Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Regina Riverside Guesthouse has been one of my favourite Chiang Mai restaurants for many years. BUT, if you don't like cats, it may not appeal to you. It attracts many tourists who have heard about it and are attracted to cats. Most of them are in cages, but are regularly let out and may come and visit you at the many tables in the garden. Rooms are basic. Food and drinks here are good Thai quality and inexpensive. There are a variety of cats, many of them beautiful. Regina Riverside Guesthouse is rustic and old style. Not particularly comfortable, but it suits the place. At the entrance there is a very interesting shop full of bric-a-brac. It's situated across the river from Warorot Market, near the pedestrian bridge.

If you cross the Ping River in Chiangmai on the recently rebuilt footbridge from beside the Warorot Market you can go into the lovely temple called WatKet/Wat Kate and visit their very interesting and eclectic museum- I go there every time I visit Chiangmai. When you emerge you might want to have refreshments in one of the nearby cafes on the other side of the street - Charoen Rat. You might want to choose the "Old Place" or the "Art Place". I used to use the Regina Cafe there because it is an interesting original wooden shop house, it has garden cafe which reaches down to the river and there are all sorts of artefacts to look at in the shop front before you walk through to the cafe part. It used to be a really interesting place to visit with tasty food. However, the owner/manager's obsession with cats has gone too far for this to be safe within the norms of hygiene for a cafe. As one passes through the building into the garden the whiff of urine from those cats that are caged there is really noticeable. I tolerated this briefly on my recent visit and I went to sit at a garden table. I'm really glad that, in order to sit in the shade, I sat at a table on a platform of bricks. Down near the water's edge are three or four smaller tables in the sun and they are just sitting on the dirt/soil. There are lots of cats walking/sitting around in the garden. While I was eating my lunch a large ginger tom cat came past me and started scratching a hole in the dirt/soil under one of these waters-edge tables and defecated into it. As cats do he covered his faeces up but only to a depth where the flies had no difficulty in finding it. You can imagine the stink as the Chiangmai sun warmed it up. Perhaps a subsequent customer stuck his/her sandaled foot in the mess. I shan't return.

This small guesthouse was offering an adorable clean room as well as a relaxed stay. Their lovely cafe by the river also served delicious pastries. Market on the opposite bank of the river. You should also try 'Vieng Jum On', the famous tea house located next to this place.

This restaurant/guesthouse is my favorite place in Chiangmai -- I have visited the place countless times. The food it offers is delicious and quite cheap compared to other riverside restaurants. The overall atmosphere of the place is good; cats strolling around lazily, jazz and country songs are at the background. For those who wish to stay over, Regina offers 6 small rooms which are all cute and suitable for 2 people. However, the rooms are usually fully booked so it is important to make a reservation in advance. I recommend the room with river view!

Like other reviews, the place is in a rustic style and in great location (next to the River and the Chiang Mai's famous tea house Vieng Joom On, among other nice restaurants) for less price. There are only a maximum of 3-4 rooms available at a time as at least two are occupied by the staff. The people here seemed friendly. But be warned though. The rooms are no longer in condition to receive guests. Their spring mattresses must have been broken long time back and the doors have holes which allow mosquitoes to get in very easily. You can't sleep here and they won't return your money. Was asked to pay in full for the three rooms and for two nights in advance and was politely told that the rooms could be cancelled but with no refund. The tactics used are the the owner is in Hong Kong and nobody is held responsible. My greatest disappointment ever.

My girlfriend and I stayed at Regina Guesthouse for 2 nights in January 2015, and we really loved it. The room is small and basic, but very cozy, with a window towards the river. Dao and his family were really welcoming and helpful. Great thai food at the restaurant of the guesthouse!

Located on the riverside in an old rustic teak building Reginas is a great place to relax with a beer and cheap meal and watch the river go by. The shopfront is filled with various nic nacs to browse through and the rustic eating area is outback beside the river. Be warned if you don't like cats this may not be your place as it is not unusual to have a feline visitor laying at your table asleep whilst you are eating.

We're here at Regina having tea and cake after wandering around the interesting shop at the front. At the back, open views over the River Ping- quite a sun trap. The shop is fascinating and the presentation of the menu really different - on the 1st page, Louis Armstrong 'a song " what a wonderful world". Very calm and relaxing, perfect after lots of shopping. (Not sure about the residential side of things), the photos look good :)

I came across the Regina guesthouse in January 2014 and its discovery was actually quite accidential. I'm so glad we found it though because it was definitely one of the nicest experiences we made during our travels in northern Thailand! My boyfriend and I decided to have dinner in Regina's restaurant garden right by the river. We were unaware that in addition to the delicious food and friendly staff, the Regina house hosted several guest rooms as well. The entire guesthouse inclusive of the restaurant is very quiet and perfect for some relaxation... Other than some of the other restaurants in the street which were very overcrowded, Regina's was always a calm and peaceful option. We looked at one of the rooms and immediately fell in love with the rustic, warm and comfortable character created by the brick walls and other interior design such as the stone bathroom. While it was all so simple, it does carry a very distinct and unique flair to it. The room was clean and in great condition - we did not have anything to criticize. One of the perhaps most memorable experiences of our stay was our surprising roommate... Regina's is famous for the numerous cats that live on the guesthouse premise and we were happy to greet one of the small kittens as she came wondering about our room! Very cute and I was happy to see such a great sense of animal friendliness in the guesthouse! All in all, Regina was a great experience during our northern Thailand trip and I would be happy to visit again soon!

We stayed within walking distance to Regina's and went there almost every morning for coffee. We also stopped in a few times for cake at night! The view in back is beautiful with picnic table seating. The music is usually french songs or jazz-very nice ambiance. Inside the store sells funky furniture and gifts. The coffee was always delicious and the service was friendly. We bought a few bags of coffee to bring home and will be sad when it runs out because it's so good!
