The best part of this hotel is location, you can explore the clock-tower area or bars- restaurants by walking. The rooms were cleaned , well -maintained and there was a small balcony in my room. Front desk excutives were good . If you really wanna have your meal from this hotel i would tell you to have their pizza, it was really yummy. If you are fond of Indian food then a hotel named "A V hotel" is well known and the quality of food was good. Another restaurant you can have your meal from is" ZOMBALA 2", its more than awesome. Okay, if you love spicy food then Bhutan is a big disappointment in this matter, so don't believe in rumours. Let's talk about the service of the hotel, See-nya . when we went for sight-seeing we gave them room keys for cleaning. They cleaned properly ,they changed the towels, toilet papers . but the *important* thing i must tell you -- a tee-shirt of my elder sister got lost from the room.it was expensive. So whenever you will be going out make sure you carry the room key with you .

Hello Madam, Thank you for your review. We appreciate the review for the very reason that this happened for the first time since 2012 and now, we can highlight some don'ts to our future guests. Cutting to the chase, first, let me reiterate our rules for the rooms. Laundry is strictly prohibited in the room because we provide laundry amenities. We think that you missed the rule of the room and went ahead to do laundry. With all due respect, I would like to cite our side of the story too. It happened so- after doing the laundry you kept your clothes to dry on a chair in the balcony of room 202. During the housekeeping services for the room, we saw your muffler dangling by the bars of the balcony and looking further down, we then saw your knicker blown down to the hotel's basement. We collected all we could but it was only later that you informed one of our staff about your missing t-shirt. Meanwhile, after you left, exactly three days later our security guard found a white tee-shirt and we guessed it must be yours. We wanted to contact you but I guess you already left the country. The point is, it is clearly not theft. We have retained all our staff (housekeeping) since the launch of our hotel in 2012 and such a thing never happened. You may as well kindly scroll through the reviews, possibly there will be complaints about the services and sundry but never about theft. We feel that it is absolute fall-out. However, we dearly apologize to you as we know the sentiments of losing our belongings- be it cheap or expensive. Here's what we can do- let's get connected on WhatsApp (+97577160042) to arrange a way to send your t-shirt back. PS: We took longer to give a reply to your review as our TripAdvisor's account was with our former manager. It's only of late that we managed to get hold of our account. However, now on, you will receive instant answers to your reviews. Thank you very much.

This was a pleasant enough hotel, without being one of the best in Thimphu. However, the staff were excellent, so friendly and helpful and happy - even though most spoke a very limited amount of English. There was no lift, so a lot of stair climbing if you are on the top floor! Food was moderate, not international standard but OK - you will never get fat on it! The location was great - right in the city so easy to have a wander around by oneself. Rooms were large, with of lot of traditional wood furnishings but all normal facilities and really clean and tidy. As with most hotels in the city - you need ear plugs to cut out the dogs barking at night, Overall a decent place to stay.

Hello John, Thank you for your generous review. About the lift, I guess you got a humane opportunity to shed some calories. Jokes aside, you would have observed all the buildings are 5-6 storeys only and the need for a lift is not much felt. However, it's an expensive affair to install lifts, firstly lifts are not manufactured in Bhutan, buying one is a tedious job owing to transportation, and even if we install it, we don't get technicians if the lift needs repairing, that's another expensive affair. However, if we get reviews pouring about lifts, we might as well consider owning a lift. We have always cherished our hotel's location as it is in the loop of so many other touristic spots at a walking distance. And, for reiterating about the location, we deeply thank you. We wish you will choose us if you visit Thimphu, Bhutan again. We have improved a lot after your stay- unlimited English, more pleasantries and great international standard food. Thank you so much. We enjoyed your stay with us.

This was the 1st hotel we were booked at by our Tour Operator Yak Holidays Intl, for our 6 days 5 nights tour. We can easily say we were impressed with the staff first and foremost. They were so polite I cannot say enough, and not just one, all of them. We were offered lovely Masala Chai upon arrival, and they were so kind to make sure our guide who was with us to ensure a quick check-in, was also offered Tea and snacks. Staff took us to the room and ensured we were happy with everything and also got us an extension lead for ease of charging phones. The Staff in the Dining Room were also very good and prompt with food delivery. It is centrally located and you can take a walk around the town and shops. We wanted to purchase a few items, and our Yak Holidays guide, Tashi Wangchuk, helped us navigate to the right shop, his English and information were always spot on. The room was clean and we had a good sleep. There is WiFi, but like everywhere in Bhutan generally, it can get a bit scatty, sometimes you will get it in the rooms and other times only in Lobby Area. Definitely stay here.

Easily the most courteous and friendly staff I have come across in a hotel. The hotel manager takes pains to even serve as a waiter personally! Though a simple, neat and clean dwelling with no fancy amenities or pretensions, it is the utmost friendliness of staff that wins you over. Very good local cuisine too, In all, an excellent place to stay at very reasonable price.

Totally unacceptable, unless you like the smell of sewage in the bathroom which smell spreads to the bedroom and toilets that won’t flush. After the first night, we moved to another room. That room has a slightly less sewer/potty smell and again problems with the toilet. We literally would pour water into the toilet bowl when flushing---that helped. The room had only one roll of toilet paper and toilet paper rolls have very little actual paper on them so ask for a couple extra ones. No Kleenex. Beds were comfortable, staff was very attentive but this is a totally unacceptable hotel due to the terrible smell (and others in our group had the same issue so not just our room). Shops were within easy walking distance. Also, no wash clothes, no A/C and no window screens. The room safe was just sitting on the shelf and not attached to the closet. You literally could carry it about like a shoebox, seriously. Wifi was good. Directly across from our room was a trash and garbage filled lot. Nothing to do with the hotel, but what an eyesight to go with the stinking bathroom. Do not stay here, find somewhere else.

Response from Hotel S, General Manager at Hotel Ser-Nya
Responded 22 Nov 2016
Dear Guest, We thank you for taking the time to give us a review. We are totally concerned about any reviews, good and bad and more so when its bad, we take steps to correct it and called a meeting of our staff and asked them what happened. The house keeping staff said that at the time of check in, a guest complained about the toilet smell, so they immediately cleaned it again and sprayed lemon grass spray. Next morning when the same guest was asked if everything was okay, she said yes. Toilets and rooms are cleaned everyday and if guests find any fault, they ask the staff or the manager, and immediately it is rectified. If you were not happy, you could inform the staff or manager at the hotel, anyone would immediately rectify the situation to your satisfaction be it concerning your room or your dietary needs. Also you had two full time guides with you to whom you could have mentioned it and they inturn would inform us and we would rectify the situation immediately. The toilet paper rolls are the standard size for hotels in Bhutan and if guests run out of it, all they need to do is ask and it is replenished immediately or the next morning during room cleaning. The vacant lot which is 100 meters away,in front does not belong to the hotel, and it is something we wish would disappear but there is nothing to be done about it as it is not within our control. Perhaps a letter in this context written to the Tourism Council of Bhutan may bring us salvation. We have read the reviews you gave on other hotels in London and USA ,where the services and standards did not meet your expectations, therefore Bhutan, a developing third world country understandably would not be up to your very high standards. Generally tourists who travel to developing countries like Bhutan come with an open mind and they find that they enjoy the trip a whole lot better instead of using a microscope to pinpoint faults, which you may also find in 5-7 star rated hotels way above our standards. Tourism in Bhutan is different from other countries, hotel rooms and food and most tourism development and infrastructures are set standard , yet we do our best to provide a lot of variety and our room size and amenities are at par, if not better than the other hotels in our category in Bhutan. We do not provide Kleenex and wash clothes as you have mentioned, mainly in view of cutting down of trees and preserving the environment ,however, we will keep in mind your feed back and next time we will provide if a guest asks for it. Lastly if you are the same couple whose wife was not feeling well our general manager spent the morning personally accompanying you and her to the hospital and ensuring every possibility that she was doing fine. He also said that it was very likely a case of dehydration . Hope she is doing fine.
