Tamarind Village is a unique and charming boutique property that nestles in the heart of historic Chiang Mai. Surrounded by ancient temples and quaint shopping streets, it takes its name from a magnificent 200 year old tamarind tree that shelters the hotel in a shady embrace.Tamarind Village is situated at the center of Chiang Mai’s old town. Many of Chiang Mai’s historic landmarks and temples such as Thapae Gate, the Three Kings Monument, Wat Phra Singh and Wat Chedi Luang are located within a few minutes walk of the hotel. Each week, Chiang Mai’s famous ‘Sunday Walking Street’ takes place just in front of the hotel’s entrance.

Lovely old hotel in a central position in Chang Mai. Had breakfast outside by the pool every morning, reasonable choice with freshly cooked eggs, omelettes. Relaxing pool area and bar - good after a day out sightseeing. Very helpful staff who gave us information about places to visit, markets etc

This is a stunning, colonial style hotel in the heart of Chiang Mai’s old city. The rooms are superb, as is the hotel itself; beautiful nooks and cranny’s to walk through and sit. A fantastic restaurant and bar, and a beautiful swimming pool area. However, whilst this should be a relaxing place to stay for couples, honeymooners and those just wishing to relax, there were during our stay, far too many young children with irresponsible parents, who did not care that their kids made as much noise screaming, shouting and crying as they could. There was no thought given for other guests who wanted to relax. This is not an appropriate hotel for families with young children. If you do come with young children, please be a responsible parent!! American families with young children by far the worst!

This is a lovely hotel. Very quaint. Excellent service. Rooms are sweet and quirky. BUT - if you are remotely sensitive to noise or you want to sleep at night, this is not the place for you. Whether it’s very loud American tourists shouting in the day or a dog barking constantly for the majority of the night or the neighbours’ cockerels crowing from 5am, the cacophony of sound is pretty unbearable. Otherwise, it’s lovely. P.S. Luckily, the hotel provides earplugs. We certainly needed them!

Spent 4 nights staying at the hotel during a tour of Thailand. Lovely, quiet, two storey hotel right in the middle of the old city but even though it’s in the middle of the town it was very quiet as surrounded by greenery with a long tree lined entrance well back from the road. You could easily miss both the front vehicular entrance and side pedestrian entrance as quite unassuming with only small hotel signs. We loved the design of the hotel built in the Lanna style set around small courtyards and with the 200-year-old tamarind tree in the centre. The hotel has a reasonable sized swimming pool with a few sun loungers mainly at one end but these were often all taken if arriving back in an afternoon. Being surrounded by trees the pool was fairly shaded so would suggest you find an alternative hotel if the pool is important to you. We stayed in one of the standard Lanna Rooms which was a reasonable size with everything you needed including two bottles of water replaced every day, a fridge, dressing gowns, slippers, hairdryer and a small bowl of fruit. The downside to our room was that it was very dark, we had no private terrace so no where to dry our swimming costumes plus because of the greenery we did have a problem with mosquitos in the room. The hotel does offer to put up a mosquito net when you check in which we had for the first night but asked for it to be taken down when we struggled to get in and out of the net at night (pulled it off the ceiling at one point). Instead we bought a can of mosquito spray from the nearest supermarket and used it to spray the room each night before going out which did the trick. The plus point to the hotel is its position as it’s in easy walk of a large number of the city’s temples (one or more on almost every street) and the city walls including the Tha Phae Gate plus plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. The hotel offers a walking tour three days a week which we did but to be honest we saw more when we went out on our own. We didn’t use either the bar or the restaurant but enjoyed the breakfast sat by the pool although the choice is fairly limited. Would be go back? Probably not as sure there are other hotels around at the same price with larger rooms, private terraces and a more open pool but do love Chiang Mai and would definitely recommend visiting the city if coming to Thailand.

Beautiful small hotel, has a really relaxing atmosphere and is very quiet even though it’s in the centre of the old town. Rooms are spacious and cool. The spa is fantastic. There is a wide range of food and drinks catering to everyone’s taste and budget. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend

Tamarind Village is centrally located in the old city which makes it ideal for sightseeing. It is full of character and spread out around attractive grounds, a real oasis in the city. It was quiet at night. We had a deluxe room for three nights which was spacious but quite dark but returning for one night later another deluxe room was quite cramped. The breakfasts were delicious and it was always possible to sit at a table by the pool. We tried to eat dinner one night but it took so long to be served that we left and ate at an excellent inexpensive local restaurant down the street. The swimming pool is quite small but this is to be expected within the confines of a city. My major criticism is that there is no handrail to the steps and the sides of the pool are slippery. The reception staff are delightful and always willing to assist. We would certainly return if ever back in Chiang Mai.

We stayed here for 3 nights while touring Thailand and it’s a beautiful place with the nicest staff. Only ate lunch here once but it was lovely food I’d definitely recommend it as it’s quiet and relaxing and suited us perfectly. It’s set back from the main road up a small track to make it feel exclusive and the staff just make it special

This is a charming characterful property but it is not well cared for. The furniture and accessories are in need of restoration or replacement. The rooms are cramped and dark, not cosy or welcoming. The pool is adjacent to the restaurant and there are limited sun loungers around this area. It’s not unusual to see guests eating breakfast next to sun bathing guests. The positive side is that it is in a central location and temples just a short walk away. The spa was excellent and we had a nice massage. The staff on site are very friendly and helpful.

A “bit rustic”. We stayed in some absolutely fabulous hotels during our Cambodia and Thailand trip. The Tamarind was a bit of a let down for me. We ‘upgraded’ to a room with some outside space “deluxe” maybe!! Small cramped and not a very pleasant space to relax so it wasn’t used. Bed was good (with the mozzie net), but the room was small and didn’t have space for cases of decent hanging room for clothes. Cockerels were an unexpected alarm clock!!! Breakfast was great. 9am rush, so be warned and avoid. Pool is small with limited beds/shade but didn’t bother us because we were out exploring the city mostly. Although the location was great, I wouldn’t stay here again.

Room Tip: I would recommend the free hotel guided walk (2hrs) round a few local temples. Guide was excellent.

This is a very nice hotel with an historic feel in the centre of the old city of Chiang Mai. The restaurant is good including the breakfast. Staff are excellent with a special mention of the young ladies on the reception desk. We stayed in the Spa Suite which was of good size and nicely furnished. There was a bath and outside shower. The room had a nice patio outside with a couple of lounging chairs as well as a seating area for drinks or food. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would stay again.
