My experience at Villas Pico Bonito was exceptional; I only wish I’d been able to stay longer. I am a 54 year old woman who was traveling alone in Honduras and the owner and staff went above and beyond to create a safe, welcoming experience. They even assisted me when I lost my phone in a cab (I got it back!) I can’t say enough about how wonderful Orlando was (he drove me to the airport and to an ATM.) My room was PRISTINE and the location is breathtaking.
Lastly, I’ve traveled to Honduras alone twice and have only been treated with kindness by the Honduran people…take sensible precautions (as with any travel) and it’s an incredible country to visit - gorgeous unspoiled beaches and rainforests…and the warmest people I’ve ever met.

Resort was absolutely wonderful. The accommodations were very spacious. Richard, the owner/manager was very accommodating. He booked all of our trips, transportation and gave us good advice on what to do. We did a lot of hiking, visited the chocolate factory and the national park which were all within walking distance. The staff was nice and the food excellent and very reasonable. We sat by the infinity pool every evening and watched toucans fly over. The resort is right on the river so you hear the river flowing and it overlooks the waterfall. Absolutely idyllic. The grounds are like being in a botanic garden and hummingbirds are everywhere. The resort is not air-conditioned, the restaurant is open air, and there’s a lot of walking on uneven pathways. You need good mobility to be able to fully enjoy the area. I highly recommend hikes in the national park, trip to out island, mangrove kayaking and visit to chocolate factory. I was very impressed with taxis. Very prompt and nice vehicles. Resort is about hour out of La Ceiba. Dirt road and 20 miles an hour but very scenic. I felt very safe. We were about three hours in customs and immigration, but the baggage scanner had broken. Everybody was nice and helpful. I wish I could speak Spanish. Many people did speak English. If you’re looking for back to nature experience, this is a nice place to go. I live on Cayman Brac in the winters and friends wanted to get off this island for school break. Since Cayman Airways has a direct flight, it was a great trip!

The property is absolutely stunning and well maintained. There are lots of well maintained walking paths to see the property. You can tell the layout is well thought out and manicured.
Richard the owner was graciously available via email and WhatsApp to answer questions in English. We only had one fluent Spanish speaker in our group so that was so helpful to be easily connected to info.
The onsite staff was gracious and patient with us and our language barrier. The pool was fantastic with a lovely view of both the mountains and river.
The property is river front and there are several maintained paths to go and watch the sunrise. Every detail is well thought out with the plants and lodgings.
We were more comfortable than expected at night considering it was an open air accommodation. Quite cool in fact. Some of our group hiked the Cascada El Bejuco which was walking distance to the trail head while the rest stayed back and relaxed at the pool. The restaurant was delicious at all meals. We also were able to cook meals in our accommodations so that was a bonus.
10/10 recommend! We hope to visit in the future.

We had an incredible stay at the Villas Pico Bonito. The property is like a fairytale. Beyond your wildest dreams. The views are second to none the huge pool overlooks the roaring rapids. There is a full bar and restaurant as well as kitchens in all of the villas if you would like to stop in La Cieba on your way up the mountain to buy groceries.
The owner Richard has developed trails all over the property so it’s easy to walk around and easy to get down to the river. Also just 15 minutes up the mountain you will find other resorts that you can visit as well as the bridge that takes you into the national park, it is a 10 out of 10
Also, I would like to shout out to Charlie at Catrachos Tours. He will pick you up and transport you to the supermarket and then up the mountain.
If you are on the fence about visiting La Cieba, don’t be. Run not walk to this absolutely amazing resort.

Villas Pico Bonito is a paradise. My partner and friends stayed here for one night as an excursion from Roatán. We took the ferry which was an hassel-free and Pico Bonito arranged a taxi service to take us directly from there. We stayed in the La Ceiba Tree Lodge which overlooked El Bejuco. The surrounding landscape, Rio Cangrejal and gardens are breathtaking. The service was top notch and amenities were incredible. They arranged a white water rafting trip and a hike to the base of the waterfall. Both of which were unforgettable experiences. The staff and guides were so kind and generous. As locals, they had immense knowledge of the flora and fauna and we were able to try native medicinal plants and hear generational stories. The food and drinks were very good also. If you have an opportunity to visit this singular location, I cannot recommend it enough.

this is my third stay at the Villas - Feb, June and now in Oct - in every season the grounds are magnificent!! The rooms are comfortable with stunning views of the river and waterfall. The food is delicious and the staff is accommodating and friendly. Don Richard is a wonderful host and I look forward to my next visit, hopefully in Feb. It is very safe on the grounds and to walk to the local chocolate factory and the cost is so affordable compared to Costa Rica or Belize for the same experience!!! Come on down!!!!

Villas Pico Bonito was more that expected, and I will treasure the memories. Richard, the owner was easy to communicate with from the states, and answered all my questions and arranged transport (small fee) from the airport in La Ceiba. The restaurant stayed open late (closes at 630pm) knowing we were coming. The food was delicious and the beer was always cold, we ate most every meal at the restaurant - it was very affordable and better than having to cook myself, despite having a kitchen in the lodge. The staff was so attentive, particularly Isabel who always had a smile and was a pleasure to see every day. We also made a friend in Lexi, one of three German Shepherds on the property. She was by our side most the day and night. There are many excursions from the property- the river rafting is a must. The water level was down but we still had a blast! We got to swim in the clear water and jump from the boulders. If you like a challenge do the waterfall hike - the terrain is challenging but the falls were beautiful. If not up for excursions swimming in the river or the well maintained also makes for a great day. Go! You wont regret it.

We spent over three weeks in this wonderful place that served as ideal starting base for a tour in the western departments of Honduras. The lodges are spacious, neat, and offer the entire commodities one needs. The owner Richard is fully concerned on the well-being of his guests, and his staff has proven to be equally of high standard when it comes to even small details or requests. We can only thank them all very warmly for having contributed to a journey we will remember for ever...

Beautiful place! I would stay here again! It was so nice to come back to the pool and such a nice, clean room after a long hike to the waterfall! The food was also great and the staff was extremely accomodating when we had to leave our suitcases there because our lodge wasn’t ready.

The Villas, up a mountain road from La Ceiba, are the perfect place to relax, enjoy the sounds of the rainforest, and go swimming in both the pool and the river. The location was just perfect, with easy access to hike in Pico Bonito National park. We were surrounded by jungle and the sounds of birds the entire time, just sitting on our balcony we could see toucans, oropendolas, kingfishers, and many other jungle birds. Our view of the river and El Bejuco waterfall took my breath away every morning, and it was easy to walk down to take a dip in the river whenever we felt like it. We loved our villa and enjoyed having a kitchen to cook our own food in. Richard, as well, was super welcoming and arranged a ride for us all the way from the San Pedro Sula airport as well as helped us get rides into town for both the grocery store and the ferry terminal. Overall, a great stay that I would highly reccomend for some peace and quiet in the Honduran rainforest!

I was there recently and the lodge I stayed in had a screen (it was on the bottom floor). I hate to tell you that the biting midges. Sand flies, no-seeums can get through a screen. However I didn’t have any issues with any bugs at all or of any bugs of any kind at Villas Pica Bonito. It’s such a lovely place. I stayed 2 days there and traveled there from Utila where I was for over 2 months & it’s a small island surrounded by beach-eaten alive by them until I got deep woods off (which works as does coconut oil). I’d say take a bed screen with you if you’re concerned and some off but March was not buggy.
There are more places to choose from in the La Ceiba area.
