We had come to see what is left of Sir Steward Gore-Brown’s famous Manor House. If one lives in Africa, it is not too difficult to imagine what vision, talent, perseverance and organizing skills were needed in order to establish an English country estate in the wild Africa so far from every road, harbour or railway station. For me the...

Historical, natural, fabulous. It is not a hotel, it is a real English castle in the heart of Africa and its history. Very pleasant to feel yourself a guest. And be treated as a guest. Very unusual experience!

This house, which played a key role in the history of Zambia, entertains its guests in the tradition of its early days, with generous and graceful hospitality. Our hosts Jo and Charles Harvey did their utmost to keep us busy, wined and dined us, and most importantly made us feel like house guests in their home. My daughter especially enjoyed...

You have read the book studied Wikipedia but nothing prepares you for a stay with Jo and Charlie; they have got good old fashioned style and make you so welcome but with the manners and habits of times past. It was a superb experience for our family group, my grandchildren had to really behave at table and we enjoyed the...

We stayed for two nights in the main mansion. Shiwa Ng'andu is a fabulous place to visit. Read up about its history and you will realise how amazing it is, even before you arrive there. Charlie and Jo were marvellous hosts and we felt part of the family. Everything about our stay was beyond our expectations and Shiwa has become...

What an extraordinary place and family! We stayed at Impandala Farm House, an idyllic setting, with its wide veranda overlooking the lake. Sitting there, watching the sun set over the water, was simply fantastic, as was the late afternoon walk round the edge of the lake, seeing wildebeest, Letchwe, red buck and Kudu, with egrets and turusco. The rooms are...

Anyone who has driven to Sun City will know what it is to gasp when something magnificent simply arises from the bush in front of your eyes. Shiwa Ngandu is a similar experience! Miles away from anywhere, an old Colonial Manor House suddenly looms into sight........You screw up your eyes and wonder if it is a mirage. We arrived after...

I stayed a couple of days at Impandala, farmhouese of the main Shiwa Mansion, in aug 2011. Shiwa Ngandu is a unique and astonishing settlement in Zambia. The main mansion is the evidence of human determination, tenacity and cleverness still evident in how Sir Gore Brown conceived and built it and how his heirs are managing and enhancing it. Impandala...

After a month-long road trip through Tanzania and Malawi, another couple, my husband, baby and I ended our vacation with a relaxing afternoon and evening at the Kapishya Hot Springs Lodge. We were planning on camping, but since it was the rainy season, the camping area was somewhat flooded. We could have camped anyway on a dry area, but we...

My wife and I were on on the road from Johannesburg to Serengeti and back in our Land Cruiser 4x4 from February to July 2010. Except for 3 nights we slept in our roof top tent in many camping sites in South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, Malawi & Tanzania. One of the nights we spent in a bed was in a...
