Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a lovely little hostel in a central location in Chiang Mai, very close to both the airport and city centre, and perfect for a solo female traveler such as myself. Varada Place is clean, quiet and really good value for money with free tea and coffee. I stayed in the mixed dorm and found it to be very comfortable, and came everything I needed: AC, a fresh towel, plug sockets, nightlight and privacy curtain. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, particularly with assisting me with airport transfer. I felt very at home here, and will definitely choose this hostel again next time I'm in Chiang Mai.

This is the second time I have stayed in this hotel and would pretty much always stay in this hotel when in Chiang Mai. It does not have an elevator so you may have to walk up two or three flights of stairs. Rooms are impeccably clean and neat and staff cheerful and helpful. I would describe the hotel and area as 'Bohemian' ... and that's a compliment. I didn't arrange any tours through the hotel so can't comment on that. Suggest you familiarize yourself with using GRAB if you haven't already.

This place was great! We stayed here for 1 night before flying south, The staff were really helpful and the whole place was really clean Excellent facilities, there were computers and printers which we used to print boarding passes, also self service laundry machines right outside and the reception sells laundry detergent Lots of cats (not strays) which were all friendly which is a definite bonus!

Stayed for 1 night as I was too late to check in to my monthly apartment nearby. I normally avoid hostels in SE Asia (with a notable exception of Singapore and one very special place in KL), as I feel it's mostly of poor value (and is oriented on either young newbie travelers or die-hard fans of the hostels), as the private rooms do not cost much more if at all. In this case, the convenience of not going far from the apartments just to come back there next morning, as well as the reasonable price for a seemingly nice hostel, caused me to try it. I wasn't disappointed! First of all, I was lucky to have the entire room (3 bunk beds) for myself. But even not considering that, the room was very nice, new and clean. The room size is reasonable also, won't feel too crowded even if all 6 people were present, and the curtains on the beds would help in that case. Wi-Fi was good too. Check in/check out was easy and fast, you can have a free coffee near the reception too. Didn't check the private rooms, as the dorm was just enough (and the price just right) for my 14 hours stay. The area itself is of "expat" type and IS where I stay in Chiang Mai for a month or two once in a while during last 3 years, as there's almost everything nearby: food (from local to Western-oriented restaurants to a nicer but beautiful Huen Muan Jai restaurant), shopping (Kad Suan Kaew mall in 5 minutes walk), drinks (a few bars nearby, a beer garden opposite Kad Suan Kaew), public transportation (new city buses and songthaews to the city center and the nicest in the city Nimman/Maya mall - and at night the Grab ride costs just 60 baht from/to the center/bar areas, much less than the greedy tuk tuks ask). In short, the hostel is highly recommended for those backpackers who got bored of endless "Khao San" around with little of "local" flavor and lots of overpricing.

This hotel is incredible. It was the price which first attracted us however after reading various reviews (on many platforms) we booked and are so glad we did. The location is incredible, facilities are great and the owner is the best! She is so friendly and helpful and you can tell her staff reflect her values and try their best to accommodate the guest. I would recommend this 100%

Recently stayed for 4 nights at Varada Place. Really cannot fault the hotel. Clean and comfortable rooms, friendly staff, safe and extremely affordable. Highly recommend if you don’t mind staying in a quieter part of town. Old Town corner is less than 1 km away shopping centre with nice food in basement about 500 metres away.

Stayed in this hotel with my girlfriend and we both enjoyed our stay here. The hotel is easy to find which is near Central Kad Suan Kaew shopping mall in about 5 minutes walk. In my opinion I think the hotel has it all like free bicycle rental to go around the city, daily motorbike rental, they also offer and organize tours around Chiang mai which is nice. The owner Miss Varada is kind and friendly to talk with and her staff as well. The rooms are good for couples travelling together while in Chiang Mai and all rooms have microwave oven, table, 2 chairs, and medium sized fridge if you prefer to store food there and eat inside your room. They also offer free coffee and tea which you can have as much as you want on the 1st floor besides the front desk and plenty of tables outside to sit down and relax while drinking coffee. They also have washing machines outside the hotel which you can use thai baht coins to operate and you can hang and let your clothes dry on the balcony of your room. Outside the hotel you will see plenty of local thai food stores which offer and serves tasty thai food with affordable price and you can walk 5 to 10 minutes to go 7 Eleven store at the main road and cross the road to reach the big shopping mall for your shopping needs. Overall this hotel is good for budget travellers and you can get a good night sleep here. Definitely worth checking and staying while in Chiang mai city.

I stayed here for a few days with a friend, we originally booked for two nights and ended up staying six nights. Place is very clean, the beds are very comfortable and they have free water & tea & coffee. Location is great, close to shopping centre, gym and supermarket. Easy to walk to the North Gate and walk into Old City. Value for money is great. Vibe is very relaxed and easy going. Definitely recommend staying here.
