Away from the Bangkok chaos, this guesthouse offers quiet and comfort. The rooms are fair- nothing special- but clean. I stayed a few days and while I didn't try any of the western offerings on the menu, all of the Thai food was below average and disappointing. I tried a variety of dishes but kept going back to the rice...

my sisters first stayed in shanti lodge mid 90s and loved it. first time i was there in 2005 it was great as well - now summer 2012 it's still a good place but the enthusiasm of the staff has worn off - quiet a bit, which you can feel. the location is nice and close enough to khao san...

The only good thing about this place is the restaurant which is excellent. Rooms were easily accessible from the street and only a tiny padlock for security. Dark, dingy, dusty room with no mirror even in the bathroom. A couple of hooks on the wall to hang clothes. You can get MUCH better value elsewhere.

I first came to Shanti Lodge in 2005 and it inevitably has changed loads in the past 7 years. The complex has expanded around a few other hostels, which makes the community feel of it diluted. Rooms have never been anything special, but clean with a fan. Private with hared bathroom is 400 baht, which isnt bad for BKK. Make...

When we first went to Shanti lodge about 10 years a go it was a haven in the bustling area of Kaosarn, located at a dead end street, near a temple and a market and close to the boat taxi its a unique location but the service became less and less over the years and the room pries went up...

I've stayed here twice, in 2007 and 2012. Loved it both times. My sister, cousin and about 5 friends have also stayed here in the past and loved it as well. The guesthouse, is in a perfect location, i'm not really into the crazy loudness of koa san rd. but this place is only a 15mins walk from there. shanti...

We were very surprised to read the poor reviews about the staff. We found them very pleasant and helpful. It's true that not all of them speak English, but this does not mean they are rude if they do not understand perfectly. The problem more likely lies with the attitude of the foreigners staying there, on 2 occasions we saw...

I was here at april 2012 because one of my friends recommended the place for me. I was traveling alone and there would be a cool atmosphere and lots of backpackers. In fact that is true, there are a lot of travelers and the decoration is nice. It is a little far from kao san road but the ferry is...

We came to stay in Shanti Phuket by mistake. We had, had a hideous two day bus journey to Phuket and got to our pre booked accomodation on New Years Eve and it was nothing short of dreadful?! Looked in the Rough Guide in desperation and found Shanti. We had planned to stay for just two nights and ended up...

How do they still have a business??? You are greeted at reception with little more than a GRUNT (if you are lucky) once you have booked and are obliged to stay the night. You are then considered little more than an annoyance. And if you are able to pull one the multitude of staff away from their laptops / I-pad...

Staying in Dusit

Neighbourhood Profile
Dusit
When wandering around the Dusit Palace grounds, you'd almost forget you're still in a Southeast-Asian city. The Renaissance-style buildings and leafy gardens wouldn't be out of place in an European capital, and the serenity here is in stark contrast with the chaotic city life outside of its complex walls. Dusit is one of Bangkok's oldest districts, and while the rest of Bangkok is modernising at a rapid pace, Dusit seems to have stood the test of time. Come here to find family businesses in traditional shophouses, small-scale local markets and streets unfazed by modern city life.
