the food options displayed on a tray when you walk into the dining room. You had to order this option though. When we stayed you could choose between an omelet, a waffle, or pho. We tried all three during our stay and each were good.

I would recommend that travelers arrange an airport pick-up through the hotel. I have a friend who lives in Ho Chi Minh City and she warned me that it can be difficult to find reputable taxis at the airport. I emailed the Catina hotel in advance and they were happy to arrange an airport pick-up for $30 one-way. This is pretty expensive, I realize, but it was worth it to me to preserve peace of mind. I hate the hassle of worrying that the taxi driver is taking me on the scenic route to maximize the fare.

Having reserved a room at the Catina and paid in full (in August) for a stay in November I arrived late in the evening and was told there was no record of my booking and that the hotel was full. I could see my name on a list while peering over the desk so my suspicion is that the hotel was over-sold, my room was given away and they were lying to me.

After much stress trying to deal with the reception staff (in their poor English) and the travel agent in Australia a room was found for me for one night (the Catina staff tried to charge me extra for the room which I refused to pay) but no room was available (although I still doubt this) for the second night and the hotel agent had to find me a different hotel. This caused much inconvenience for me in having to move hotels after 1 night.

While the room I stayed in for one night at the Catina was acceptable (apart from a leaking shower, temperamental taps and a faulty safe) I found the staff generally to be quite rude and the breakfast offered was quite pitiful given what is normally provided at equivalent standard hotels.

I would not recommend this hotel or support a business which is clearly so dishonest and disorganised. There are plenty of other hotels in the Dong Khoi area that are better than this.

The hotel was much nicer than expected and the location was very central. If u like designer items louis vuitton is a few blocks away and the rex arcade (which is about 10minutes walk or 5 minutes drive away) stocks chanel, salvatore ferragamo, burberry, gucci, cartier etc. There is a convenience store across the road opposite the sheraton which is only a short walk away though the mini bar and room service is reasonably priced. Always check the bill before you sign for it as they overcharged for my room service. Beware of staff offering to go to purchase food etc from external sources for you as they will overcharge you more than what the delivery driver would have charged. Keep this in mind when thinking about tipping the staff. There is a spa three doors down named armani spa which does great aromatherapy oil massage. Pho 24 is a beef noodle chain and is located on the same street as the hotel and was one of the best pho's we had on the trip and it was very clean as opposed to many restaurants around the area. Pho2000 is near the ben thanh market and was made popular as bill clinton visited the restaurant in 2000. There is also and there is also another pho24 next to it as well. At night there are stalls along that street between pho 2000 and ben thanh market for those who enjoy night markets as ben thanh market is closed at night. The toilets in ben thanh markets are disgusting so avoid going unless you really have to or go to a clean restaurant instead. Be aware of fake taxis in ho chi minh, usually their meter is fake and the fare will increase very quickly. The fake taxis will not have a radio in them but externally will look very similar. You can google trustworthy taxi companies to help you identify if they are real. A short trip within district 1 should only cost about 1-2 usd so it is a great option on a hot day. You may see some reviews about lucky plaza which is nearby, stocking zara and mng outlet items, i would not trust that the stock is genuine and the styles are very old, it is like an indoor market.

I used to be based in HCMC so I know the place pretty well. However, it's a huge mistake that I decided to go local this time. Never ever again. I chose Catina Hotel due to it's location. From the reception, restaurant service to room, everything sucks big time. Extremely rude and poor attitude. Never gotten worst service than here.

The hotel website tells you which rooms have a real window. Premium deluxe room has a real opening window. We had the street view. Executive suite and Catina suite have balconies. Rooms have a safe deposit box. There is no pool in this hotel. For availability you need to contact the hotel. We liked this hotel very much.
