Great location. Close to Japan town and city landmarks.
The hotel is a bit old but clean. Feeling welcomed by the staff.
I was on the 5th floor and the street noise was not bad at all by local standards.
Good value for money if you are not looking for super high standards.

We were in Ho Chi Minh in June for a short shopping trip.
Stayed at Sophia Hotel because they offered rooms for 3 persons sharing.
Emailed the hotel and they were very prompt in their reply and offered a discounted rate of $65USD per family room (triple share), tax included.

We had 2 family rooms for our family of 6.
This hotel has only one family room type per floor so our party of 6 had to be put on different floors, rooms 706 and 806 respectively.
Room 806 had the better view with the window stretching over half the wall behind the beds. Room 706 only had a small panel of window. Both windows can be unlock and open for fresh air.
Rooms layout exactly the same.
One double bed and one single bed.(not a rollaway)
We did find the mattress very firm though and the beds squeaks every time we get in and out of it.
Good sized wardrobe and dressing table with a little round table and 2 small armchairs.
Small jug to boil water, instant coffee satchels and tea provided but only provided 2 sets of cups and saucers even though we had 3 persons sharing the room. You can get an extra set from the breakfast room in the lobby though. We didn't need it so we didn't bother but my auntie did borrow a plate and knife to cut some dragonfruits she bought from the supermarket.
Good sized, clean toilets with a bathtub, toilet bowl and sink.
But I had an issue with the bathtub. The bathtub isn't sealed to the wall and everytime we showered, the water would flow between the gap and underneath the tub and wet the toilet floor. Had to ask for extra floor mats to mop up the water. Not a very good design!

You are issued with one set of keys when checking in and this key has to be slotted in the slot on the wall for the aircon, TV and room lights to work.
Aircon takes about 10-15mins to cool the room once activated but does its job well.
Like most hotels in this class, floors are not carpetted, all tiled and I've seen the chambermaid on her hands and knees cleaning the floor in the tiled floor in the room and corridors with a damp cloth. No wonder the floor is always so shiny and clean.

For security, you are expected to leave the keys with the reception when you go out for the day. The room doors are also equipped with an alarm which will ring if the door isn't shut tight.

Internet is free in the room if you have your own laptop and there are also three computer terminals in the lobby just off the breakfast area for guests usage. Internet quite a good speed normally but there are times when I experienced slowdown, maybe because more people using the computers.

Breakfasts consists of mainly Asian Fare.
They had toasts, jams and choices of spreads, sausages and ham, fresh fruits and fruit juices, coffee, tea and yoghurt catering to the Western diet.
We were more than pleased with the choices of beef or chicken pho, instant noodles, fried rice or noodles, fried spring rolls and some other Vietnamese breakfast items. Breakfasts is included with your room stay.

Location of hotel not too bad. Situated on a street with a lot of restaurants. I rememberd passing a pizza joint, some Japanese and Korean restaurants and there is a very good Mediterranean restaurant, Skewers not far from the hotel.
Also some bars on the same street so when you walk on the streets at night, you see a lot of 'working ladies' and their clients. We didn't feel unsafe though.
About 10mins walk to Dong Khoi and maybe 15mins to 20mins to Ben Thrang Market but we didn't bother. Took a taxi most of the time, just make sure the meter is on and most of the time, only cost about USD$1 to get from Dong Khoi area to the hotel.

There is a Vinasun taxi stand just outside the hotel and they will call a cab for you, always arrive in under 2mins. No problems getting cabs to Saigon Center, Dong Khoi, District 3 for food and Airport for our flight back. No rigged meter or problems with driver going a big round to get more fare.

Very good, friendly staff. Reception recognised us by the 2nd day and always had our keys ready for us when we step into the lobby. Concierge literally run to relieve us of our shopping bags the moment we alight from the cab. Doorman on duty 24hours. I don't think think this hotel allows you to bring in guests into the rooms. There is a sign by the elevator that all guests are to be recieved in the lobby. I feel safer staying there with my family.

Good, clean, basic family friendly hotel. Very affordable too! Would recommend.

i was suppose to be in another hotel but i was relocated there without too much explanation, it happens often in Viet Nam as they overbook their hotels. This hotel is well situated in the district one where the main action is and easy to walking distance. the staff are polite no more, their english is somewhat limited. The hotel doorman are indifferent and not to much clientele oriented. Unfortunately for an unknown reason they refuse to one of my vietnamese friend to contact me or to let him inside the hotel, i tried to get an explanation, all they did was smiling and said nothing? The room was clean, quite,no shower but a big jaccuzi bath where you have to stand and try to shower with the telephone shower...overall for 1 or 2 days it was fine but if you are looking for longer stay i am sure you can find something way better.

I enjoyed my stay here during my visit to hcm earlier this year... The rooms are big, bathrooms are well maintained and staff is friendly. There was initially a problem with the Wifi, however it was later addressed
Since i am a vegetarian, i did not enjoy the breakfast buffet much. I suggest that the hotel adds more vegetarian options to the breakfast

I have stayed at this hotel 4 times now and I have decided not to return.
The reason I went back was overall they are not too bad but after staying in some other hotels in vietnam I realise they are way overpriced for what they provide.
Breakfast is included with all rooms and it has always been bland and boring. Their pho is the worst I have had. Even in Australia it is better. The coffee is cold, all the pre cooked food is left out on plates to go cold and some of it is served cold. They wait until you leave to clear the dishes from your table. The bread was stale, juice is not real ......the list goes on. It's the worst food I have had in vietnam.
The rooms are always clean and ac works after a being on for a while. On two occasions I found myself choking on cigarette smoke in my room while sleeping. Somehow smoke was coming into my room so bad that my eyes were stinging. The only escape was to put my head under the blanket. It was room 303 the second time. Both times I complained and all I got was a blank look and promise to get it looked at. Every visit I have been asked if I want female company, ie a prostitute to come to my room. This is not something that I would want but I suppose if it was it may be convenient. I find it very unprofessional to offer this service and some May take offence. I have been charged from USD$ 40 - 46 for the room for one night and in my opinion that's way too much for the service they provide. There are cheaper options closer to the centre of town worth checking out.

We expected a high standard after experiencing another good hotel in HCMC earlier in our trip but considering what we paid this was a disappointing hotel. The room was very small and the both the room and bathroom need updating. The worst thing was that there was only a tiny window which you couldn't see out of or even raise the blinds.

Breakfast was revolting - I wouldn't recommend eating it as my boyfriend got food poisoning shortly after eating it.

Avoid this hotel, you'll find much better bargains! Try the Cap Town hotel instead!

I stayed here for 1 night as I had an overnight connection in HCMC. The week earlier I'd stayed in a much more expensive hotel with crappier service. This place was good. The front desk staff didn't speak perfect english, but certainly enough to communicate. The location is good, close to shopping & post office/cathedral. It's a bit far from the backpacker district though. I would stay here again.

Our family (2 Adults and 2 Children age 3 and 7) stayed in a family room at this hotel from 2nd -5th August 2010. The location was excellent, in that it was in reasonable walking distance to some of the major sites and museums in HCMC. The road is also just off a main drag which affords it "some" soundproofing from the incessant moped horns. They managed to squeeze a double and two single beds into our family room, which didn't leave a lot of floor space but it meant no bed sharing, which was nice. Bathroom was clean, if a little dated. Breakfast basic, but a decent start to a day's sightseeing. Beware pictoral representations that show the hotel standing on its own. There are buildings either side, which mean no natural light comes in the windows. Staff were helpful with info and directions. Free Internet terminals in reception/breakfast room and a nice touch was that the staff brought you a glass of water while you were surfing. Bearing in mind the low price, it is definitely worth the money. Remember you get what you pay for.
