This hotel has some real positives. The rooms are nice and the pool is fantastic. Food was also up to scratch and the free coffee during the day was a great touch. On the negative side, the staff on check in tried to put us in rooms we had not booked and said we would have to change on our second day. We did get the correct room in the end. My colleague complained that the room next door was playing music really loud . Rather than address the issue they suggested he move to a lower quality room. The WiFi in this hotel is dreadful. Three of us had constant issues and I saw numerous other guests complaining. Staff were also quite aggressive on check out. This could be a great hotel

We have stayed at the Royal Palace a few times and find everything is just what we wanted. It is right in the heart of all the wonderful shopping and the nightlife. We have found all the staff very pleasant and helpful. The rooms are cleaned every day and they are very comfotable. First class for us.

Please Stay in the Park!

So before you ask yourself, “can this hotel really be that bad?” Trust me, yes it can” following our minus 1 to zero customer service checkout experience, I wish I’d filmed it because it would have made a humouring hospitality training film in how not to do it, it kind of reminded me of a carry on film with Hatty Jacques.

So I would quite like to share how bad this hotel gets after being charged extra for a room card. Firstly our friends room was the immediate challenge as it smelt of smoke with a rather unpleasant combination of cats wee, mould and damp, he highly recommends you carry a Corona Virus mask with you to help ease your breathing.

I think we should shed a little light on a few technical issues you might need to expect then finally I’ll touch on the “exemplary” customer service.

When staying here i really have a secret tip that we picked up - “go out very early and stay-out as late as possible”. Sorry I was so crotchety at the checkout desk but after five late nights of sleeping on a bed that was like rock I think I was justified. Please If you are a member of the Flintstone Family then you’ll love this hotel and the beds are made of stone. I know, I know, on reflection I should have slept outside on the concrete pavement, it’s a bit more comfortable.

So here we go; the first day we checked in and low and behold the bathroom door decided to jam shut and lock. But don’t worry, it’s ok we only had to waste the afternoon waiting for the maintenance guy to replace it with a complete new one, which remarkably he had in stock (luckily). Top marks goes to the maintenance guy who I have to say was fantastic. Both him and the security guy at the lift were lovely? They would make a great duo to train the reception Gustapo in customer service. By the way apparently the door jamming locked was our fault. - 🙊 oops sorry about that.

And lastly, as a parting farewell treat our room flooded and for some reason after a long tiring night out, the manager was called after advising the reception team about it, they reminded me it was all ok, it was only the air conditioning and it was nothing to worry about. Look apart from these ‘minor’ hiccups it’s ok.

If there would have been a rating in which negative marking was allowed, then I would have given -10. I have never come across such a terrible hotel. Outside looks are very appealing and one falls for it. I saw the hotel on the networking and it looked good. But once inside, no courtesy, no service, very rude people on the counters.

just returned from the royal palace hotel. Room rate is 1200 bht a night but if you pay to be a member for 350bht you get the room for 880bht about 12 pound a night including breakfast. If you want a well kept and cleen room and all the international tv chanells including the movies its an absolute steel for £12. same hotel in bangkok would cost over £40 a night. I planed to stay 1 night and then move on but due to the fact of enjoying it that much i stayed 6 nights. to sum it up your in the heart of the action with no need to take taxis etc. Bed clothes ultra cllen and changed every day. The list goes on. Only down side breakfast is good but same same everyday. Dont waste your money stay there.

I had a great stray at the Royal Place. The staff was outstanding. The guards were friendly. The receptionists were great. They went out of their way to find a shop I was looking for, looking up a phone number for me while I was out even though I had not ask them to. The room was cleaned everyday with fresh towels and linen. The hotel itself is showing its age, but very clean. It was quit at night and I never heard the people next door at all. A small bug or two, but you are in Thailand after all. Never a problem with water, hot water all the time with great water pressure. I stayed in 804 overlooking the pool and the room was great. The curtains keep the room dark enough to sleep late after some very late nights. The location is outstanding, close to everything you need. Guest friendly and never felt judged by my chose of companion. The only complaint is the WIFI, not free, but I did not come all this way to play on the internet. This is the hotel I will be staying at every time I visit.

I have stayed at this hotel 5 times since 2004 , most resent ''July 2010'' ... I have to say that I was very disappointed this time. SOME of the reception staff at the hotel were very rude to say the least, also their English was very poor. When you book in you have to pay 1000BHT as a deposit for the mini bar, I do not have a problem with this but what I do have a problem with is the fact that they will NOT give you a refund if you lose YOUR copy of the receipt even though they have a copy and they know full well that you have paid !!!
Also, if you join their club to get a discount (cost for this 350BHT) you have to wait 2 days for your membership card, AGAIN DO NOT LOSE your receipt as they will not issue it !!! . I got the impression that SOME of the staff on the reception were on the fiddle, when I checked out they ask to see any receipts that I had for my room, they promptly put them in the bin !!!!!!!! . I told them that I needed the receipts as I was on a business trip and they tried to ignore this request, but I kept on and eventually got them back !!!

The pool area and the sun loungers could all do with a very very good clean. The 3 staff who run the pool area were the best and most friendly people that you could meet, nothing was too much trouble, it's a pity that the reception staff were not the same.

NOT SAFE ... Security Safe in reception .... When taking money from your money box you have to sign BEFORE THEY WILL OPEN it , just to make sure that you are the owner .... BUT THEY DON'T ... I was VERY alarmed at their lax approach to this as the only time that they get you to sign is AFTER YOU have emptied your box !!!!!!! . I complained about this LACK of SECURITY on several occasions only to be met with a giggle. I felt so strongly about this I reported it to the Tourist Police who were also concerned, other guests were also alarmed by the receptions lack of care. The Police paid a visit to the hotel the next day ... When I went to take money after this I was asked to sign first (Thank you to the Thai Police)

WOULD I STAY HERE AGAIN ..... Ummmm err,,, YES only because I know what it has been like in the past, I would also hope that the hotel owners/managers have changed/sacked their reception staff. BUT if things have not improved by my next visit (November 2010) I will NOT return again ... Sad as this was once a VERY VERY good hotel.

We walked in off the street more in hope, as we were staying in a place for 800 Baht a night where the water from the sink drained onto the floor, well actually all over your feet!

At Royal Palace, the staff were great. We spoke with a pretty girl called "Apple" (English translation of her name) and she told us of the discount if you become a member for only 350 Baht and you can use this to get a discount for two people in two rooms with breakfast at 880 Baht and 800 without.

The rooms are large and bright with good balaconies and ocean view from the front. Room service is fantastic and food is great and cheap also, same price for room service as in local cafes but better quality! They also have a relaxed policy over overnight room guests, whilst trying ensure the safety of their customers and their belongings. We stayed for total of 6 nights and well worth it.

One very minor gripe wuld be the condition of the pool, as it does not seem to be all that well maintained.

All in all for the price an absolute bargain
