137 Pillars was one of the four hotels that my wife were fortunate to have stayed at during our recent trip to Thailand. It's "hidden" in a quiet mixed use neighborhood, close to Old Town Chiang Mai. From the moment you enter the property you get an immediate sense of privacy and tranquility. During our check-in we were personally greeted by Ann Arrowsmith, General Manager and our assigned "butler/concierge" Toto, who then escorted to our room while sharing the facilities available at the hotel. The on-site restaurant and bar are both excellent and tables are available both inside dining rooms our outside on the patio where breakfast is served. We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner at 137 Pillars during our stay; all were excellent both in choices and quality of food. The bar is also a nice spot to relax, pre/post dinner. If there's one aspect of stay that stands out it is the staff who are genuinely friendly, warm and cannot do enough to ensure your stay is memorable. Ann also checked up on us throughout or stay to ensure that our time at 137 Pillars was perfect. For anyone visiting Chiang Mai I highly recommend 137 Pillars for your home away from home.

This is easily one of the top hotel stays I’ve ever had. The GM, Anne, went out of her way to make us feel welcome. The rooms were incredible (see photos) and the attention to detail was perfect - turn down service included lighting mosquito deterrent candles on the patio and at the outdoor shower, etc. My #1 kudos is to Toto, who assisted us while we were there. Whether it was rides to the airport, restaurant recommendations, or helping me track down a bottle of wine I had had at a restaurant the prior night, Toto was the consummate professional and made me feel like I was his sole focus, while he supported a large number of groups. We can’t wait to go back!

The Pillars is a modern luxury hotel-built around a traditional Thai house with suites and public rooms which reflect its colonial heritage.
Suites are decorated and furnished in character but with state of the art technology as a bonus.
Breakfast is served in a dining room and courtyard offering Thai and other Asian fare as well as classic western egg dishes, bakery products, cereal and fruit. It’s quite a small hotel so doesn’t have the range of much larger places but it’s adequate (though the buffet area itself is a bit cramped.)
The dining room itself offers quite a range of Thai and Western food but as most residents eat out (and there is a massive choice of restaurants within 10 minutes walk) you could find yourself eating on your own. Toto, our butler, is a legend so if you’re looking for recommendations locally he will fix you up.

The only slight negative note was a sense that there are a lot of rules, for staff and guests, a trivial example being an unwillingness on the part of the waiter to leave the water bottle on the table at dinner: it had to be left on an adjacent counter. And the warning that if you take home one of the cotton hotel laundry bags you will be charged for it would be comic if it wasn’t so petty.

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at 137 Pillars House ten years ago to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and we absolutely loved it. Ever since, we had always hoped to return with our daughters. This year, we decided to make that dream a reality and booked our stay for our 25th anniversary.

The hotel itself is truly remarkable. The rooms are spacious, with verandahs that are almost as large as the rooms themselves, creating a sense of openness and tranquility. The design is elegant and thoughtfully crafted, with standout features such as the second outdoor showers, offering a unique and private experience right in the comfort of your room.

However, what truly sets 137 Pillars House apart is the exceptional quality of service. The staff are outstanding—whether at the reception, concierge service, or dining, everyone goes above and beyond to make your stay memorable. It felt as though they were always one step ahead, anticipating our needs before we even had to ask, ensuring we were always comfortable and taken care of. The restaurant and the bar is great for a hotel with only 30 rooms. There is a lovely lap pool on the grounds. Should you wish to spend time outside, the concierge service is there to help you with many suggestions. We had great suggestions from Tucky, who took care of my family during our stay.

This was truly a special experience, and we are grateful to have had the opportunity to return with our family to such a wonderful place.

A very comfortable vacation experience. The entire hotel is full of leisure time. The service staff are also very friendly and will provide assistance without disturbing your activities. Although there are not many choices for breakfast, the chef is very attentive and can help you customize it. It is very delicious. Although the swimming pool and gym are not big, they are very convenient. The interior of the room is very comfortable, with a balcony, a small living room area, a very large and comfortable bed, a desk, a rocking chair, and a large dressing area. Big bathtub. What makes me most happy is that there is an outdoor shower area. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

This is an incredible hotel and simply heavenly.
The service from the moment we arrived was impeccable and the staff couldn’t do enough to help us during our 2-day stay with Tuck acting as our personal butler throughout, which was brilliant. We were welcomed by General Manager, Anne, too, who was visible throughout our stay, which is always a good sign. We stayed in the East Borneo suite room (#3) and it was wonderful – spacious, with a super comfortable bed, a lovely indoor and outdoor shower and a large bath. The terrace area was spacious and very comfortable too and enjoyed some morning sun.
The hotel is set in beautiful and mature gardens with lots of trees and plants, and numerous water pools and some lovely art, which creates a very zen atmosphere, but worth checking if you want a room with more natural sunlight.
The swimming pool is stunning and perfect for relaxing or doing some lengths. The sunbeds don’t get much sun though, which is a shame. There is a decent gym but no sauna/steam room.
The spa was excellent, and we enjoyed some of the best massages we have ever had. Fon has worked here for 10 years, loves her job, loves the hotel and it shows, she was awesome.
Breakfast was lovely with a great choice of fresh and beautifully prepared foods. We had dinner one night and loved listening to the pianist enjoying our cocktails nearby (we found the main bar too cold) and then eating in the Palette restaurant. This offers a wide (probably too wide) choice of food, which was competent but not special. Wine choice by the glass was good but somewhat limited, with no rose available. We loved this place, thank you.

My wife, my youngest son and I stayed here for three days and had a really perfect stay. Certainly one of the best hotels I have ever visited. I would particularly like to highlight the incredible service - I have never felt so looked after as in 137 Pillars House. Toto from reception played a major role in this. He supported us in all activities. As we were on our way home, we received a question (via WhatsApp) asking whether he should reserve a restaurant for us for the evening (which we then asked him to do; we received the list of recommendations immediately after we arrived). And that despite the fact that the restaurant in the hotel is really beautiful and the food is excellent.
Nothing else is left to be desired. I also particularly liked the pool - it is a real 25 m long, so you can actually swim there, and in a beautiful setting along a green wall several meters high, see photos. Criticism? Difficult. Perhaps a little more storage space for clothes in the very nice rooms? We didn't find the guests that nice, but that's not the hotel's fault; I've had this experience in other high-priced hotels too. We found the massages very expensive, the prices were the same as at home, so we didn't book them. In the massage parlors in the city it costs around 15 times less, which is too big a price difference in my opinion.

We had an incredible trip to 137 Pillars House Chiang Mai in January of 2025. I was travelling with my family, including a young kid < 4 and a toddler, and 137 pillars was the highlight of the trip.
We stayed in the DF Macfie suite, which has a gorgeous outdoor shower, huge bathtub to bathe the kids in, and a lovely fully covered patio space that we were able to set up a daybed in and put the kids to sleep outside of the main room.
The staff were very responsive and helpful before we arrived. Ray, our personal butler (!!) reached out and provided several excellent suggestions for places to go and dine. When we forgot out baby carrier on our way to Thailand, we asked him for suggestions on where to buy a new one, and when the hotel shuttle came to pick us up they took us to the mall, helped us find a carrier and translate, as well as stock up on milk and other baby essentials.
At the hotel itself, everyone was incredibly friendly, helpful, attentive, and always had a smile. The breakfast was delicious and had plenty of interesting options, and that was before we realized there was an entire additional room of cold items we hadn't seen when we first got there.
The room and the grounds were beautifully kept up, quiet, peaceful, and luxurious.

Highly recommend to anyone who is considering a trip.

My husband surprised me for our anniversary and my birthday with a staycation at 137 The Pillars. Although we live here in Chiang Mai and have eaten at their restaurants for five years, and had their wonderful Christmas Teas etc. this was our first time staying here. We had a butler who gave us his Line so we could contact him for anything, anytime! Example, we want to use the pool so I texted him and when we arrived at the pool, the towels are set up on the lounge chairs with extra for use after swimming. By the way, the pool has an enormous wall behind it completely covered in lovely foliage! So serene!
Whatever room service we wanted, we texted him. The breakfast was included in our package and, with covid, it is not a buffet, but you can order whatever you want from the menu. Their Eggs Benedict was authentic although I chose salmon not meat.
The congee with chicken was exceptional, just like in Singapore Chinatown or China! If you are a westerner and have never had this rice breakfast porridge, try it here because it is very tasty! We had a lovely suite with a huge veranda that they call a balcony. A balcony is small...this is a large veranda which was on the second floor. ( get marketing to change the word to veranda) It had a wonderful special wood rocking chair with foot rest, A deep- seated sofa to fit three people, a table for eating meals, and beautiful orchids and flowers, all overlooking the grounds.
Our lunches, dinners, and breakfasts were exactly what we ordered, flavored to our request, and with abundant portions.
The afternoon tea, which my husband ordered on the veranda for one lunch, was perfect and had a combination of savory and sweet items. We each had a large pot of tea. The room comes with a mini bar, lots of water, and there is an assortment of various alcohol bottles if you want to drink alcohol or make a mixer, like a rum coke. The wifi is excellent.
There is an indoor footed bathtub with bath salts, an indoor large shower and an outdoor large shower, which my husband really enjoyed. The manager was on site and she was very charming. The entire staff were exceptional! They were appropriately attentive, not hovering. We try to do staycations in this time of covid and felt that since we were not flying down to Phuket or Koh Samui (lovely places too) that we would splurge a bit and stay at this incredible place. It is historic. It is romantic. It is quite special. Those who can should perhaps consider staying at 137 The Pillars to help such traditional and historic places continue to provide extraordinary experiences for locals and tourists for decades to come.

Thailand is a religious country. As such some Buddhist are vegetarians, and dairy isn’t a staple of the Thai diet so vegan meals aren’t hard to come by.
