Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

lovely hotel but be aware they don't sell / serve alcohol. Not a biggie but no cold beer or cocktail by the pool! Rooms are lovely and so are the staff - easily accessible to the town / city wall - just a short stroll away. They offer free bracelet making by the pool in the mornings too

Bit disappointed by this hotel. The hospitality wasn’t great compared to the previous hotels we stayed at in Thailand. It was fine. Breakfast buffet was good. The room also had some downfalls- the bathroom is weird with an open concept shower that floods everywhere, and the door to the bathroom isn’t a regular door. The pool was nice. There is not a spa or a bar (no cocktails!) on site which was a bit of a let down. It is centrally located by the ancient city and a short walk to the Saturday market.

Exceptional service. Nothing is too much for the staff to help you out if they can. Very caring and kind when I wasn’t well . True Thai hospitality in practice from everyone : management, front desk staff, housekeeping, chefs and catering to concierge and guards. Had a family friendly vibe that caters for all ages and needs. Great rooms and although centrally located, it’s set back from the busy road so not noisy . Traditional style buildings and very comfortable. Greenery, flower gardens with running water around the property was very calming and relaxing. The dark wood timber and white paint exterior with stained glass reflect a traditional style that was very cooling and pleasing . Loved it! Just the right size of hotel for me - boutique ! Chefs were great at catering for vegetarians on request if you wanted something and they had the ingredients. Lovely Thai curries . Cafe on site was fabulous as well the pool . The cafe had great spaces to sit and relax whilst sipping your teas, coffees, and cold drinks. Superb cakes and pastries to indulge yourself. Charming . Fabulous hotel - would fully recommend to all family and friends if visiting Chiang Mai or nearby places.

We liked this hotel. The room was large, the bed was comfortable, the shower was strong and hot, the pool was nice. Breakfast was good, with excellent coffee. The only surprise was that they don't serve alcohol at all (they are happy for you to bring in your own).

We stayed at Smile Lanna for a couple of days and it checked all the boxes. There wasn’t anything special about our stay and we preferred the Terracotta hotel over the road for a more boutique experience. It has an impersonal resort feel and is well set up for families. The location is excellent especially for the walking street market and old town. The pool is heated and very pleasant. The gym was too small and cramped with the machines but nice to use. The buffet breakfast was typical and they gratefully provided gluten free bread each morning. As a coeliac there was enough choice to eat but risk of cross contamination.

We had a wonderful stay at Smile Lanna. The staff was welcoming and helpful. The place was lovely. We were there over New Year’s Eve and they had a super fun celebration. The location was near everything and we walked to the Sunday street market. The breakfast was the best that we had in Thailand! Shout out to the employee named Doi who was the friendliest and most helpful!!!!

This hotel is INCREDIBLY dishonest. We booked a “Grand Deluxe” room, which is specifically advertised as having a day bed and being 45 sq m. The room we were given was barely larger than the bed - we are a couple traveling with our infant son and the crib only just fit in the room. No day bed, absolutely not 45 sq m. My parents next door had a spacious room, with day bed, and had booked the same category. We spoke to the front desk numerous times and were told we were given “the only grand deluxe room that doesn’t have a day bed.” The advertisement for the grand deluxe specifically includes a day bed and extra space, that is what sets it apart from the deluxe rooms. Eventually, the hotel said they would move us to a new room with a day bed on our second night, but would not be giving us any compensation for the fact that our first night is not in the room category we booked. Further, it is not easy for us to pack all of our infant’s stuff up and just move night by night. Ultimately, this is completely dishonest and deplorable business habits. If we weren’t here with my parents, we would have asked for a chargeback on our credit card and gone to another hotel. This was a horrendous start to our vacation and had the mistake simply been acknowledged and corrected (pay the room rate for the smaller room on night one and move us to the proper room we booked on night two), this all would’ve barely been as issue. The lying, however, is truly infuriating. I will never come here again and would warn anyone against booking it, and you have absolutely not certainty that you will get what you booked, or even honest service in the least.

Beautiful hotel!! Spotless clean, superb breakfast, very friendly staff and some nice entertainment during the day. I’ve stayed in lots of hotels but this one joins the list of my favourites. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a lovely boutique hotel in Chiang Mai.

We stayed prior and after our motorcycle tour. Had a lovely room with balcony overlooking the pool. Staff are very welcoming and helpful. Has a nice coffee shop in the grounds which serves snacks which are delivered from the hotel kitchen. The breakfast had plenty choice, served in a large room opposite the reception area. Would stay again.

The old city of Chiang Mai can be overwhelming with heavy traffic and dense buildings. When we stayed five nights at Smile Lanna recently, we always felt relieved when coming back to its spacious and tranquil grounds, even though it's just a short walk from the bustling Chiang Mai Gate and Wua Lai Walking Street. The good: huge and well-appointed room with traditional touch, temperature-controlled pool, lots of greenery with doves and squirrels about, free bracelet and soap making activity, free daytime airport transport and daily transfer to night markets, free snacks in room and fruits at pool bar, polite and helpful staff. The not-so-good: breakfast has a good spread but feels repetitive after a few days, gym is very small and not well equipped, too many mosquitoes outdoors though it may be a problem for Chiang Mai in general rather than the hotel itself.
