My daughter and I stayed on the River side of Hotel Rio for a week and loved our experience exploring the Cangrejal River Valley from there. We took advantage of the easy access to the river and beautiful natural swimming holes a 1 minute walk from the house. We hiked beautiful well maintained private trails on the jungle side of the property that had little waterfalls and vistas. We took a short walk to the 400 foot hanging bridge that swayed high over the Cangrejal River. We also got to visit the Chocolate Factory across the street and sampled some of the best tasting chocolate that I have ever had! We grocery shopped in La Ceiba in advance and appreciated the flexibility to make our own meals, occasionally visiting other hotels and restaurants in the area when we wanted. The small family living below were tremendously warm, friendly and helpful as was Pepe. My personal favorite - Sitting on the deck in the mornings and at sunset with views of the El Bejuco waterfalls. Saw my first toucan in the wild too. The high ceiling covered area allows you to still enjoy the deck during jungle rainstorms! We will be back.

Best place to stay in Río Cangrejal! The views are great, you can spot tucans and other locals birds from the terrace each day, the staff is friendly and there to help with anything you would need, they have some of the most experienced river rafting guides in the area and always put safety first, they have a restaurant (open on weekends) with a pool that have a fantastic view to the mountain and waterfall, the beds are comfy and kitchen has everything you need, if you want to cook. I would definitely recommend staying here if you visit Río Cangrejal or want to do some rafting.

We stayed at Hotel Rio last month and had a great time. Pepe is a warm and generous host with a wealth of local knowledge and contacts. He can make or help you make arrangements for the various activities that can be enjoyed in the area. We enjoyed a river rafting experience he organised for us as well as a trip to the Cayos Cochinos islands. He also helped arrange transport from San Pedro Sula to La Ceiba and advised us on where to stay in La Ceiba on the night of our late arrival.
The decor of the rooms is a bit spartan but they are spacious and well-furnished with free wifi and ample hot water. We thought we would need air-conditioning and Pepe gave us free access to ac accommodation but it turned out that the non-ac rooms were quite cool at night especially with the fans on.
Walter and his family take care of the guests and he is a cheerful and responsive young man, always available to take care of your needs (have Google Translate available if you don't speak much Spanish).

I stayed in the mountainside accommodation in Hotel Rio with incredible views of Pico Bonito National Park, it was captivating. Pepe, the owner is a wonderful and fascinating host that cares about the environment. Our tours were all organised by Hotel Rio from hiking, kayaking and chocolate factory. Enjoying the adventufres as well as the noises of nature made this a superb place to spend a few days. Highly recommend!

We had a very enjoyable weekend at the Hotel Rio as guests start to return post reopening. Don Pepe made a point of greeting us personally despite having had a busy day since the President had been visiting a few hours earlier - Don Pepe is a very active leader in the community.
Wonderful views, great local information, help arranging transport, good prices on tours and rafting, a good 1 hour walk right there in the property and the best access to the river in town. Walter, who manages the site, was always attentive and helpful.
Superb value and highly recommend!

Pepe who is the owner of Hotel Io was amazing. He personally picked us up from the Roatan Ferry and drove us to the property. He then upgraded us to the River house suite free of charge. He went out of his way to help us find a shuttle to San Pedro. The River house is beautiful. The waterfall hike and rafting tours were so fun. I would stay here again

We, a family of 5, stayed at the River House. What an amazing and unique place, we did not want to leave! The house has a huge veranda with a spectacular view of the jungle. We spent a lot of time relaxing there, reading a book, playing games! The inside of the house is spacious, the rooms and bathrooms were clean and comfortable. The property manager, Walter, was the best! Always helpful, always smiling. Thank you dor an amazing stay! We will be back!

A true nature paradise with Views of the bejuco fall and the tropic rainforest, you will get the best views from the Restaurant and Bar area, it almost feels like you can touch the mountains. Great local cuisine, incredible prices. We took the river rafting among other activities. The owner is a well-known conservationist and founder of the National Park in the area. Left wanting to stay longer, definitely will come back soon.

I came to Hotel Rio with a few of my friends for dinner and we arrived before the sun went down. The view of the mountains was incredible and we enjoyed watching the birds fly through the rainforest canopy. The restaurant had a tranquil vibe and was extremely clean with a friendly staff that made us feel welcome. We all enjoyed our food. The quesadillas were excellent and a topic of conversation later on in the evening. I definitely recommend this place for anyone who enjoys nature, being comfortable, and eating delicious food.

We stayed at Hotel Rió for 3 nights last weekend. We rented a two bedroom room as we were two couples traveling and our stay there was great. The room was very clean and the beds very comfortable. The hotel staff was very welcoming and friendly. Edward was especially helpful and a big part of why our stay was so great. He went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. I met the owner Pepe once and communicated via what’s app before our stay and he is a very nice man who lived in Colorado many years so he is a fluent English speaker which is great for those who aren’t bilingual. The food was good but what will take your breath away is the view. Rio Cangrejal and Pico Bonito are stunning and I can’t recommend it more. I saw the biggest butterfly I have ever seen and Pelicans 😍. If you visit La Ceiba make sure you go to Cayos Cochinos as that was such a great experience. Tours leave out of Sambo Creek which is about 45 min from Hotel Rió and a boat takes you to the islands. I have never seen clearer water anywhere and snorkeling was amazing.
