When my husband turned 40, I surprised him with a trip to Bangkok and chose the Mandarin Oriental for its reputation as 'the number ONE hotel'. The lobby exudes such an old world, elegant and sophisticated charm missing in most city hotels nowadays. Breakfast by the river was one of the highlights of our stay, watching the comings and goings...

It was my second stay here and this time we had a room in the old building with an amazing view of the river. The room in some cases did show its age but this is well compensated by the charm. breakfast by the river was lovely and you never get bored just walking around the lobby and tea rooms.

Outstanding hotel, one of the best in the world. Quite simply, they don't come much better than this. First class service, food, facilities and ambiance. Outstanding views of the river and it's traffic, indeed some of the hotel's facilities are on the opposite bank so plenty of opportunity to cross the river on it's complimentary shuttle boats.

This is an amazing hotel and the awards that they have won, year after year, are very well deserved. Service was exceptional throughout the hotel, and the Thai lunch buffet at the hotel's Thai restaurant, Sala Rim Naam, was exquisite -- without doubt the best Thai food I have ever had (tied with the former Mandarin Oriental in Chiangmai). Every...

I believe that God is in the details, and if that's true, this is a shrine. From the minute you drive up to the property, to the time they put you back in a car to the airport, you feel special, taken care of in a way that is rarely experienced. Upon arrival, they give you jasmine flowers, lemongrass tea,...

It's one of my favorite places to eat and to implement into practice "good food good life" idea :) in Bangkok (apart from street bar at Rama V). Fantastic atmosphere at the terrace next to the bank of Chaophraya river. Extremely good service including very polite and helpful hotel/restaurant staff. If you can - stay there or at least enjoy...

This is the best hotel I ever stayed in. I stayed there on three separate occasions, and each time I was quite impressed. Yes, it is somewhat expensive, but it is well worth it. Service is impeccable throughout the hotel. (I found it amazing that the elevator starters remembered my floor number after one day) The food is excellent in...

Staying in Silom

Neighbourhood Profile
Silom
Despite the lack of any major tourist attractions, this lively neighborhood is a favorite of many. Whether it's the (somewhat naughty) nightlife of Soi Patpong, the various handicraft night markets or the plethora of dining options that tickle your fancy, a night out in Silom is a must on every itinerary. It's worth a stop during daytime, too: join office workers on a quest to tasty street food during lunch and shop at Silom Complex for a great mix of Thai and international stores. After a day of strolling around the congested sidewalks, a visit to Silom's Lumphini Park, Bangkok's answer to NYC's Central Park, is a welcome change of scenery.
