This hotel is more a decoration than a hotel. At first glance you're fascinated. A real old fashioned luxury style hotel with a lovely staff. The rooms are nice, the bathroom is spacious, everything looks so fine. As soon as you are in bed you realize, the beds are also old fashioned. No mattress nowadaws should be so uncomfortable. The whole night you're feel like fighting against falling out of bed. The staff of the hotel is friendly, really friendly but - unfortunately to say - completely incompetent. It's pitiful. It started with a booked airport shuttle service. We confirmed their offer and waited...and waited. Finally we took a taxi (which was in fact cheaper than the offered shuttle by the hotel). Arriving at the hotel we told them, we waited for the shuttle but it did not come and they were so sorry, so sorry, so sorry. They were really nice but it seems they are always overstrained. The forgotten airport shuttle is only an example for all the disability. Speaking English is a real challenge and to understand English is a barrier most of the staff can't overcome. To order something, for instance a beer on the terrace, is a challenge and finally to get the brand you want, simply luck. The breakfast wants to be noble, the quality is poor. That butter should be fresh and not a bit rancid should be self-evident. After a while you realise that complaining makes no sense because they do not understand. At check out we told the staff the fridge (mini bar) did not work properly. He smiled and had it forgotten in the same moment. The hotel calls itself a 5 star hotel, whatever that means from their point of view. The wonderful vintage Citroën in front of the hotel, which you can see on every photo is a good example for the hotel. From the distance it looks great. Coming closer you realise, this poor car is not maintained as is should be. It's a gem but nobody takes care of it. We only can say - do not waste money staying in this hotel. It is an illusion but the reality is a poor one.

This hotel had been recommended in several blogs that I researched so we booked it through Luxury Escapes. My thoughts about it are mixed. On the plus side it is an outstanding example of the heritage of this beautiful city and despite an extensive renovation in the 1990s remains true to its origins. It has exquisite decor throughout and show stopping gardens which sweep down to the lake. But on the minus side a lack of English is a problem . I am not elitist about this but in certain situations it is important , especially in a hotel of this calibre which purports to cater to English speaking guests. Maintenance seems to be a bit of an issue , with doors not opening and closing properly . Some of the bathroom fittings though charming are not up to standard - for example the grab rail for the bath fell apart when I touched it which could have resulted in serious injury . We reported it to the staff not as a complaint but in the interest of health and safety. They were very apologetic and offered us an upgrade but I wonder if they really understood the potential risks. The restaurant standard is not of the quality I was expecting especially as it is very expensive . On a couple of occasions we did not get what we had ordered - again I think as a result of a lack of understanding by the wait staff. And importantly for older people there are no guest elevators . We were offered the service elevator which we used a few times . On balance I would recommend staying for a couple of nights to soak up the ambience and the luxury. Don’t expect great food though .

The grand lobby entrance matches the imposing structure from the 1930’s. The staff were very attentive when we checked in yesterday. Our room on the first floor was terrible! Small and poky and awful bathroom. No good! I went to the reception and voiced my complaint to the front of house manager, a lovely, accommodating young lady. She was very apologetic and asked us to have a look at another room on the same floor. AMAZING! Probably 4 times the size of our first room. Really grand and a lovely, large bathroom. Thank you! We’ve read plenty of bad reviews of this Hotel and judging by our first room I can understand those reviews. The management, however, turned things around right away and made our stay memorable. If your not happy, just talk to them!

We first stayed in what was this magnificent hotel in 1997 and were excited to return. We were confronted with a shower that floods the whole room (one of our friends fell over because of the water and cracked her head!) and the water does not drain and the suggestion was to tie the shower curtain to the wall to ease flooding. Additionally we booked a 3 million Dong tour with an English speaking guide who couldn't take us to all of the requested places, and incidentally does not speak English.

Dalat Palace really is a special heritage property. It was built by French Colonials in 1922 as one of the grand opulent European-style hotels of Southeast Asia. The history is palpable as you step through the threshold and transport yourself back through time. Management has tried to preserve the grandeur with some success. It still retains vestiges of its high style -- the service, the dining rooms, high tea -- are excellent and reminiscent of what I imagine existed 100 years ago. The suite we stayed in was comfortable and well-furnished if a bit gaudy (although it fit somehow). Beds and bedding very comfortable. The gardens and lake view are magnificent. However, decay and the heavy hand of state management are evident here and there. Stairway carpeting is worn and a bit dirty. The walls of the entry foyer are plastered with ugly photographs of government dignitaries. The building facade needs cleaning and re-painting. Behind the annex of the hotel is unkempt. Overall though, we quite enjoyed our stay. Front desk, housekeeping and restaurant staff exceptionally attentive and polite.

Charming and quaint and a different hotel to the usual chain hotels but we really loved the character and history within this gorgeous hotel . The service is excellent and breakfast was an elegant and charming experience with much variety to suit all different tastes. It feels like stepping back in time into a grand time of class and glamour of days gone by, staying here is a lovely experience in itself and like most charming and historical places you need to be prepared for a few things such as shower over the bath and water splashing into floor and some noise from the street and corridors but it’s worth it to experience the charm of staying here! We really loved the little personal touch in this hotel such as an evening sweet hand delivered to your room with a note and the welcome go plates also a lovely touch We loved our time here, there is a shopping centre/supermarket only a 5-10 min walk by the lake . I see some negative reviews on here but wanted to give a positive review as we really enjoyed our stay in this charming hotel where you literally step back in time !

One of these hotels in south east asia with colonial style and french influence. Now locally managed but with so much potential. Sad to see the vintage car abandoned in front of the hotel with flat tyre and grass growing under but the restaurant still provide high fine dining service experience.

Nice hotel- very interesting history and resulting character- it feels almost stuck in an era. The accommodations are good and the bed was particularly comfortable. There is noise from the street which to me is the one major drawback. Otherwise good!

We visited our old haunt Dalat Palace during Xmas 2021, and found a surprise. The hotel has remained unchanged, however the Rabelais Restaurant has continued to improve, both in presentations and in foods. Congrats to Master Chef Khoa and F&B Manager Cong. Our surprise was to see a mainly Vietnamese clientele in a fine dining experience in Dalat. The views from Rabelais are superb and unique in Vietnam. We are pleased to witness growing appreciations, and will surely return.

If ever there was a bigger lie in town, the self-awarded 5* to this Hotel is probably it. You can have everything here in this Hotel of Horrors to make your stay a truly memorable nightmare. Screaming kids, banging doors, loud footsteps of running kids on floor boards, loud talking adults, incessant traffic noise, public announcement throughout the day, trucks hooting in the middle of the night, motorbike noise, cars blowing their horns, lawn mower noise under your window at 6:00AM. To top it off, there is the constant screaming from Emergency vehicle sirens 24 hours al day, all night. I have been known to slumber just about anywhere, but this noise in this hotel had me totally sleep defeated and deprived. And yet this is the most expensive hotel in Da Lat. Rooms are cold and draughty, windows are not sealed against the elements and are badly in need of a refresh, repair or replacement. The curtains cannot be totally drawn as the curtain rails are old and also require replacement. The decorative curtains over the beds (see photo) are also badly in need of replacement and are almost falling onto the bed occupant. To top it off, there is only 1 small window for each room, the room is dark and gloomy looking more like a solitary confinement cell in a prison block, not that of a 5* hotel room. Room service too, is severely lacking. They do not replace shampoos and other stuff that is finished. To add insult to injury, they didn't replace our bath towels today, and we had to use face towels to dry up. When we checked in 2 days ago, there were 2 bath towels, it dwindled to 1 yesterday and today there were NONE. The bed itself was uncomfortable, there was a depression in the middle of my mattress making it impossible to get into a comfortable sleeping position. Their plumbing system in the bathroom badly requires renewal, your shower water can go from medium warm to stone cold, and then to scalding hot in a matter of seconds if your neighbouring rooms are also showering. Dangerous if you have a young child using the shower. Plus there is a large window (see photo) over the bath tub, covered by a thin curtain that allows noise from the corridor to filter unabated into the bedroom. Breakfast buffet came as part of our room package, and food quality was merely mediocre. Sauces and food ran out, but often not replaced until quite a while later. There was often no supervision on the part of the staff. Young children were there to remove buns, croissants and bread with their bare hands and replace them at will. The same unhygienic practices with adult guests. I saw this morning a man who had covered his mouth when he sneezed, then picked up a couple of bread rolls with his bare hands instead of using the provided tongs. I complained to one of the staff, and the attitude was one of total indifference. Not good in these COVID times. As for the Internet access, it was virtually non existent. To put into perspective, this review was started at this Da Lat Palace Hotel, but completed elsewhere as I couldn't upload any photos. You get slow access for about 5 minutes, then no access for another 10-15 minutes and this was the afternoon when internet loads were supposedly low. In the evenings after 10:00PM, you could almost forget it. I couldn't access my usually websites at all last night. We also complained to the Management who were more worried about their bill being paid as opposed to the unhappiness of their Guests.
