Absolutely baffled by the glowing reviews for this hotel. Stayed here for one night en route to the EBC trek, and simply couldn’t sleep all night. The hotel is located on Amrit Marg, which is a super busy street in Thamel. Nightclubs and bars surround this place, combined with the non-stop traffic sounds that continue till 4-5am! I was supposed to stay here on my return after the trek as well. When checking out after the first miserable night, I asked the Reception staff if I could get a more quiet room on my return, and their response - “Sir, all rooms are equally noisy because the street behind us is just as busy as well”. I canceled my reservation for the return and booked Hotel Mums instead - a small hotel in Thamel where I have stayed before. That’s in Thamel as well but on a very quiet street. Would not recommend Buddy hotel at all. The traffic noises ruined my sleep and I struggled on the first day of trekking as a result. Staff didn’t seem to care at all. Their restaurant and bakery are excellent, which is about the only saving grace. PS - I really resist writing poor reviews because families depend on business they get from TA recommendations, but in this case I feel compelled to let fellow travelers know of my experience and what they can expect.

I stayed for two weeks. What amazed me was the delicious food from Daawat Restaurant, serving piping hot the Indian Cuisine - the lip smacking punjabi Dal Makhani is unforgetable. None the less, the Chinese Restaurant is a class of its own, not just in terms of its ambience, but also in terms of spicy and delicious lip smacking cuisine. Overall, its worth every penny. By the way, I should not forget to appreciate the cordial and attentive service rendered by Staffs.

I stayed at the Hotel Buddy for two weeks in February as a solo traveler amongst a group of US citizens volunteering in Nepal. The hotel is a good value in the busy Thamel district of Kathmandu. The guest service was five-star with staff seeking to attend to all requests. Whether one wanted the television cable service rebooted in the room or help finding a guide and a Jeep for a weekend hike, the staff were ready to provide assistance. The dining room staff were equally accommodating with everything from making a spiced masala tea in the afternoon or a custom cake or menu for a private gathering in the restaurant on premises, the service was perfect. The guests were a lively mix of trekkers heading off to Base Camp on Mount Everest to traveling groups of friends, volunteers and business people, the atmosphere was inviting and the facilities clean. The hotel is walking distance to the Garden of Dreams, pedestrian shopping area, UNICEF and restaurants. Request a back - facing room if you need quiet as this neighborhood is alive and bustling in the evening. Their sister hotel has spa services next door - the Yatri Suites and Spa.
