We booked a junior suite, and paid 300$. The other hotels we stayed in ranged from 50$ - 150$, and I was expecting a beautiful, clean, comfortable and luxurious hotel.
To cut a long story short, this was the worst hotel in our entire trip. It was dirty and run down. It is located on the main road, has a dingy lobby, and a tiny pool (the size of a bathtub).
The room looks like a bordello from the 70s, with old curtains to hide dirty walls, and velvet cloths on every table.
The shower faucet was stuck, and splashed everywhere, so the bathroom had puddles on the floor. The shampoo containers were half full, and were not enough for three people to use. The toilet seat was detached from its base.
There were no English channels on the TV.
The windows were not sealed well and noise from the street starting at 05:30 m was so loud, we could not sleep.
When we went up to the roof terrace for breakfast, we found it dirty, with coffee stains on the chairs, and bird dropping on the floor. The breakfast was extremely disappointing. It had the least selection of food from all the hotels we stayed in Morocco (even the cheap ones). The pastries were cold, and when I asked the waiter to heat them up, he stuck them in the microwave for 1 minute. The bread was stale and hard, and was obviously bought the day before.
When checking out, we told the person at the front desk how we felt about our stay, including all the above, and all she had to say was that no one else ever complained.
This hotel is not more than a hostel. If you go there, don’t expect more, and decently do not pay more than you would for a 2 star hotel
I would like to mention the two good things about the hotel –
1. The room was very big.
2. Our flight was late in the evening, and we left our luggage at the hotel during the day. When we came in the evening to take our bags, they gave us a room to get organized for our flight
If you are a vegetarian , ask explicitly. For some reason chicken and fish are considered vegetarian.
There was some snafu about our booking which was strange.
Wish there was more attention to details. Small things- for example u take a shower and the floor gets wet, they dont have a notion of bath curtain. The floors are stone or similar so can get slippery. The location of the light switches was not intuitive/consistent.
At the right price I would recommend it.
The courtyard and our bedroom were both beautifully appointed and we had such a gorgeous tiled bath. The bed was really comfortable and the air conditioning was excellent (because we actually had it on for a while. In February!)
We also loved the rooftop which had loads of blooming flowers. Here we ate breakfasts of delicious Moroccan breads, pastries, and cooked-to-order omelettes. This was also a great destination for lunch after a morning roaming around the souks (try the Pastillas!) and a relaxing spot for a nightcap after an evening in the square.
The staff here is exceptional, very friendly and helpful. Definitely a highly recommended place to stay in Marrakech!
