The girls working there speak great English and make you feel very welcome. They gave us great travel advice and were very helpful. We also really loved the food and alcohol! The puppy and cats were so cute.

We had an amazing stay at Ruby Halong Homestay. It's really cheap to spend a couple of nights, and it's localisation is perfect if you want to see real Vietnam and take distance with the busy life of the big cities, the klaxons, the stress... At the end of the road you can find a kind of private Halong bay... Amaaaazing 😍 and the cherry on the cake, an amazing host speaking perfect English knowing all the secrets of the place, really friendly, helpful, perfect cook and even... Captain! Yes you can also have a boat trip in halong Bay but not with all the tourists around, amazing isn't it? Free wifi and pool. Anyway at this point you probably understood that I really really recommend this place to have an authentic experience and a wonderful time in Halong bay!

This must be the worst hostel we have ever been to. The good rating must be a joke. It was supernasty; the bathroom was grose, the sheets were dirty (hair and dirt) and everything was just not what we expected AT ALL. The beeds were so hard and uncomfortable and there was no aircondition. The location is far away from everything, it’s basically out in the woods.
So we do not recommend this hostel at all, and hope people stay away. We were supposed to stay there for four nights, but left after one. Please do not let the rating trick you!!!

Yes, it is possible to avoid the crowds in Ha Long Bay! This basic but great homestay offers good value for money accommodation. It also organizes a trip on a fishermen boat in a quiet part of the bay, you will not see any tourist boats. The food is delicious, and every evening you have dinner with all the other guests - great to meet other adventurous people. Our kids loved the place as well, it was one big platground for them! Our host took great care of us - she is funny, service oriented, a great cook and a fluent english speaker! Thanks for a great stay!

We were cycling from Ha Giang to Halong Bay the last 14days as we came to Ruby Homestay. We found it on our OSMAND Navigation App and saw that it was on our route to Cat Ba but still situated far from the Halong City Area, which was totally a plus since we like it calm and peaceful.
We actually wanted to stay for one night only, before heading on to Cat Ba. But we found that -as expected -very calm place to be unexpectedly beautiful, authentic and full of opportunities! We got a Kayak here and could explore half of Halong Bay, fishing boats, crab farms, mangroves, beaches and a lot more.
There were kittens on the hotel area, a swimming pool as well as a pool table and a beautiful bar / restaurant terrace. But the best thing was to meet Miss Ha here! :) she is the caring, charming and joking heart of Ruby's Homestay and provided us with the best food, kayaks, motorcycles as well as tips and orientation :)
We are really grateful to get to know her and the place and we had a wonderful time together!
Total recommendation! We will come back on our next cycling trip around the world ;)

At the first I didn’t give much to the place. I arrived late in the night and in the next morning I wasn’t sure I would stay there more than the 3 nights I had already booked.
However the welcoming and friendly staff (her name is Ha, not sure about the spelling though) made me chance my mind and I spent my whole stay in the area at Ruby.
Ha went out of her way to make me and other 4 guests have a great Vietnamese experience. Btw she runs the place pretty much by herself.
Taking us on a boat ride, fishing trip (the fish didn’t help though, we caught none:) and the caves near by.
In the evening she cooked us a great and traditional meal.
The area isn’t your typical tourist place, It’s bit away from the main spots but if you want to see how the locals live their lives, their work on the fields, a really authentic fresh food market, Ruby Ha Long is a great place to stay.
Thank you very much Ha.

Positives
- the staff are friendly and helpful
- the location is very peaceful
- WiFi works okay

Negatives
- the mattresses are as hard as concrete so it was close to impossible to sleep
- the shower was freezing
- rooms didn’t feel particularly clean
- the hostel isn’t near anything so you have to get the taxi everywhere

Wouldn’t recommend coming here in honesty , but the staff are lovely so that’s the only reason it got 3 stars

If you want to hide from the hustle and bustle of the concrete jungle, and want to inhale some fresh air and feel the country side scenery.

They also have a #bigcompound for your friends, kids and family to chill.

Comfortable beds and nice toilets. 😘

Value for money! 👌🎉👍☺️
