We had a fabulous 2-night stay at Serengeti Tortilis Camp!

We felt comfortable and cared for from the moment we arrived. The staff greeted us with fresh wash cloths and cold Hibiscus juice - which was wonderful after driving around the dusty roads all day.

Ilia took our bags and escorted us to our spacious, well-equipped tents. During our time at Tortilis, Ilia was always nearby, with a huge smile, and ready to escort us to the restaurant, to the evening fire and back to our tents. He always knew which animals were around and who was lurking at night. Our first night we had several buffalo snacking around our tent and there were monkeys in the trees. We saw all their footprints the next morning. The second night we heard the roar of lions but were assured that even though they sounded very close they were actually quite far away.

The tents are a sturdy canvas with strong zippers. We never felt uncomfortable - but if we did we were given a whistle and walkie talkies and were assured someone was available 24/7. It was exciting sleeping in the middle of the Serengeti. Inside, the tents were very spacious. The bedding was beautiful and the mattresses were super comfortable. Everything was very clean. The only thing that pulled me out of bed was the gorgeous sunrise over the Serengeti - something I will never forget.

We had many offerings for breakfast, including made-to-order eggs. Our box lunches were huge and packed with a variety of snacks. Joseph, the chef, prepared wonderful dinners for us each evening. My favorite was the beef stew with warm rolls and rice. We had fresh fruit for dessert. The waiters were exceptionally friendly and made sure we had everything we needed.

After dinner the manager and the entire staff performed a song and dance for the dining room that got us all laughing and clapping. A wonderful way to end our evening.

I stayed at Tortilis for the location. I will return for the staff!

This is what we came on safari for - to get right away from civilisation and to be totally amongst the wild life and environment. Tortilis camp has no fences around it, but one always felt safe being escorted to and from one's tent after dark. Our tent, 'Chui' - Kaswahili for Leopard, had 4 very spacious rooms, beginning with a lounge area with a sofa and coffee table from which one could enjoy the afternoon sun. The bedroom and double bed were huge and very comfortable. The next room had a single bed in it and behind that was another large room which contained a separate shower, separate basin area and a separate flush toilet. One nominated when one wanted a shower and there was plenty of hot water when needed. The 'Water House' bar was well stocked and the food in the dining room adjoining tent was delicious. A wonderful, rustic and authentic experience of Africa.

My wife and I went to Tanzania for our honeymoon and our stay at the Serengeti Tortilis camp was one of our highlights. We stayed at a variety of accommodation throughout our two weeks, but the world class service of Tortilis camp was by far the best We had experienced.

The staff went above and beyond our expectations to make sure that we would never forget our trip. And we will definitely be back as well.

The facilities were excellent. We had a great time staying at the glamorous tents and the food was always excellent. Even the lunches packed for us during our game drives were delicious.

We were always greeted with a refreshing glass of fresh juice and a wet towel on our return.

I will never forget our friend the lion who would roam the area at nights. Definitely added to the experience of Africa!

Their staff is also the best at singing the Hakuna matata song!

Serengeti Tortillis far exceeded our expectations. We knew from the reviews that it was going to be lovely, but we were still shocked. Yes the walls are canvas, but other than that it might as well be a villa cottage. There are real beds, the tent equivalent of a screened-in porch, electricity, hot water showers on request, wifi that was better than some of what we got in town, and personable, caring staff. We were for 3 nights during our honeymoon - our room was specially decorated for it and a private bush dinner had been arranged for us, which was such a unique way to celebrate. Godfrey and the rest of the staff take a personal interest in the guests' experience. There's singing, fun, and they all seem to truly enjoy what they do. The food was great, though there was a little redundancy in the sauces used. The kitchen staff was kind enough to allow us backstage to see how things work for them in the bush, and even made us a special plate of ugali when they found out I had been wanting to try it. The location was phenomenal and overall we couldn't have imagined anything better.

This was our second stay in Serengeti. We roamed around the whole day while taking a short break for lunch at Nabi hills that day and reached here by evening 7.

Got a nice welcome drink and a welcome song. One of our gangsters had been here earlier and was his second time. So they had a welcome cake well which was truly special.

The tents were spread out nicely and had good privacy. We checked into our tents pretty quickly and this place was very comfortable. Our tent had a nice couch, two comfortable beds with mosquito nets, a small dressing room, separate washroom and bathroom.

Shower was awesome with nice fresh water. The shower is connected to a main pipe and hot water is available at a predefined time with good pressure. Trust me this is a great luxury which you will realise when you stay in other places where the water is very hard with no water pressure.

The place has separate tents for guests common area, a nice bar and a separate dining area. Food was pretty nice. The packed food that we took for our game drive was also good.

The staff were very courteous and was very helpful. Its was a great experience indeed.

Tortillis Tent Camp was by far the best lodging we had durring our safari. Not to mention very affordable compared to other camps. But don't let the price fool you, everything was perfect. The food was incredible followed by classic African song and dance from the staff. The tents were top notch as well, having a front private sitting area, then a large room with desk and king size comfortable mattress, and lastly a very large bathroom area with a vanity. The decor is upscale safari and the service is incredible.

The camp is set up so that all tents have front row seat for a Serengeti sunset, or you can go to there lounge within the camp that makes you feel like you are stepping back in time to a classic safari, all the while having great amenities and service.

Cant say enough great things. Next safari, our entire trip will be spent here.

As all of these reviews say, the staff at this camp, as well as the other Tortilis locations were excellent. They were helpful, friendly, and eager to chat and share experiences all while seeming to genuinely enjoy themselves.
The accommodations were incredible - probably nicer than most hotel rooms you're used to staying in - with a king-sized bed, rain shower with hot water, and a normal flushing toilet + sink. Amenities such as soap and shampoo/conditioner were also provided.
Our favorite part of every evening was sitting by the campfire before dinner with a glass of wine, chatting with the staff (mostly from the local Maasai tribes) about their personal lives and experiences.
The food was also fantastic each day. A nice breakfast was provided each morning (including fresh eggs/omelettes), an option of boxed or hot lunch was available for your game drives, and a 3 course meal was provided every evening (with many vegetarian options inc. soup, pasta, and mixed veggies).
The Tortilis brand were definitely the best camps during our 7 day trip!

We have stayed there as a family of four, with two boys aged 5 and 7.
What an incredible experience did this camp offer us! As soon as the Jeep parked, we were greeted by the camp’s crew with so many smiles and a refreshing towel.
Besides the fact that the lodge was clean and beautiful, that the food was abundant and delicious, the crew members themselves hosted us with such compassion and dedication ensuring that we were enjoying our time in Serengeti and that all our needs were met.
We had hot water upon request and were able to refresh at night in preparation for the following day’s safari journey. We spent two nights in total with a break in between the nights to follow the great migration up north. When we had come back, we were welcomed again as if it was our home and it was so heart warming.
The crew was genuinely happy to have and host us, we were treated to a wonderful performance by the team members and a heart warming speech about their joy of having us stay with them. We are very grateful for the hospitality and the kindness we received and we are certainly booking there again when we come back to central Serengeti.
Many many thanks from our family, to all of you.

We had a very nice stay at the Tortilis Camp. Paul and his team made us feel very welcome, and it was easy to relax after a long day on the trails.
We had not stayed at a Tortilis camp previously and the setup is really cool if you are looking to change up cabins/rooms or even other tent styles. The tents are substantial inside with multiple rooms. Very good ventilation if you want to keep your tent “open” at night, with multiple layers to keep out bugs.
As with all camps in the big Parks there are often large animals present or near the camp. The Team here provided us with a walkie talkie to check in when we were leaving the tent at dusk, dawn, or in darkness. It is for your own safety to check in and get an escort, because the staff is very familiar with the grounds and protocols if there are any issues. This was one of the better systems we experienced.
Food was excellent. The camp eats in a common tent (similar to a horse in camp) with tables. It is common practice here to eat with your driver. If you have not had time to get to know your driver this is could be a good time. Remember that you are deep within the park. If you have ANY food limitations you need to take care of them way before your trip. The cooks were very accommodating but they need to make some meals in large batches and they end up in lunch boxes — so don’t get upset if you see chicken for dinner and then again, cold, at lunch. Plus the leftovers are great. This was probably the best lunch box we had in 6 days on safari.
The only other part of the stay that may be a bit different is hot showers, it’s a bit vague when you read about it online. They use green energy to power the water heaters, and have to turn the water heater on just before you shower. You might want to be a bit strategic about when you take your hot shower because you need to schedule it in advance. We had no issues and plenty of hot (very hot if you wanted) water for the shower.
Overall this was a great location, and we were lucky enough to see buffalo and elephants on our way into and out of camp on multiple days. There were also lions relatively close by both nights. If you have the opportunity to start early from this camp (sunup) the animals tend to be super active in the morning and it may be a good chance to catch some smaller groups before hitting the larger game drives.

Thank you very much, we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us. We are also so glad that you enjoyed the food, as our teams take great care over its preparation. We can cater for so many different dietary needs, but you are correct to say that we need a bit of advance notice to make sure. There is always hot water for our guests, but we just need a few minutes' notice to make it happen - this is out in the wilderness, after all! Kind regards The Team at Serengeti Tortilis Camps

After just one night staying at this lodge, we already felt like family! We were welcomed after our long day in the bush with an appreciated spray down of bug spray, a refreshing drink and walk around the lodge. The staff were so friendly, always wanting to hear the stories of our day and never minding when we called for an escort after dark! Dinner time was always joyous and the food was warm, hearty, and tasty. Some nights even included song and dance! Listening to the lions as we fell asleep was one of our favorite parts of our three night stay. What an experience to be out in the Serengeti with the wildlife. Some mornings we would awake to Buffalo grazing next to camp and we saw the most beautiful sunrises. We never felt worried but always felt in harmony with the animals —thanks to the comfort and care provided at Tortilis! We can’t wait to come stay again.
