We stayed here for 10 nights last November in a two bedroom suite situated across the road from the main hotel. It was large, modern and very well equipped. The bed in the master-suite was huge and extremely comfortable and the main bathroom was spacious, with a sliding glass wall separating the two rooms. The suite was beautifully cleaned each day with drinking water, tea and coffee being replenished daily too. There was nothing we could really find fault with in the suite, but if I had to choose something, it would be that the lighting in the bathrooms could have been a bit brighter.
As for the rest of the hotel, I would describe it as a tranquil oasis in the midst of a busy city. A feeling of calmness descends as soon as you walk in to the lobby. We ate at the main restaurant on a number of occasions and the food never failed to impress. There is also a lovely rooftop bar overlooking the pool, which itself overlooks the river. There are various excursions and activities organised by the hotel, one notable one being the sunrise cruise down the river, which was very enjoyable and informative.
However, I think what makes this place so special is the people that work there. Without exception, they were friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived until we departed. This really is a wonderful hotel and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone visiting Chiang-mai.

Had a wonderful experience. KIK from front desk at the service suites was very helpful and knowledgeable as a concierge. The property is well kept, also the restaurant manager at 1921 was very warm, polite and welcoming. Good to come during the low season, less crowded and plenty of choices around the area for dining and authentic local markets not for tourist.

Upfront: Just be aware that there are two building complexes across the street from each other, both the Anatara. The presumably original one is the conventional hotel located on the river. The other one is the "Serviced Suite" on the other side that looks to be newer. Both look very nice but just depends on what you need. We were traveling with an adult son, so we went with a Serviced Suite. The hotel's descriptions online are vague, but ours had two spacious bedrooms, each with its own private bath. There was also a common room with a living area, dining area and kitchen, which was very nice. So it was excellent as far as our needs since we could be together as a family. The staff were wonderful and even brought our son a beautiful cake and fruit arrangement on his birthday. Slight critique: the rooms were a bit dark and the view out the window was not the nicest, mostly other buildings. However, you can walk across the street to the original hotel, which used to be a British Embassy. There you find all the lovely open-air restaurants, riverside breakfast buffet, pool and bar. I presume those hotel rooms look out onto the river. The hotel did a beautiful job (and is to be commended) on preserving the original British Embassy look and feel. The walls of the more formal restaurant are decorated in MI6/spy craft memorabilia, the waitresses wear period costumes, there is a private dining room called the "Map Room" that you access via a secret door in the bookshelves, the menu's are in a 1950's cold war typeface complete with redactions, and even the napkin holders look like brass knuckles, so lots of attention to detail. On top of that the meal was excellent! So high five on the decor and offerings of the wood-paneled classic bar and dining areas. Very extensive breakfast buffet including lattes on a lovely riverside patio. Minor Caveat: We thought we understood that their high tea was complimentary, but be warned that it was not.

This hotel room was perfect for family or friends gatherings. The 2-bedroom suite had 2 bathrooms and a separate living room, making it an ideal space for socializing. I am actually writing this review about our tour of the hotsprings in chiangmai. Our tour guide Ms Suri was extremely informative and helpful throughout our trip. She was well-versed with the history and culture of chiangmai and knew my limitations being that I'm asthmatic and never pushed us beyond our limits.
We visited a beautiful temple village and saw some waterfalls there. The water is so clear and clean as it is tree water and one can literally drink from it. We also saw lovely quaint villages and had coffee on the hilltop. Overseeing the entire village.
We ended our tour at the hotsprings. What an experience that was indeed. Sweltering heat and hot spring water...but we did it as I suffer from lots of skin ailments. I had immediate relief from dunking in the spring mineral water. I cannot recommend thus healing experience enough. And please do ask for Ms Suri. She's the best tour guide. 😍

Such an amazing hotel. The location, staff, and attention to detail here is amazing. Most beautiful outdoor dining restaurant overlooking the river was the perfect start to every morning. Breakfast buffet was outstanding as was the service. But one of the best things about this hotel was the location, situated one block from the daily night market which made it extremely convenient to grab a wide variety of the cities best foods. We will definitely return to this hotel next trip to Chiang Mai!
