All of our houses are made from teak wood. The furniture and accessories have been carefully and lovingly handcrafted in an antique style. Our resort is called the “Granary Resort” because our houses are built in the authentic Lanna style of old rice granaries (storehouse). In the Thai language this style is called “Lhong-khao” or “Yung-khao”. These two story houses are our guestrooms and are our way of keeping alive the beauty of our Lanna architectural heritage.

Amazing little resort on the Ping River just a short (and cheap!) grab taxi ride away from town. You're in your own little cottage set in beautiful gardens with towering tropical trees, manicured lawns, flowering bushes with fluttering butterflies. The hosts are wonderful and the breakfasts were yummy (Both local and western.) Our cottage was right above the banks of the Ping River. It felt like we were a million miles away from everything, and we had a view of the hills also. Wow !! We stayed here for one week, and then tried an expensive resort in the city. We were really disappointed in the expensive resort in the city and next time we come back, we will only stay at The Granary Resort for the entire time. I don't think I'd stay any where else in Chiang Mai.

When we booked the Granary we did wonder whether it would live up to the gorgeous pictures on the website. It did! I checked by emailing a previous Trip Advisor guest and asking a Chiang Mai local 'expert' on the forum page to see what the catch was but both had only very favourable comments to make about it.

It is about 20 minutes from the centre of town. Not sure why anyone would want to stay in a city centre when you can enjoy clean air so close by. The journey to the centre takes you beside the river Ping through residential areas so you get to see a slice of normal Thai life on the way. The staff were always happy to take guests free into town whatever the time of day or evening in the very presentable and comfortable minibus in contrast to the tuks tuks we bumped back to the resort in!

It may be useful for anyone who doesn't like steps to know that all the barns are raised -some more than others. As we had a two year old in tow, we requested a barn away from the river as they have terraces with an uninterrupted view of the water. You may not want to imbibe too much and wander out there in the dark unless you fancy a dip.

As others have mentioned, you have to share the Granary with some vociferous wildlife. We thought the geckos were very entertaining in the dead of night. And does anyone in Chaing Mai not own a cockerel?! Fortunately we find this funny but it might not suit a city type who prefers beeping horns, revving engines, police sirens.......

There are several eating places within walking distance. The beautiful but relatively expensive riverside Ban Suan restaurant (approx £15 per person including drinks) is 10 minutes stroll away but staff kindly drive guests back afterwards. A very laidback, restaurant 5 mins up the road (approx £5) which was very popular with local people, always a good sign. And another nameless restaurant 5 mins the other way which wouldn't offend the budget either. There are some small shops and makeshift bars dotted around.

The resort is located to the north of the city which makes it closer to some of the popular attractions. It works out cheaper to hire a taxi by the hour and sightsee at your own pace than go into the city and join a tour group and drive back out again!

Hard to fault and look forward to staying here again on next visit to Chiang Mai.

We had a wonderful five night stay at this resort. The tropical gardens and setting for the teak Thai style buildings absolutely exotic. The location is 6 km from the old city of changing my and a cheap grab ride into the city. We slept incredibly well the whole time here because of the peace full nature of the place. The daily breakfast was beautifully presented with a choice of either Thai or western style breakfast. Due to the location of the resorts, we feel it may have benefited from a free and regular shuttle service into the city from the resort several times a day.

We would certainly stay here again and recommend it to others if relaxation is important and a non-central location.

Our experience was amazing. Being rainy season (with barely any rain) we were the only customers. We had breakfast daily on our balcony overlooking the pool. The property gardens are so beautiful you couldn't help but spend days relaxing by the pool listening to the sounds of the rainforest. The villa was spacious, clean and unique. I love the outdoor shower and furnishings. The staff were always friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Noom who took care of our every need including many trips into town for meals or activities.

We spent 10 night in The Granary, with a booking of 3 bungalows and this was a very nice stay. The hotel and the bungalows are really designed in a way to feel relaxed, and at peace.
I really recommend this place for couples and families with little kids (even if the swimming pool water was very cold!!)

My husband and I stayed at this resort for one week, after a hectic week in Bangkok where we had a conference. I wanted a true relaxing vacation, with sightseeing and relaxation.
This hotel is breathtaking. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are incredible, with exquisite attention to detail. The service was amazing, both by the manager and the lovely young lady who asiisted him and catered to our every desire in English (she was taking Business English in University and thanked us for being her teachers.
Everything was perfect.
The hotel is 15 to 20 minutes by car from Chiang Mai, so not for those who wish to be in the middle of the action. There is one free ride into the city each day, and a tuk tuk takes you back for 200 Baht.
There is a restaurant on site that is quite good, but one need not eat there all the time as there are lots of good restaurants in town.
Brakfast is included and is very good.
The price was extremely reasonable for what you get.
I only wish it were not so far from Montreal because we would go every year. The week we spent was wonderful, romantic and good for the soul.

It should have worth much more than that !! we're the only couples in the whole resort during our stay, it is so tranquil and full of surprising details, I love it !! I guess it would be even better if they could provide spa service, it would be nearly heaven !!

The Granary is a great place to relax and do nothing. The gardens and pool area are beautiful. It is very quiet, we didnt see another guest until the last night. The staff are great and will drive you into town and organise trips for you. The only thing is..... bring bug spray, the bugs seemed to love me there!

It probably is the most interesting place I've ever stayed at. It is so obvious that the owner has put their heart and soul into the Granary. It's an amazing place. Each bungalow is unique, with so much thought put into it. It was the highlight of my vacation to Thailand. I can't say enough good things about it.
