I have slept in various places that a normal backpacker would never sleep in, which include on beaches, along the highways, in gas stations, in abondaned houses, in shabby huts, in local houses, in police stations, in temples .etc..., therefore I don't mind whether the toilet is dirty or the bed is hard as metal. What I care is the...

I have stayed in a lot of hostels and this is the worst by far!! The staff were unhelpful and didn't even have any change to give me when I paid for my room on arrival so I had to go back at a later time. The hostel is extremely dirty. The pipe on the sink in the bathroom didn't...

No answer from the email address listed on the website and in the agoda confirmation. Sheets, floor and bathroom filthy. Staff surly and hostile (I speak their first language fluently). No towel, didn't dare ask for one after seeing the sheets. Location on a street with busy traffic and an unpleasant walk to transport connections. This is really a terrible...

I see there's a wide range between the experiences people've had in this hostel, so I'll try to clear it up. This is probably the cheapest hostel in Bangkok, located in the middle of China Town. Khao San Road is only a little boat ride away, or 80 baths with a tuk-tuk. There's delicious and cheap street food everywhere, and...

Whatever you read in good reviews about this place, don´t believe it, there´s absolutely no way those reviews can be real. This is by far the dirtiest, most gross place I have ever been (and I didn´t really expect much for the price). When we first arrived the "reception" was empty, after a while the owner(?) came out in his...

I stayed in the Shadow Inn for two nights. The owner is very very nice and the accommodation right in the centre of Chinatown. Very good location to experience Bangkok. The Hostel is clean and has got nice rooms. And still really good if you are travelling on a low budget. Perfekt place to visit Bangkok!

It's great value for money: good location, clean rooms and free Wifi internet with good speed in your room. But what I appreciated most was the family owning and running the place, they were the most positive human experience during my whole vacation. The service is fantastic and they make you feel like you are part of their family -...

Staying in Chinatown / Yaowarat

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown / Yaowarat
Better known as 'Yaowarat' among locals, Chinatown is Bangkok's bustling district that never sleeps. During the day, the main street and its small alleyways are filled with a vibrant mix of colours, scents and flavours coming from the roadside restaurants and all-day markets. The real action, however, happens after sunset. Surrounded by neon lights, Thais and tourists alike flock here around dinnertime to feast on some of the best street food in town. Escape the chaos by venturing a little further from the main road and discover hidden shrines, friendly locals and daily life in its purest form.
