As someone who has brought over 400 students for study and service over the last 13 years, I can say that the Shanti Lodge has been our best host, in all the 8 countries in South and Southeast Asia we’ve visited. My organization has had only positive reviews from its students, many of whom have returned, and regard the Shanti... More

This is the second time I have stayed at Shanti Lodge in Phuket -- the owner is a fellow South African and I was made to feel very welcome, the pool is the centre of the Lodge, it is beautiful, the decor is rustic and the food wonderful. My room with a kitchen made my stay very comfortable. It offers... More

I stayed at the Shanti lodge with a group of students for about a week. The lodge served as our home away from home as we travelled in and out of Bangkok. We were extremely well taken care of, very comfortable, and safe. The atmosphere is warm and inviting with a great restaurant downstairs and very sweet clean rooms upstairs.... More

The Shanti Lodge is tucked away in the quaint neighborhood of Sri Ayuthya, which is in easy walking distance from a multitude of tourist destinations. The building is shrouded by vegetation and the wafting smells of nearby street food vendors. It is, upon entry, a place of exotic efficiency, where the open-air lobby and restaurant floor is constantly alive with... More

The shanti lodge housed myself and some classmates early January on a service learning trip. They learned our names, provided us with a roof and amazing food. After our group trip I returned to the Shanti before my flight home. I stayed in the Dorm and was met with clean sheets and flexible payment time. The girls remembered me from... More

I really enjoyed it here, it was definitely nicer than I was expecting. The food was good, perhaps a little pricey, but the market was a minutes walk and good food could be had on the street all around. The rooms were nice and they had a water filter by the showers in the common area where you could fill... More

The Shanti Lodge is one of my favorite destinations in Thailand. Every time that I visit Bangkok I make a point of going there and enjoying the incredibly unique and comforting atmosphere. The food is some of the best in the world (worth every baht) and the staff is professional and polite. Regular patrons of the Shanti Lodge will find... More

I love the Shanti Lodge, Bangkok is a crazy place and the Shanti lodge is a peaceful place within the city yet removed from it at the same time. On top of that the employees of the Shanti Lodge treated me as family; taught me Thai words, told me the places to go and the price the rickshaw should be.... More

Staying in Dusit

Neighbourhood Profile
Dusit
When wandering around the Dusit Palace grounds, you'd almost forget you're still in a Southeast-Asian city. The Renaissance-style buildings and leafy gardens wouldn't be out of place in an European capital, and the serenity here is in stark contrast with the chaotic city life outside of its complex walls. Dusit is one of Bangkok's oldest districts, and while the rest of Bangkok is modernising at a rapid pace, Dusit seems to have stood the test of time. Come here to find family businesses in traditional shophouses, small-scale local markets and streets unfazed by modern city life.
