My wife and I expected to make some compromise in the accommodation and service to be close to the remote location of the Mara River wildebeast crossings in August. The location overlooking the river was wonderful and we were surprised and delighted by the superb en suite 'room', the very good food and marvellous friendly and efficient service provided by manager... I have been wanting to come to East Africa since I was a child, and I finally made it. After years of dreaming and planning, I was a little worried that I might have built it up too much in my own mind. That was not the case. Kenneth, David and all of the staff at Olakira Mara were so... More

We feel very fortunate to have spent three nights at this outstanding camp. We are a family of four and the teenagers loved it every bit as much as the parents. The wildlife viewing was everything we could possibly have hoped for - the highlight was watching a family of lion cubs playing just after they had fed as the... More

This camp is absolutely amazing! The staff provided outstanding service, and ensured our time there was nothing short of luxurious. Our tent was beautifully decorated and quite large for my husband and me with the front porch; day room with day bed, chair and table; bedroom and desk area; and finally closet and bathroom area. It felt more like a... More

Spending 2 days with Gorillas in Rwanda is a hard act to follow, but Kenneth, Ely (our guide on the Serengeti), David, Keratu, Vincent, John (our chef) and the guys that did my laundry (bless them) made our time on the Serengeti equally as special. Considering the camp moves with the Wildebeest, the amenities exceeded all my expectations. The tents... More

I went with my wife and two teenagers. We are not campers and this was our first time. Hot water, flushable toilets and large tents were hardly camping. This was totally fine with us. The tents are probably as nice as you'll have anywhere. We spent 2 nights there. The camp was located right at the river crossing and felt... More

What an amazing place to stay in the Serengeti! Pleasantly surprised with how beautiful and clean the accomodations were. Staff was the greatest we came across on our entire trip - especially Anna! We were greeted on our first day with singing, cool towels, and delicious hibiscus tea upon arrival. Food was fantastic and the campfires each night we a... More

Wonderful staff looked after our every need. Our guide gave as a very professional wildlife experience, guiding us into great positions to see crossings and enjoy grand viewing of the animals. Our tent was very spacious and comfortable with all conveniences.

I was great, I have been to Olakira in the south a couple of times I total forgot that the camp moved north, it was such a great surprise for me to arrive up there on the Mara river just in time for the first crossing of the year. Anna the camp Manger was great, and did extra stuff for... More

We were here for the migration, and we certainly witnessed it! Saw several crossings, the best of which was just in front of the camp during lunch! When a crossing looks like it might happen staff call the guides back and you're down at the river in minutes!!! We had the added bonus that there were hardly any other vehicles... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Immerse yourself in the Great Migration at Olakira Migration Camp. You will feel the earth vibrate during brave winter crossings of the mighty rivers in the north, or be moved beyond measure by the mass summer calving on the south's grassy plains. Olakira follows the massive herds of wildebeest to two spectacular locations in the north and south of the Serengeti National Park. Home from December to March is the southern Serengeti, where herds of wildebeest calve simultaneously and the plains throng with new life. As the dry days of winter arrive, Olakira relocates north to the confluence of the Mara and Bolongonja rivers for spectacular game viewing at the Mara River itself and around the Lamai Wedge. ... more   less
