We just returned from a two week safari in Kenya and Tanzania; it was our second safari, but the first time we only went to camps in Kenya, so Tanzania was a new experience. During this year's trip, we stayed in a total of 5 tent camps and one lodge, and, without a doubt, Olakira was the most fabulous in... More

We stayed here for the final 3 days of our safari; our TO had said they wanted us to finish on a "high note" and we definitely weren't disappointed. This is a very small camp, with only 8 tents, which allows for very personal service. The camp is located within sight of the Mara River, which is really interesting as... More

My first experience in Africa, in the Serengeti, in a tent camp, all rolled into one, and it was a most delightful, exciting adventure. The staff was gracious, upbeat, and attentive; the accomodations far more comfortable than I had imagined - including a real bed and full bathroom with shower; and the view from our tent of the Mara river... Three nights at Olakira Lamai was the perfect ending to our African adventure, with everything we hoped for and much more. All the staff were friendly and professional. The meals were varied and invariably delicious. Our two tents were roomy and comfortable with gripping views of the savannah, migration and distant hills from our opening. The variety and closeness to... More

We stayed at Olakira one night and at Sayari (more upscale) one night. We think the view from Olakira tops Sayari's. You can see the Mara river from your tent! The camp was very beautiful - nicely set out with a Hemingway feel. Much more like camping - but with all the things you need.... a very comfortable bed, hot... More

Read the review "Olakira was fantastic" by SallyF240741. Ditto. We had a fabulous time. We loved the camp. The tents were excellent. The food and the staff were fabulous. The draw to this seasonal camp is the proximity to the Mara River and the wildebeest crossing. We did get to see a crossing, but that is really dependent on the... More

Tented camp that isn't OTT. Just gorgeous. (Hardly camping with flushing loos.) Hot water delivered promptly on request for showers. The food was great and plenty of choice. Excellent guides. Great crossings. We saw 4 in 2 days. Would go back again & also looking forward to one day going to their southern camp in the early part of the... More

We traveled to Northern Tanzania early August 2013 on a trip organized by my in-laws. There were 6 adults and our two children, 10 and 7. We had already visited Tarangire and the Crater before Serengeti. We flew from near the Crater at Laka Manyara to the airstrip at Kogatendi, an easy 1h 15 min flight with great views from... More

We stayed at Olakira by booking through Roy Safari of Arusha, Tanzania. We had a fantastic time spending four days seeing all animals: Lions, Leopards, Cheetahs, Elephants, Zebras, Wildebeest, Giraffe, Crocodiles, Vultures, Eagles, Black Rhino, Hippos, dozens of birds and we saw two crossings of the Mara river by Wildebeest and Zebras. The tents are luxury accommodations! You have a... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Immerse yourself in the Great Migration at Olakira Migration Camp. You will feel the earth vibrate during brave winter crossings of the mighty rivers in the north, or be moved beyond measure by the mass summer calving on the south's grassy plains. Olakira follows the massive herds of wildebeest to two spectacular locations in the north and south of the Serengeti National Park. Home from December to March is the southern Serengeti, where herds of wildebeest calve simultaneously and the plains throng with new life. As the dry days of winter arrive, Olakira relocates north to the confluence of the Mara and Bolongonja rivers for spectacular game viewing at the Mara River itself and around the Lamai Wedge. ... more   less
