Perfectly located in the center of the old moated city of Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand, Rachamankha is just one minute’s stroll to the old city’s most important and impressive temple, Wat Phra Singh; just 2 minutes stroll to the city’s newest and most exciting night market the Chiang Mai Sunday Walking Street Market, and a wide choice of bars and restaurants from local to international in style all within a few minutes’ walk of Rachamankha. Unique for a city hotel Rachamankha is renowned for its peaceful and very private atmosphere, and its incredible architecture. Can't fault this beautiful, calm place. The hotel is expertly designed providing a haven of peace from busy Chiang Mai. The hotel is meticulously maintained and seems to ooze peace and tranquility from the minute you walk through the gates. The pool is excellent, long enough for lengths, shaded on one side, sunny on the other, and again, meticulously maintained. Poolside service was also excellent. Breakfast is served in the restaurant and was perfect: a good offering of hot dishes, plus fruits, pastries, cheese, juices, etc. More than enough and all beautifully done.
The staff are all very gentle and calm, again adding to the serenity of the environment, and all very efficient. If you want a boom-boom party place, look elsewhere. If you want a delightful, well maintained oasis of calm in which to relax, this is your place. We loved it.

This is exactly how we had hoped and wished for our hotel in Chiang Mai! This wonderful little boutique hotel is exactly how you would imagine a hotel in northern Thailand to be, completely in the style of the country, right down to the tasteful furnishings of the rooms. The entire hotel complex is extremely spacious, right from the front, the area in front of the hotel, then the open interior areas, always beautifully furnished in Thai style in appropriate places. The first-class service deserves special mention. We would like to emphasise the reception/conciergerie, who gave us the best possible support long before our arrival, again down to the smallest detail. During our stay, the young ladies and gentlemen were always ready to help us organise our day to perfection. Really great. It was clear to us that we would book this hotel again without thinking if we were to stay in Chiang Mai again.

We spent 3 nights in this beautiful hotel. The common section are beautiful, representing old style Thai. Staff is very nice and sweet and helpful. Breakfast and restaurant is very yummy ! Rooms (we had a superior one) are large and well equipped. It is beautiful inside the room the furnitures, the bed is nice. They could improve a/c, put some fruits in the room and modernized some small things like lights. Otherwise wonderful stay. Pull and library are beautiful as well ! A very nice stay in chiang mai !

The hotel is architecturally a masterpiece and is reminiscent of an old Japanese monastery that was converted into a museum/hotel. The property is just as contemplative, not to say boring. Smoking is prohibited by the pool, so you often end up sitting somewhere in the parking lot behind the house. The bar is closed from 10 p.m. and the a la carte breakfast was not very impressive and became boring after two days. The location is about 15 minutes walk from the center. If you are looking for absolute peace and quiet, this is the place for you.

We live in Chiang Mai, so this trip was a "staycation" for us. Ten years ago we stayed at the Rachamankha on our first trip to Chiang Mai from Singapore. It was immensely stunning a property then as it is now. This is not your average luxury hotel; it is a museum, an Asian art center, a respite, a retreat, a look into the ancient past surrounded by Chinese, Burmese, Thai, and other Asian antiques and objects d'art. Among these artefacts are: numerous ceramic Chinese dragon planters, Han dynasty tomb figures and horses, hundreds of antique Chinese blue and white porcelains, celadons, oriental carpets, antique Thai watercolors, chased and repousséd Thai silver bowls, lacquerwares, swords, multiple Thai and Burmese Buddha statues, Chinese and Thai furniture, Burmese pieces, and much more than I can type for this review! The upper gallery is not to be missed. There is a library on site. A pool, with a pool bar and massage building upstairs, is surrounded by lovely gardens and walls of hedges. Every architectural detail reminds one of Chinese merchant's mansion. There are modern paintings displayed in one dining room. Outdoors is a dining area with a fireplace for chilly January evenings. The flower arrangements are superb! Bonsai trees are in a few areas. The rooms are filled with Chinese furniture and are very comfortable. We had a king -sized bed, four poster, with mosquito drapes, which made the atmosphere even more romantic, though we had no mosquitoes! The food offerings are varied: Chinese, Thai, Burmese, Vietnamese, and European. Impeccable service! I want to add that true luxury hotels know how to fold napkins to make them etiquette perfect for one's lap. The seam and fold are already there to protect your hands and clothing. That is a small detail but impressive! Service everywhere is friendly, attentive, competent, and knowledgable. The tableware is Jingdezhen blue and white porcelains. All the food was beautifully served, fresh, and delicious! Our only disappointment was not seeing Kun Rooj, the owner, and Kun Zaw Lin Tun, the manager. We would have wanted to express our appreciation in person!

A beautifully designed hotel with every consideration made for your comfort. On arrival (after a very long flight) the beauty and tranquillity of the hotel and its grounds was breathtaking. The Deluxe room we stayed in was amazing. Not only was it elegant and sophisticated, the room also had lots of storage and great amenities such as high quality toiletries and a decent hairdryer. Every morning breakfast in the restaurant was served by polite and efficient staff who were always willing to help. The breakfast was amazing with a great choice. After a busy day in a beautiful but bustling Chiang Mai the serenity of Rachamankha was very welcome.

Quintessential Chiang Mai in a phenomenal estate style hotel, conveniently located in the Old City. My wife and I greatly enjoyed Rachamankha. The property is incredibly picturesque and rich with history. The staff are attentive and kind- it’s easy to make friends during daily breakfast, which was delicious every time. Can’t say enough good things. If you’re considering, and there is availability; this is an excellent stay in the Old City.

This is a beautiful and peaceful sanctuary within old town Chiang Mai. The grounds and rooms are immaculate and tastefully decorated. The staff are extremely attentive and nothing is too much of an ask for them. The breakfast is lovely and beautifully presented. I had a massage too which was excellent. The team booked all of our excursions and recommended other activities for us (as well as a good laundry service outside the hotel). It is a short walk from all the main sites in the old town and about ten minutes from the Sunday night market. The only one small feedback I’d give is the bed is quite hard but apart from that everything is perfect! It is especially lovely to come back to such a haven after a full on day of site seeing.

Rachamanka proved to be an immaculate, peaceful, and serene oasis perfectly situated in the heart of bustling Chiang Mai. We could not have been more thrilled with the beauty of the hotel or the attentiveness of the service—from the moment we arrived to the assistance we received during our early morning departure. Rachamanka was a perfect choice for our visit.

The resort reveals itself when you walk through different courtyards peeling away different areas until you reach the pool. Architecturally, I would say it is understated, keeping in line with the luxurious rustic laidback cool.
However, the rooms could use a little update.
Just to cite a few examples, the room itself doesn't feel all that sophisticated as the exterior. This is where I think it is a bit of a let down. The understated feel is gone and it is now 'budget'.
The air con hasn't been maintained for a bit and it rattles terribly. The mattress is overly firm and though it may be good for some, I would say it wasn't for me.
The bathroom is very basic and the water pressure isn't fantastic.
The entry doors though authentically designed, are ridiculous to use. The panels don't line up and it takes a bit of a brute force to pull or push both doors to align with the key strike box.
Everything works of course but the experience from the first impressions just wasn't carried into the rooms. Perhaps it would have been good if the management have taken the time to refresh the rooms during the lockdown period.
Also, as a ground floor room, I felt it a waste that there wasn't a little patio at least just to open it up.
Breakfast is surprisingly so so. This is the first Thai resort I have been to that doesn't serve good local dishes. The friend rice is blend and the noodles rather tasteless. Stuck with bread and western breakfast the next 2 days.
By no means a bad place to stay in for a couple of days. There are of course many good points about the resort. The staff were welcoming and attentive. There were no nasty surprises. And the location isn't bad.
Will return to stay but hopefully will afford the suites. Or if they renovate the rooms at least (hopeful).

I don't believe there are hotels right near the elephant camps and this is a very lovely place to stay. Many tour groups including Viatur will pick you up at the hotel and drive you about an hour or so to the camps.
There are more places to choose from in the Chiang Mai area.
