This well sized boutique hotel in Saigon District 1 is perfectly and centrally located for local and tourist Vietnamese life. Only 30 or so minutes from SGN airport. Traffic here is crazy, but once you get used to the technique of crossing a road etc, you’ll see that the majority of riders and drivers are both safe, slow and skilful! This hotel is surrounded by local and western bars and restaurants, a 15 minute walk to the main, crazy and live music walking street at Bui Vien and a 10 minute walk to the impressive post office and opera house.

The hotel lobby was amazing. Chic, well presented and smelt amazing. Staff on hand to assist with bags up the lobby stairs, and check in staff so friendly and helpful. Up to the Bonard Junior Suite on the 4th floor, ample size and plenty of storage. Really quite nice. The rainfall shower is located on the balcony, masked by green foliage, secluded and invigorating, the bath inside the room, large and well presented.

Afternoon tea on the indoor rooftop lounge was included in our room rate, we visited once on our last full day, 1430-1630 opening times, with a fantastic selection of cakes, sandwiches, coffee, tea etc. all kept restocked and a really good choice. A really nice addition for hotel guests. The bar also serves here all day and evening, I was disappointed that the bar did not sell any diet/light soda drinks at all, making coffee or water the only choice for diabetics.

Rainy season was indeed rainy for the full 5 nights stay, but the look of the pool and sun deck would be very inviting during the sunny months. Another good feature for this hotel.

Breakfast is held on the ground floor 0630-1000 and provides lots of choice and basic options. You are also able to order local foods and omelettes and eggs from the live cooking station. I really enjoyed the omelettes here.

This is a true local and unique hotel, well apart from a big chain, beautiful lobby and amazing friendly staff. Well worth a short stay here when visiting Saigon and Ho Chi Minh City. BeLu SEP24.

Au Lac Charner hotel is a gem of a find right in the heart of bustling Saigon. This French colonial hotel has beautiful decor and has maintained its traditional feel. It is elegant with its understated colours and is bright.

There is some quirkiness too. Our room has a Jaccuzzi-style bath in the bedroom and the shower is on the open-air balcony. Happily there are blinds to block prying eyes or 'the missus' would have had kittens.

The hotel is clean and we loved that they offered free afternoon tea every day. It was always welcome to refresh us from the intense heat of the city.

What makes Au Lac Charner stand out is its people. The staff are smiling, helpful, informative and willing. The star of the show, however, was Robert who checked us in at reception and whom we saw in several supervisory roles throughout our four-day stay. He always remembered our names, joked with us and was a mine of information. He guided us on places to eat, where to buy Vietnamese gifts (not tacky souvenirs) and helped us when we needed transportation.

This is my sixth time to stay in hotels in Ho Chi Minh City and whilst they have all been good, it is Au Lac Charner which stands out as the best. We will be back, of that I am certain.

This is our first time to Ho Chi Minh City and Au Lac Charner hotel has given us their very best service. Friendly and supportive staffs, clean bedroom, the bedroom comes with traditional design but contemporary furnitures very comfortable staying here. Furthermore they gave me birthday surprise during complimentary tea break at the rooftop cafe. We really appreciate that. Thanks a lot and hope to see again 💕

Au Lac Charner is my goto when I stay in Ho Chi Minh, it just seems to tick all the right boxes, especially its location in District 1.

The hotel's staff always provide you with a warm welcome and are always very helpful. The hotel has several room options to choose from. During my most recenty stay, I was happily suprised to be put up in a brand new room. The hotel has created an additional wing which houses the new rooms, and they all have new furniture, bedding, fixtures and fittings etc hence are very comfortable, allbeit somewhat smaller than previous rooms.

The bathrooms were well appointed with good water pressure in the shower , and there is a rooftop infinity swimming pool and also a restuarant and bar.

As mentioned, the hotel is in an excellent location, and is literally a hop, skip, and a jump to the Saigon skydeck. The buffett breakfast is excellent, with both Asian and Western dishes available and a live cooking station for eggs and soup.

The only drawback I have found on occasions is the A/C sometimes struggles, but that is pretty much it and I would not hesitate to stay again at the Au Lac Charner.

Perfect time at this hotel. The location is right at the heart of the District 1, near one of the main boulevards with shops and coffees nearby, and main attractions such as the opera or sky deck tower. Hotel is very relaxing, family room was very spacious and clean. It wasn’t noisy. It was peaceful overall. Breakfast is served from 6-10am and offers a good range of food, international and Vietnamese dishes. We were also offered a complimentary afternoon tea. The gym is small but it’s decent to do quick workouts. There’s a rooftop pool with a nice view, sauna and steam room. There are two bathrooms that travellers can use after checking out if leaving later in the day. We had a lovely time and wish we could have stayed longer! All the staff was welcoming, smiling and efficient.

Quaint little hotel equipped with the typical hotel amenities and facilities that the big branded hotels have. They managed to squeeze in all the facilities eg. swimming pool, gym, sauna, etc in the limited space which goes to show the attention to details.
Location wise, it's located at the side alley with local eateries, bars and cafes. There is even a local wet market at the street behind the hotel. So, if you're into doing local stuff, it's the place for you.
The rooms are of the right size although the bathroom may be a bit small and the interior of the bathroom may need more work as showering in the bathtub will generally cause a mess with water spilling all over the floor even with shower curtains. And remember to check that the shower curtains are there! Our friend's room didn't come with shower curtain until we compared notes with each other. The TVs in the rooms also tend to be more problematic (based on my experiences in 2 separate rooms) but the plus point is they provided free Netflix.
The breakfast spread was decent although not the best. Pay special attention to the egg station as they don't seem competent in cooking the omelette. The porridge tend to be a bit too salty. So, don't add any savoury condiments to it or risk wasting the porridge. The coffee selection only has Vietnamese coffee. So, if you are someone who must have your latte, expresso, americano, etc, be prepared to pay extras for it. The juices were quite diluted and don't taste like juices but more like made from diluting syrup.
Value wise, it may not be the best as it is priced at the same or higher level than other big branded hotels. But if you're looking for a different experience, you may consider this.

We are. group of 5 (parents in heir 70s; daughter and husband and grand daughter). We booked two semi -suite . The first room given to the older parents on Day 01 had a bath with a folding shower head right in the bedroom. A health risk yo which they responded and changed the room right away. Our rooms had all the amenities of a 5 star hotel. They were tidied up twice a day; sheets , pillow cases and towels are changed daily. Breakfast buffet is substantial but can be improved ; with more variety of fruits and cereals. But we give the staff service inc those in the spa /massage 5 star for excellent service. Location is also very central . Downsides: no handrail in their steep front stairs to enter the hotel lobby/ reception. No rubber mat and handrails in the shower. Highly recommended.

Our experience at Au Lac Charner was a mix of positive and negative aspects that have influenced our overall impression of the hotel. As we aim to provide an honest and comprehensive review, we'd like to highlight both the strengths and areas for improvement.

Firstly, the hotel staff at Au Lac Charner deserves praise for their friendly demeanor and attentiveness. They were quick to respond to our requests and ensured that we felt welcomed during our stay. The presence of a well-maintained pool added a pleasant touch to our relaxation moments.

In terms of the breakfast offered, while it was decent, we did notice that the variety could be expanded, especially considering the price point of the accommodations. The confined space for breakfast led to a slightly crowded atmosphere during busier times.

Although we generally avoid dwelling on minor inconveniences, we believe it's important to address certain issues when considering the cost of the room. The hotel's overall decor felt a bit outdated, which was a surprising contrast after receiving an upgrade. Additionally, the room we were allocated carried an unexpected odor that detracted from our comfort. The presence of a persistent rooster's crow added an element of unexpected noise.

The hotel lobby certainly radiated elegance, but regrettably, this sophistication did not extend consistently to the rooms. This discrepancy became particularly apparent when comparing the room photographs to our actual experience.

After considering both the positive and negative aspects, we believe a rating of 3/5 is a fair representation. The friendly staff and well-maintained pool were definite highlights. However, it's essential to point out areas for improvement, particularly in relation to the room's condition, the odor issue, and the unexpected noise. Our intention is not to overly emphasize these issues, but rather to provide an honest assessment that takes into account the price you pay for the room.

Staff are always friendly and helpful. They are very accomodating. The rooms are kept clean and the bed is very comfortable.

The swimming pool and spa facilities are great with a spectacular view for any one that wants to relax and look out for a city view.

It is located in district 1 but on a side that is not overly busy or noisy. It is located in a central location, the shopping centre and a variety of different restaurants are a short walk away.

Would recommend.

We had an amazing stay here. The staff are all super friendly and have a smile for you. They make sure your experience is well hosted, from a refreshing welcome drink and towel provided at check in to their offers to help with baggage and book taxis. The amenities include a steam room and sauna and an air conditioned gym with enough space for 2-3 to work out. The pool isn’t so large but we always found a seat on the deck. We really loved the on site spa and had a wonderful shampoo/massage and food soak. The breakfast was so impressive with sweet and savory options and the afternoon tea was nice for a break. The bed was comfortable and large enough for two comfortably, and the bathroom was private with needed toiletries provided. The mini fridge in room offered well priced refreshments. The location is perfect. You’re on a busy vibrant street but we didn’t hear much noise in the room even on the third floor. Walk to all major sites within 5 minutes including Saigon Skydeck, Opera House and Ben Tranh market. We absolutely recommend!
