Your journey begins with a special welcoming committee who greet you with a special white scarf. Then you are escorted into a cavernous dining hall for your orientation. The rooms are massive and my favorite of the 3 Amankora resorts we stayed at in Bhutan. Sangay and Lotay, our guide and driver for one week, were absolutely the best we have ever had! We shared an amazing amount of information, wisdom and fun! Our departure was also marked with a special travel blessing from a local monk. Overall, the most complete of our 3 adventures at Amankora in Bhutan!

My Amakora experience started with Amankora Thimphu, first was greeted by our lovely guide and drive, taking us on a 1.5hr car ride from the Paro airport to the hotel. Got a little motion sickness (I simply blame everything on the high altitude... 2600ish) although it was a windy road plus i didn't get proper rest the night before.
Welcomed with a lovely apple ginger tea that chased the fatigue and dizziness away.
Room was a little dark but i was out most of the time so it didn't bother me, fantastic living space as I had the room all to myself, take note that if you are sharing with someone, there's no curtain / doors for the shower, but the hotel can help put a temporary blind or something over it.
The most exciting thing about staying in an Aman is that you get to look forward to your Junkie aka your nightly turndown amenity. I've now got a fantastic collection!

it is located in the right area of capital. it is surrounded by a lovely park and is very quiet.
despite it offers less rooms than paro, the common areas are larger and
more luxurious (restaurant, lobby, terrace, shop). The luxury standards of Aman group are highly respected and the staff is really professional.
Its chef is the best of the 3 amankoras we visited. Food was obviously sublime in all locations but this chef is a runner up!

We had a fantastic stay at this majestic property set amongst woodlands high above the centre of Thimpu, the perfect escape from the city streets.
Our suite was everything I’d hoped for and more. The treatments were an exceptional standard and the entire team delivered a true Aman experience from start to finish.
A special thank you must go to Mongul for taking such great care of us and giving us plenty of background to life in Bhutan.

See part 1 at Aman Paro
Aman’s prioritisation of their guest comfort was impressed on us the day the king visited the property. We weren’t restricted in any part of the hotel (besides the library where the king was hosting dignitaries of course). We were treated with equal respect and was free to use any part of the property. This would never have been the case in anywhere else.
Our guide (Kesang) and driver (Uygeng) were experienced and reliable. We felt safe and attended to on the whole journey. As my partner and I are not in favour of an activities filled vacation, we cut out quite a lot of the sight seeing activities. I almost felt bad and slightly rude every time I had to turn down Kesang’s offer to show us those centuries old monasteries and Dzongs listed on our itineraries. Where we do agree to visit (like some of the iconic Dzong in Punakha), we didn’t stay very long.
We spent most of our time enjoying the room, the property and the environment that never fail to fascinate us. We took short walks around the properties surroundings. We particularly enjoyed the pool in Punakha. Although we had wish that the pool temperature could be a tad warmer ( just a couple of degrees), it would have been perfect. Nonetheless, I would say Punakha property was our favourite of the three.

If I could give more stars I would! It is not often one comes across a place which is almost perfect in every regard. A beautiful hotel whose architecture melds seamlessly with the surrounding area. The rooms are warm, clean, welcoming and spacious with views of the forest. A beguiling, peaceful and special place. The food is amazing and the service exemplary with our every ask catered to. Special thanks to Phuntsho, Kinley, Chimchi, Anton and all the team at Amankora! Katrinche La! Thank you for looking after us - we feel truly blessed to have been guests.

We visited Bhutan in December and stayed at the Amankora Paro and Thimphu. The properties were amazing and worked perfectly for our family for four (including two teenagers). The properties are stunning. The service was impeccable, and the guide and driver were awesome. We loved Bhutan and our experiences there. We saw archery (the national sport), paper making, and handicrafts, toured many temples and buildings, had a farm lunch at a Bhutanese house, took a helicopter to Bumdra to see the most amazing monastery and hike to Tiger's Nest, and took a hike to "wow." We also met with a monk to discuss Buddhism. It was a fabulous trip!

Truly excellent experience. As so often with Aman resorts, the highlight of our stay was the tender love and care shown by the staff. We would like to call out our excellent guide, Karma, who consistently went above and beyond the call of duty, and our driver Theshen. Both were resourceful, proactive and joyful.

Beautiful breathtaking place. Staff are wonderful and attentive. Lives up to the Aman expectations and some more. Love that the rooms are always done up when you leave for breakfast, or an outing. Personalised turn down service . Adds to the whole Bhutan experience

I had the pleasure of staying at two Amankora hotels last month, the Thimpu and the Paro. Without doubt it was a fantastic experience. My suite was huge and its design and decoration was very stylish, like the rest of the hotel.
The service was kind and attentive, almost too attentive. Beeing asked twice if everthing is all right is ok, but three or four times could be annoying. It is all about staying at the right side of the thin line. That said, most of the staff had a wonderful attitude.
The food at Amankora Thimpu was very good. One could easily eat too much since you can order as much as you like - everything is included in the room rate...which brings me to the huge drawback of this hotel - the price.
During my days at Amankora Thimpu i felt a bit like being part of a Scandinavian interior design magazine. I was surrounded of minimalistic wood constructions and white brick wall. Everything was quiet, no sounds of activity. Was I the only one there?
I understand that this sort of environment is a sort of luxory many would pay a lot for. But 1200 USD a night? For this price I would like a TV and free internet in my room, a good gym and a swimming pool. The Amankora offers nothing of this, with purpose I guess, but I think they should include it and let the guests decide whether they want to use it or not.
The price is way to high compared to what you will get elsewhere, both in Bhutan and in the rest of the world.
The Amankora hotels are a wonderful experience in many ways. The surroundings and the rooms are beautiful, but I nevertheless prefer a more personal touch. I was relaxed but also a bit bored.
PS. There is a pice of machinery in the basement/spa area that kept me awake most of the night. A thumping sound every tenth second. For 1200 USD a night a prefer to sleep undisturbed.

Avoid the monsoon period, June to September, with really heavy rainfall, that can exceed 5 meters per year. The best period to visit the country is late September to late November. Clear skies, very little rain. This is also the time for several of the dance festivals, e.g. in Thimpu and the time for black-necked cranes to arrive from Tibet. The second best time to visit Bhutan is spring, March to May. More clouds and more rain than in the autumn, but this is time for the blossoming of e.g. jakaranda, magnolias and so forth.
