The location is perfect, one block from the main plaza. The hotel is a beautiful building with interior courtyard, big rooms...but the furniture and the bathroom are in great need of a freshen up and we doubted the cleanliness of the room also... Breakfast was really good and there was enough to keep us going until supper!

I stayed there with several others for 5 nights and had a wonderful experience. The staff are soo nice and attentive, breakfast every morning was great! the owner is an amazingly helpful woman and very well connected and knowledgeable about Xela. Also it is a 3 min walk to the town center which is awesome! I would definitely come back... More

I just called this hotel to make a reservation for this upcoming week. Yes, I am a gringa speaking Spanish, but my goodness, this woman hung up on me when I was speaking. When I called back, she then told me that my Spanish was bad. Can you believe it!!! I will not be staying here.........EVER!!

I know Quetzaltenango well having worked and lived in Guatemala for a very long time. I decided to stay at Casa Manen because of what it advertised and having visited it when it first opened. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this place for either leisure or business. Quiet in the center of Xela may not necessarily be the norm, however I... More

I'd agree with everything other people have written about the great breakfasts, nicely decorated rooms and good location. What particularly impressed me was the way the staff reacted when I had to rush back to Guatemala City in a hurry. I'd found out that there was a risk of the roads being blocked (due to a political protest) the following... More

We spent one night while visiting a friend in Xela. It was an excellent value with a location two blocks from the main square. We did not meet the owner but the staff was really friendly & served us the best breakfast we have had in a long time. We did not understand how to get hot water so ask... More

Authentic and Charming Hotel ... (the other, big hotel in town is hotel-esque) ... this hotel is quintessential Guatemalan. Antique or artisan furniture from Guatemala .... local textiles decorate and cover beds ... interesting jars, vases, and artifacts decorate rooms too. Beautiful small hotel. Has great courtyard with wooden, Guatemalan benches and lush plantings .. and common living room with... More

7 of us (ages 15 - 50) stayed here for three nights. All of our rooms were great, and the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. Hotel is just as described on their website, and the location is very convenient. Highly recommended. Also recommend Monteverde Tours as a local tour/guide company. They provided multiple tours and transportation during our 6... More

Perhaps we’d arrived at a bad time, or somehow said something to upset our hostess, but the reception we received from Dana, the owner, was chilly to say the least, and barely improved throughout our stay, in spite of our best efforts. This was partly mitigated, however, by her friendly staff, who cooked a pleasant breakfast every morning. Our ground... More

This is a charming inn very close to Xela's central park operated by an American. Each room is different but all offer air conditioning, satellite TV and private bath. Breakfast is included in the room price and was fabulous. We also had a lovely dinner at the inn. The owner has recently opened a restaurant nearby called Los Tejanos. We... More

“We were in room 9 and the street light outside was a bit bright.”

“Every room is different so choose according to your needs. There is a room with a loft and one suite if you are traveling with a larger party. Otherwise, I recommend a room on the second floor with a fireplace.”
of 5 bubbles TravelerMarty, 13 Jul 2014 | Read review
“If you MUST stay here be sure to get a 2nd story room and if possible on the inside and not on the street. If you have to stay in a room on the street sides then bring earplugs or drink yourself into oblivion or stay out and dance and drink the night away. That may not be easy as the town seems pretty tame! Ask for a good bed and new linens with no holes in them!”
