2023 Travellers' Choice Best of the Best
Perfectly located in the center of the old moated city of Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand, Rachamankha is just one minute’s stroll to the old city’s most important and impressive temple, Wat Phra Singh; just 2 minutes stroll to the city’s newest and most exciting night market the Chiang Mai Sunday Walking Street Market, and a wide choice of bars and restaurants from local to international in style all within a few minutes’ walk of Rachamankha. Unique for a city hotel Rachamankha is renowned for its peaceful and very private atmosphere, and its incredible architecture. The hotel, just 22 rooms and 2 suites, is set in 2 acres of manicured grounds and the architecture pays homage to Chiang Mai’s golden age, the Lanna period, offering guests a unique stay in a unique property with a true sense of place. Rachamankha is also the only Secret Retreats property in northern Thailand.

Rachamanka proved to be an immaculate, peaceful, and serene oasis perfectly situated in the heart of bustling Chiang Mai. We could not have been more thrilled with the beauty of the hotel or the attentiveness of the service—from the moment we arrived to the assistance we received during our early morning departure. Rachamanka was a perfect choice for our visit.

Incredible hotel - tucked away and very peaceful yet still in the heart of the old city. Lots of things were walkable and very convenient was the laundry service across the street. The staff were all so attentive and helpful. The pool area is superb and the restaurant was beautiful. Will definately come back and enjoy the very authentic Thai experience they provide. Lucky enough to enjoy massages which the hotel partners with the beautiful massage destination oasis which is next door.

Very beautiful enclave in busy Chiang Mai. On a side street in the Old City, the hotel is peaceful and beautiful. Amazing architecture, fabulous staff, delicious food. Common spaces are so appealing. Great showers and beds! Loved our stay.

Beautiful hotel, great location. Rooms are comfortable and hotel décor and gardens lovely. Restaurant serves wonderful food in a cosy courtyard often accompanied by traditional Thai musicians. NYE gala dinner was a highlight.

A beautifully designed hotel with every consideration made for your comfort. On arrival (after a very long flight) the beauty and tranquillity of the hotel and its grounds was breathtaking. The Deluxe room we stayed in was amazing. Not only was it elegant and sophisticated, the room also had lots of storage and great amenities such as high quality toiletries and a decent hairdryer. Every morning breakfast in the restaurant was served by polite and efficient staff who were always willing to help. The breakfast was amazing with a great choice. After a busy day in a beautiful but bustling Chiang Mai the serenity of Rachamankha was very welcome.

The Rachamankha is beautifully laid out in a quiet part of Chiang Mai old town. The service was excellent throughout, we were made to feel like valued guests from the moment we arrived. Rooms aren't massive but ours was fine for our three night stay, located in a courtyard with views over the pool area. The room was quiet, clean and comfortable with a roomy bathroom. The hotel's public areas are conducive to relaxing, and the pool area is an idyll - you wouldn't think you are in the centre of a vibrant city. Breakfast offered a rage of cooked meals, and a cold buffet area too. The hotel's restaurant is excellent, the Thai and Asian choices that we tried were wonderful and were some of the best meals we had in Thailand. Encouraging that local Thais used the restaurant. All in all this is a lovely hotel, would go back,

This is one of the most beautiful hotels I've ever stayed at. It is a joy to walk around the hotel and garden, taking in the immaculatly kept outdoors and wonderfully decorated place. The staff was super friendly, the breakfast delicious, even relaxing by the pool or in the lobby feels like a luxury. Congrats to the architect, the manager and the staff! I would come back to Chiang Mai just for this hotel. Highly recommended.

We've been visiting Chiang Mai annually for years, but since the two hotels we normally stay at have become extremely expensive, we decided to shop around for a new one. The Rachamankha is where we'll happily stay from now on. From a journalist friend who lives in the area, we learned that the Rachamankha was perhaps the first luxury hotel in Chiang Mai designed with a Northern Thai Lanna aesthetic. And it's truly a gorgeous complex, filled with art and antiques. It may be a bit older than some hotels in Chiang Mai, but it's beautifully maintained, so I can't see that as an issue. We booked a deluxe room at the very reasonable rate of $260 a night. Instead of the usual generic art prints or photos used as decor, it had some wonderful, slightly edgy artwork, which I really enjoyed looking at every day of our stay. The bathroom mirror had the best lighting of any place we stayed on a six-week trip, and the high ceiling in the whole room gave it a nice airiness. My only semi-complaint about the room was the firm mattress on the bed. To be fair, it wasn't uncomfortable, but it also wasn't plush. Maybe have a removable mattress topper for those who request it? One slight disappointment was that we had a shared terrace with the other guests on our floor, instead of a private one, something we'd realized when we booked. But that was entirely relieved by the spectacular public area, which has views onto two lovely courtyards. That's where we retreated to discuss our plans every day, after breakfast (and where we hope to enjoy some wine in the evening, on our next trip!) The size and seating allowed privacy when we wanted it, but we also had some good conversations there with other guests. Also, their elegant restaurant has excellent food. Breakfast is à la carte, but you can order as much as you like. Lunch and dinner menu had some Western choices, but focused more on Northern Thai specialties, all of which they do very well, and at affordable prices. And the staff---incredible. Their entire team was helpful, charming, kind, and efficient. No complaints at all, only kudos and thanks to all those lovely folks. I know a lot of reviewers probably say they'll return to a place, and never do, but the Rachamankha can count on seeing us again, next year.

Probably the best hotel and environment I’ve experienced! Simple, understated elegance. Tranquil. Gracious staff.. all of the ppl I encountered were simply wonderful. Perfect a/c (I’m ALWAYS hot and need superior a/c). Breakfast and dinner at hotel restaurant was well made, fresh ingredients, well presented and elegant dining. Although, guests, including myself, were casually dressed. Quiet because children under 12 are not allowed. Thank you! Make sure you check out the library! Unequivocally, I would stay here again!
