Nice lodge right next to the river. The buildings are a bit worn out, but the location is amazing! You can jump in the river or simply enjoy the rock pools next to the lodge. We had a double room and went to sleep with the sound of the rapids since there were no windows (screens though against the musquitos). Food is a bit expensive though, for dinner there is just 1 meat and 1 vegetarian meal, which is more like a home-cooked meal and costs $9. That felt like a bit much, even considering the lodge being a bit far away but especially given there were no other choices (there are with lunch). Also charges for water.
Nice owner, relax vibe and there is a dog that barks when you arrive but you're not bothered during the night.

Came here for a couple of nights to escape Utila as I hadn't enjoyed my time there. And I'm so glad I did! The lodge is stunning and the views over the valley need to be seen to be believed. It really is what it says on the tin, a beautiful lodge nestled in the middle of the jungle and overlooking the rapids. There are natural rock pools out the back of the lodge which look directly down the valley, and you can also cliff jump from these pools down into the river.
The lodge itself is very spacious and has a great communal area, as well as a lovely owner who speaks perfect English. For any wildlife lovers we saw macaws, bull frogs, stick insects, LOTS of frogs etc.
The rafting experience was one of the highlights of my travels so far. The guide was incredible and balanced safety and fun perfectly. We spent the first hour canyoning up river, swimming across rapids and climbing/jumping off rocks. We then floated back downstream to where the rafting boat was waiting. The rafting then took us down a series of rapids class 1 - 4. Definitely an adrenaline rush and so much fun! In the afternoon I went for a hike round the Pico bonito national park, which is walking distance and only 8 dollars to enter.

All in all it was an amazing detour into the jungle and a very memorable day.

Our stay at the jungle River lodge was really cool. The rafting was the fantastic even with jumps in the river By a really cool guy. The other day we went hiking in the forests, also a great experience. We would recommend it without a doubt. The food was also great in the evening and the view over the River with flying tucans from the Jungle is Just amazing.

We found this Lodge on Hostelworld and paid 12$ (now it's 17$) for the night in the dormitories.

This place is truly beautiful, it is in front of the river where you can swim, and the visitor center of Pico Bonito Park is easily reachable.

The dorms were ok. There was really enough place and some lockers were present, yet the dorms were wet, very dark, electricity was missing for some lights, and there was no soap in the bathroom.

The real problem was the owner, which was opportunistic and dishonest.

In our case, we arrived with enough food and water for hiking two days in the park. The owner tried to manipulate us by saying that food was not allowed, that we were in a lodge (not an hostel), and that it was not possible to pay employees if we did not order food. This information was not present on our reservation made on Hostelworld, where it was only indicated that food was offered on-site.
The prices were, for example, 5$ the desayuno and 8$ the cena (an usual Honduran cena that costs 4-5$ everywhere else in Honduras).
In brief, the owner attracted us with cheap prices and then tried to force an all-inclusive policy, strongly increasing the price of stay.

Finally, at the end of our stay the bill was higher than expected, as the owner rose the prices of the night in dorms (from 12$ to 17$) after our reservation. We had to negociate for paying the right price, and we were still played as we did not see a random overtax of 2$ on each cena.

Stayed here for night and i will definately come back and stay a little bit longer. Has an incredible view of the river not only from the bar but from my room😍😍.
Cathy was very nice to us. We liked the food, the bar had many options including home made Guiffitti.

Fully recommended.

During a canopy tour, after failing to connect the safety equipment from being in a hurry to take the next group, the employee plunged to the bottom hitting the ground like a rag doll. At the same time,my wife, connected to the chord and pushed off the ledge by the employee, her life dangled a hundred feet in the air above the canyon. While screaming for her life, she noticed that the manager who had seen her life in danger, was out at the bar. Rather than helping save her life, he turned the music up at the bar so that his guests wouldn't see her screaming or plunge to her death in the canyon. After 20 minutes, I couldn't see her and the screaming ceased...I thought she was dead and wondered how I would explain her death to our son. After being rescued from a heroic employee and brought to the cliff in safety, the same employee, than came back and saved me as I found my wife was still alive.

After the terrifying experience and being shaken up, we than asked the manager for a refund and wondered why he did nothing to save the life of his customer. His response was "Why should the lodge suffer, these things happen".

This was our family vacation adventure experience at the Jungle River Lodge and was very diasppointed in the manager. The one guide was a true hero as he saved both me and my wife. I'll never forget what he did...and what the manager did.

Food is highly over priced and chinsy amounts. We stayed for 2 days and felt like we were at fat camp.
Bring your own provisions,

The owner is sketchy and does not talk to the guests, along with the all male staff who were if anything too friendly giving off a sleezy cash hungry vibe the place had a weird feeling about it. If you decided to stay one night is enough catch the chicken bus from la ceiba it goes by there every hour for 1 dollar rather than a 20 $ cab

There used to be a monkey but he ran away go figure

The national park is a good hike but wildlife is nowhere to be seen a couple of native birds on the river but no toucans on our trip

At check out expect to be hit with a 16% sales tax on your already over priced bill
Oddly enough we didn't see this sales tax high jacking anywhere else on our 1 month in Honduras

We read about the Jungle River Lodge on many backpacker websites and also read about them through a few reviews on our hotel.
The Jungle River Lodge is not so much as a lodge but I would say it reminds of a cabin or camp. If your the kind of person who likes to get close to nature this is the place for you. The rooms are not the Hilton, they are basic. They have many bunks in a large room for backpackers to hang out or you can ask for one of their private rooms. 2 beds, shower, sink and toilet. Yes things leak but thats okay.
Oscar (owner) is a wonderful person. You can see that he works so well with his team. His guides are very knowledgeable.
We did a hike in Pico Bonito Park up to a beautiful waterfall. Breathtaking, all the way our guide Rankin showed us different plants and plants that can be used for all different things like soap, medicine and even eating.
After our hink we did the ZipLines. Another amazing experience! We had our 7 year old and at no point felt unsafe. Our son just loved it. Rankin had our son attached to him.
They also have other tours you can do. White water rafting on the Cangrejal River and many others. Check out their website.
We stayed the night. For lighting they have candles everywhere.
It was so cool. Even down to the music Oscar plays was perfect. The food was incredable! We chatted with many packpackers from all over the world and their adventures. I wish me and my husband did that when we were young!
All and all we just loved this place!

The rafting was fun, with well trained guides and beautiful scenery. Definitely for beginners, though we enjoyed it a lot.
But damn, the rest of the business is a disaster. They aren't reliable, helpful, or friendly to say the least. Don't expect wifi or hot showers, it might be advertised but it doesn't exist. The manager is lazy and forgetful, we got the sheets for our bed at 8 in the night after having to ask a few times, we arrived at nine that morning and he said the sheets would be there right away.
They make a lot of extra money by being the only place to buy food, they don't have a kitchen or anything so they expect you to pay whatever they ask for a meal, we however brought some easy to prepare food with us. There was no end to them asking if we would be buying a lunch or dinner or something. It was awkward really.
Finally the worst bit was that they arrange free transport to and from la Ceiba, and having asked the night before they said we would be able to leave the Lodge at 8 to be sure to make the 9:30 ferry to Utila. They don't work with reliable drivers, and the manager kept saying it wasn't his problem when the cab still wasn't there around 9. Also we'd seen an advertisement of theirs that they offer free pickup to the docks too, the manager said no that it would cost us an extra $10 for take us there (normally a $4 taxi ride for 2 people).

All in all this place needs some serious help in the Lodge part of the business. They lie in their ads, and their manager is lazy and doesn't care about anything but your money.
