I lived in Thailand for four years in the 1990s, and I know Bangkok well. In November 2012, I was in Bangkok for a conference, and we got a special rate at the Oriental, which allowed us to stay there for a whole week! I can't praise this hotel enough. The service is exquisite, never over-bearing. The rooms are lovely... More

We spend three nights at the Mandarin Oriental hotel and everything was close to perfection to make it an unforgettable stay. It is a splendid compound ideally located right on the Chao Praya River. A beautiful architecture with fantastic terraces right on the bank of the river where the buffet breafast is served and where you can relax over a... More

Mandarin Oriental once was the best hotel on the globe. Maye be not anymore (Dubay or so?) but is still more then fantastic to stay here. We stayed a week in the Mandarin Room, a spacious room, view on the river and the city, and everything was100% OK. As a guest you are important and everyone of the staff is... More

For this fourth visit at this amazing legendary palace, with our family joining, we decided to stay 14 nights. It was the longest stay in the same hotel we ever had. Believe me, it was too short! Words are not sufficient to describe the magic of the Oriental. From the moment you arrive and hear “welcome back home”, after a... More

This Hotel is just excellent. The breakfast time could be a bit longer (we are on vacation:-)))) but the rest is just like you expect from a good hotel. We had Dinner on the other side if the river and it was delicious. The building from the outside looks oldish but the service, the rooms and beds are excellent.

The Oriental has always been one of the best hotels. Perfect service and great location. However, this time I have noticed that the housekeeping has not been as good as in the past years... It's all been said - just a fantastic hotel. I had the unlucky pleasure of needing to use the on-site clinic. The nurse gave me some anti-nausea medication and electrolyte mix which helped me recover in short order. I likely got food poisoning in Cambodia - my previous location. I've never even thought about medical care when choosing a hotel.... More

Staying in Silom

Neighbourhood Profile
Silom
Despite the lack of any major tourist attractions, this lively neighborhood is a favorite of many. Whether it's the (somewhat naughty) nightlife of Soi Patpong, the various handicraft night markets or the plethora of dining options that tickle your fancy, a night out in Silom is a must on every itinerary. It's worth a stop during daytime, too: join office workers on a quest to tasty street food during lunch and shop at Silom Complex for a great mix of Thai and international stores. After a day of strolling around the congested sidewalks, a visit to Silom's Lumphini Park, Bangkok's answer to NYC's Central Park, is a welcome change of scenery.
