Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We didn't stay at the hotel as we were living nearby short-term but I wanted to comment because we frequented the hotel 3-4 times a week for dinner. The staff at Thamna Hotel were always amazing and went above and beyond. Food was always so delicious, pad thai with egg was fantastic as well as the curries and fried rice. This was the best food in the area. Thank you to Joy and her wonderful staff.

The positives: the rooms, although dated are comfortable. The garden is huge and perfect for kids. The shuttle and the driver are great. The negatives are relating to the food, cleanliness of the seating area and kitchen leaves a lot to be desired. The food was terrible, breakfast food not covered and flies and mosquitos resting on it, cold canned kidney beans with tomato ketchup was served. Good coffee but that's about it. Staff are lovely and helpful. The hotel is quite a distance away from the old town and unless you have your own transport you will need a shuttle.

Such a relaxing and beautiful place, the food was great, and everything was better than we expected. The staff was very kind and accommodating, we couldn't be happier with our choice in picking this hotel. It's not easy traveling with young kids and babies, but this place was great. Next time I would request a room on the first floor as it was a lot of steps for my kiddos on the top floor.

We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel as the connected rooms was a very comfortable homestay for our family. The staff was extremely helpful in assisting us on any requests/questions we had, many thanks again! The pool and playground are great for the kids. Despite the distance to the center, the shuttle works out just fine and we enjoyed the quietness and comfort of the resort opposed to being in the center. Renting a car for a few days was a very good option and the staff was very helpful in arranging this. Very nice breakfast next to the peaceful garden and playground. Would definitely recommend to stay here!

My family stayed at this hotel during my wifes medical procedure in Chiang Mai. Because of the warm and personal treatment from the owners Palika and Pee Pet we had the best time and support. Although the hotel is located quite far from town we used the shuttle service to get to and from the hospital and since we have been in Chiang Mai on several occasions we knew our way around town and visited the sunday market, the park and botanical gardens. The small kitchen area and fridge where nice aswell to prepare kiddie meals etc The hotel has a huge grassy area and toys for kids like train tracks and bicycles etc. For us as parents this was great as we could sit outside and watch the kids play while having a drink or diner. Sure there might be good accommodation options closer to town but for us as a family it was the best. Palika took great care of us and since we will be coming back to Chiang Mai next year we will surely come back to this place!

This was the cheapest and consequently most basic hotel of the four we used on our trip, however it had a certain charm and Palika, the owner and manager, made all the difference for us. She gave us restaurant recommendations and arranged the most wonderful trip out to the mountains for us. The hotel is a long way (about 8km) from Chiang Mai but they made up for it by providing a free shuttle service which we made copious use of including to and from the airport. The rooms were large and had mini kitchen areas with fridge, microwave and kettle. The TVs were old with no western channels at all. There's a tiny balcony where I enjoyed a beer watching the sunset but the view is distinctly industrial including a highway and railway. There's a nice very large garden area out back, and breakfast could be taken on the veranda looking over it. The swimming pool description is interesting given it's a walk away fro the hotel for the use of the gated community in which the property sits with no sun loungers at all that we could see. We didn't use it once. We did enjoy a drink at the bar out front whilst waiting for our restaurant shuttle. They will do washing (but no ironing) for a very reasonable rate. Overall, in the end we warmed to it due to Palika's desire and ability to make our stay as best she could.

The hotel was cozy and clean, large playground for kids and there was a communal pool 3 minutes away. The hotel is around 8 km away from all the action but there is a shuttle available for free throughout the day that can transfer you around We had some minor issues with airport transfer and hot water but the owner reacted very fast to solve everything Overall I highly recommend thamna for families that want to stay away from the loud city center Overall experience was positive.

I recently stayed at the Thamna for 8 nights with my family. Overall, our experience was OK, but nothing more. The Thamna is located quite far from the center of Chiang Mai. It is located in a very quiet gated community to the southeast of the city. The Night Market area is about a 20 minute drive away. We chose the Thamna because some friends of ours live in the gated community that the hotel is located in. That is the only reason we chose the Thamna. The rooms are very outdated and many things in the room either didn't work or worked very poorly. Our room never had hot water. Most days it barely got luke-warm. The TV was very old and barely worked. The toilets had extremely low water-pressure and often could not flush. The internet was very unreliable. Overall, the rooms were very old. Considering we paid $95 USD/night for a triple room (with taxes), we were expecting A LOT more. There are countless 4 Star hotels in Chiang Mai, and some 5 Star hotels, that would be in the price range that we paid. The breakfast was quite basic and the dishes that were supposed to be hot were often very cold. I even went out early one morning for breakfast, just after 7, and all of the dishes were cold. A couple of the nights we were there the hotel was quite busy and staff had a very hard time keeping breakfast items stocked. The hotel is located in a gated community. The community has a large pool that is available for use by the hotel guests. The pool was very large and nice and had a great kids section. In addition, behind the hotel was a nice grassy field where kids can safely play. The hotel has a free shuttle that will take you just about anywhere you need to go in Chiang Mai. This was a great service to offer as the hotel is located in an inconvenient part of town. There are not even any restaurants nearby. But the free shuttle makes getting around very easy. The staff here were all very nice and friendly. It seems though that the owner, who is also the manager, is still trying to learn how to manage a hotel. We didn't have a great experience, but our time here could have been better. Also, for the price we paid, the value was quite poor.

My friends and I were so incredibly pleased with our stay at the Thamna. The cozy ambience and wonderful service as well as the incredible breakfasts and tasty Pakistani food for such reasonable prices were a huge hit. But what won us over was the service: the young owners arranged our day trips and drivers and tours so that everything went off without a hitch. They even boxed up our breakfast so we could eat on our way to elephant camp! And what captured our hearts were their two young children who made for the truly family-oriented atmosphere. Thank you The Thamna for a great stay!
