Me and my cousin stayed at Little Hanoi Hostel 2 for 3 nights. Only 2 minute-walk away from Hoan Kiem Lake yet it's so tranquil. Mr.Toan and others were so welcoming and they let us checked in early! Unlimited supply of fruits, tea and coffee...More

This is more like a b&b there isn't a common room or kitchen for guests so bumping into other guests is rare. You will met people on the tours to halong bay or sapa. The hanoi hostel will organise those for you and they are better value than the ones on the street. The larger hostels would offer a better chance of being people but they seemed to be party hostels so prepare for noise and drunkenness;)
