We stayed here for a short romantic getaway and we loved the design of the place. Everything is very beautiful. However, photos on both the hotel website as well as Agoda are very misleading and the "suite" we got looked nothing like what was on the website.

Not to say that it was bad, but it was definitely not as what we expected. That being said, the decor of the place was very nice, but they had promised a DVD player in the room and they were not able to deliver on their promise.

The location is also very far from any amenities and it is a good thing that we had our own transport to move about. There is an excellent Thai restaurant within walking distance, but other than that, there is no food anywhere nearby. What makes it worse is that the hotel only has a breakfast room. This means no ala-carte food and definitely no room service. In fact, I was quite upset that considering that it was a set breakfast, they would not even allow us to have it up in our room! So much for being romantic.

Our room was spacious and has access to the Spa facility pool. We were the only ones using it during our stay so we felt like it was our own private pool.
The room amenities were fine and never had to request for anything.
The continental breakfast facility was across the road in the main administration building.
Cooked breaky on request.
The lunch and dinner dinning facility was in yet again another building down the road at the tennis/pool club. Once we figured this out, were set. The restaurant was great, food fantastic and I'm now addicted to sticky rice with Mangos.

The Spa facility offered everything one would want at a full service spa.
I had my first Thai massage. I would recommend requesting light to medium strength massage. I chose the heavy or hard massage and regretted it when a had a olympic Thai gymnast for a measure doing floor exercises up and down my spine.

The Oasis is located quite some distance from town, 15 minute taxi/scooter ride.
Although this puts the Oasis in a quiet setting it is still quite a hike to get into town.

All-in-all, the resort was great but if we would have had a bit more explanation of the properties facilities explained to us along with a short tour it would have made all the difference in finding our way around.

I and my wife stayed at Oasis Baan for three nights in early Oct 2017. Everything is good! Friendly staff, nice room and environment, delicious breakfast, great oil massage! It's not close to the old town but it didn't create any problem to us. Instead, we had better sleep at Oasis Baan because of its quiet environment unlike the other hotel in the old town where we stayed the first three nights. You can utilize the hotel's shuttle service or rent a car/motorbike, which won't cost too much. I rented a motorbike at THB250/day for the first three days and a Toyota Vios at THB940/day for the last two days.

My parents stayed at Baan Saen Doi with friends recently when they came to visit us. (My husband & I and our kids live here in Chiang Mai.) Despite the poor rating I feel I must give this review, in actuality, my parents' stay in the resort itself was fairly wonderful, right up until the time where they were packing their bags to leave and discovered the several hundred dollars U.S. that was missing from the in-room "safe" that is provided "free of charge;-)" to each guest room. The German owner was called in. We were told that they were sorry, but in essence what we claimed was an impossibility. (The staff at the club facilities short changed them as well on a smaller note) My husband and I have happily promoted Baan Saen Doi, it's restaurant and club facilities to friends, family and others for some time now. Due to how this issue was handled (or perhaps not handled) by the owner of the establishment himself, we cannot recommend Baan Saen Doi in the future:-( And to those we have recommended it to, we would caution also. On the side; we have used in-house safes in quite a few of the larger more developed resorts/hotels (Baan Saen Doi seems to be a family run business) over the last decade that we have lived in Asia and have NEVER had a problem whatsoever. I usually look for a place with such a amenity, because one usually doesn't have to worry about lugging cash/expensive electronic equipment just to go out for a dip at the pool. It's very freeing-which is what a holiday is all about is it not? But for the safety of guests in the future, I would strongly recommend taking caution when using an in-room safe in this particular resort, or leaving any valuables in your room while you are out and about enjoying your holiday:-)

This “resort” (in fact a big private house with some resort facilities) is indeed nicely decorated with wooden furniture, and that is why it attracted our attention, but that`s all about it. In all other respects it was a terrible stay, namely for the following reasons:

1. The location is very far from Chiang Mai, you need to take a highway and then drive into a kind of closed condominium area to get there. This is the opposite direction from the airport than the centre of Chiang Mai. You will not be able to find any taxi there and most drivers from Chiang Mai will not be willing to go, either because they do not know the way or because it is simply not worth for them (too far and an empty ride back). Thus you will have to take the taxi arranged by hotel, which will try to overcharge you. Also, you will have to wait for it to come to pick you up, in our case for 30 minutes or more, and then the driver may drop you off at the place which is the easiest for him, not exactly where you asked. Expect to spend a considerable time in traffic jams, depending on the hour you go. The hotel does offer free airport transfer, but they will try hard to get money from you in other ways, for example, selling overpriced tours. You get much better prices in the city, but many tour companies will be unwilling to pick you up at this hotel or will charge you extra.

2. In no way a “5-star hotel”. Basic high-end hotel amenities such as individually packed toiletries (ex. soap), or tea/coffee machine are missing. No hangers for clothes in the wardrobe, except for the two already occupied with bathrobes. The room was poorly equipped in general (no place to hang towels in the bathroom, for example). Toilet flushed automatically every once in a while. Air conditioning system was very old and extremely noisy.

3. Deficient service. Reception is frequently left unoccupied due to the small size of the hotel and low occupancy. For example, they never answered the phone when we were trying to get back in the evening and the taxi driver was calling them to ask for directions. The hotel is apparently run by one family. So later in the evening, after we arrived, they just closed everything up, locked the front door and we were simply left alone inside without any possibility to contact anybody.

4. In the meantime, problems did happen. We soon found out that hot water in the shower was not hot at all, but only slightly warm, with ice-cold water dropping from “rainforest shower” above the head. I guess they deliberately put the boiler into “low heat” mode, knowing that only a few rooms were occupied. Also, we could not connect to Internet. But there was absolutely no one in the house to complain about it and we were given no telephone number to call in an emergency.

5. Breakfast was very poor: per person you receive 2 slices of the cheapest bread, 4 small pieces of cut papaya (described as “fruit plate”), small omelette, 1 glass juice, 1 cup coffee and 1 small yoghurt. No cheese, ham or whatsoever…

6. In this supposedly “quiet and peaceful hotel” – never mind the frogs or some other creatures squeaking in the pond in a quite annoying fashion - there also happened to be a loud party or “concert” with music yelling very close to the building until late in the night. Shortly before we were locked up alone, we complained and asked to change us to the other side of the building which was more quiet. The guy who was there connected us on the phone to his “supervisor” – the same woman who checked us in. Perhaps she is one of the owners. This lady refused to change rooms saying that we had “already got an upgrade to a suite”! This was a blatant lie, as we had quite a small room and had the opportunity to see what a suite next door was like. Perhaps she thought we had no idea what a suite in a hotel was!

7. In sum, this lady we dealt with all the time is very arrogant, pushy and untrustworthy. For all these reasons, the hotel is absolutely to avoid.

I truly can't praise Oasis Baan Saen Doi and its wonderful staff enough. Our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teen boys) stayed 7 nights recently and it became our home away from home. We were truly stunned on arrival - from the beautifully lit front entrance - a wooden walkway to the huge front door, flanked by water features, flowering lilypads, and lush plants. We were warmly greeted by hostess, the very lovely Lisa, who was a wonderful friend and true delight during our stay. She told us she had only been working at OSBD for 3 weeks, which was hard to believe as she was so knowledgeable and helpful. Other staff members - Bobby, Aey, Don, Jenny & Dawan, in their gorgeous green & gold Thai uniforms - were all lovely and incredibly helpful, they made our stay truly memorable. The hotel is small - only 11 rooms - so very peaceful. We booked the Grand Suite on the upper level and OMG, it was huge, incredibly comfortable and had everything a family of 4 could want - 2 spacious bedrooms with beautiful ensuite bathrooms, large loungeroom with HUGE platform daybed with masses of cushions (great for wrestling, reading and sleeping - we wanted to take it home), small kitchen (we didn't use it), small dining table, hallway - we were astonished at how much space we had. There is lots of wood as it is Lanna-style, lots of large windows let in plenty of light, and rattan blinds to cover them. We also had a large deck overlooking the front of the hotel, one part with a lovely wooden outdoor table setting and a roof over it for shade.
Breakfast was included, and whilst the choices were a little limited - 2 cereals, toast, croissants, swiss muesli, 2-3 sliced fresh fruits, yoghurt - you can also order eggs cooked to order, pancakes and other cooked items. We were often the only ones in the breakfast room downstairs, so it was very peaceful.
We booked day trips through the hotel and the staff were very helpful in helping us decide what trips to do.
There are two reservations I have about the hotel and one is its location (as mentioned in previous reviews) - it is about a 20 min taxi ride out of the city centre, so if you want to party every night you would be better off finding accommodation closer to the city. However, taxis are cheap and the staff often offered to drive us into town in the hotel's vehicle so that we didn't have to wait for a taxi.
The other issue is the lack of shops and restaurants within walking distance of the the hotel - it is located on a residential street in the middle of a gated housing community of upmarket houses (wealthy locals and expats?). We really missed having a small shop, i.e. 7-Eleven, nearby. The good news is there is a fantastic Oasis Day Spa across the road (for truly luxurious massages and beauty treatments), and a short walk down the road there is a fantastic Thai restaurant that we adored and a very nice salt-water outdoor pool next to the restaurant that hotel customers can use free of charge.

Lovely place . We had a very large twin room.. Very well appointed and beautifully decorated.. I regularly left money and valuables lying around and not one thing was touched.. I'd say that the hotels safe is above average security wise for a hotel..

Staff super friendly and accommodating. Noi especially. No hesitation in recommending this place .

The Baan Saen Doi Resort is a wonderful place for a stay in the neighborhood of Chiang Mai. The resort, located in a compound with luxury houses, is relatively small and peaceful, decorated with beautiful art: and very tasteful architecture with love for culture and environment. The facilities like Spa, swimming pool, fitness area and tennis courts, are located at a distance of a few hundred meters from the resort. These facilities can also be used by the people of the compound, but it is our experience that it is never busy.
Breakfast (with a personal touch) is located in the resort and the restaurant is located next to the other facilities. The food in the restaurant is very good and relatively cheap. It by far the best restaurant we have experienced in Chiang Mai.
Some points of attention: the location is rather isolated, and a rental car can be therefore very convenient. The resort does not provide tennis rackets, so if you want to play, you have to bring your own.

If you are looking for a romantic and beautiful place to spend your honeymoon, then this resport/spa is for you. The service is awesome and so the staff. Very friendly atmosphere and lovely vibe. A nice restaurant with live music and a huge swimming pool. The SPA was beautiful and nice. The food quality was not outstanding, but acceptable with the Thai standards.

What a treat. This hotel maybe a few minutes out of the Old City but the elegance and service puts this resort in class all it's own. Nestled in gated subdivision between the old City and the airport, gives this resort a perfect location for site seeing and yet peaceful and relaxing when you return from an excursion.

Across the street is the Oasis Spa to cater to your pampered needs. Just down the street beautiful pool, tennis courts and rooftop restaurant.

What Jewel of a resort and the staff are Gems.

Enjoy!

Arriving at Chiang Mai airport at midnight shouldn't be a problem. It's a 10-15 min taxi ride. They have the taxis right in front of airport and is cheap.

Not sure on square footage. We had room #10, which was great. It was only one bedroom but a nice size, plus extra little area for fridge and closet, and a nice size bathroom. Also a deck. I include our room number because I am not sure if ours was called the grand suite, but you could ask when you speak with them.
