I spent three nights at Luwawa and couldn't speak more highly of it. George and Christine were so, so welcoming- being a lone traveller, they very kindly looked out for me, organised for someone to take me walking and sat down for an evening meal with me- lovely, lovely people! I stayed in the dorm room which is pretty basic... More

We camped here for 5 nights and had a fantastic time. George, the owner was welcoming, and so were the rest of the staff including the dog. Lots of marked walks around the forest, as well as activities you could book. Thoroughly recommend mountain biking and horse riding! The food was fantastic, dinner and breakfast recommended also! Facilities for camping... More

My husband and I spent 2 nights at Luwawa with hopes of hiking and canoeing one day. It rained almost the entire time so we decided to stay inside by the fire and read, or sit on the porch and bird. We stayed in one of the cottages (which actually can sleep 5 people) rather than camp because of the... More

Just stayed here for the second time. Lovely place in the forest with a huge lake. Owner George was very welcoming, as was Eunice in the kitchen and the smiling barman whose name I forget. Large comfortable rooms and home cooking.

I spend two day trips at luwawa during my time in Malawi and both occasions were wonderful. We did a orienteering day trip with maps around the forest which was beautiful, and we also took one of the kind, interesting guides on a walk to a waterfall which was stunning. the food was good and George the owner was really... Luwawa Forest Lodge is a beautiful spot, hard to get to but absolutely worth the effort. It is tucked away in acres of forest, close to a small lake, and provides everything you need for a great stay. We camped and loved the outdoor living facilities provided. Cosy dorm rooms and fancier group accommodation is also available - something for... More

My first 2 visits were on school trips which were great with the range of team building activities that they offer. I had a very short stay this time round for just a night in their "Avocado cottage". Beautiful English looking cottage although the taps and showers could use some fixing. Other than that it was so lovely and clean,... More

We only had one night here on our way from the Nyika Plateau to Lilongwe but wished we could have stayed longer to explore! We left later than intended so that we could enjoy the surrounds, some of our family group took the lodge's kyaks out on the lake while others went for a walk. The accommodation was very good,... Spent two nights at Luwawa and enjoyed an early morning bird walk with the extremely knowledgeable guide Patrick, archery, canoeing on the lake, and sun-downers with incredible views. We stayed in one of the cottages which was good and had nice outside space; the food at the lodge was good and the staff were really helpful and attentive. The evenings... More

From the self catering family cottages, double rooms, dorm, camping the place has options for all budgets. I have been there a couple times and camp both times but had friends stay all the other type of accommodations. The cottage are definitely a step above the rest with their own fireplace and kitchen. You can rent bicycles to trek around... More

“Ask for the cottage if available when booking. Booking takes time with calls generally not possible to the 3 numbers given and emails not replied too. If it is raining take care with a small car on the access road in as it is very muddy in places (especially if a timber truck has been through). There are mosquitoes too so use the net and bring spray for the room.”
