What makes this hostel special is the dedication of the amazing owners. They show you the real Guatemala City in a way that you would never get to know on your own and they treat you like you are one of their friends. Most people skip Guatemala City but because of these guys we got to see that it's worth...

Quetzalroo really is a great hostel in Guatemala City. Firstly, the genuine passion that the owners, native Guatemalans and one Australian, is so great and they really take the time to make sure their guests get a fully comprehensive sense of the city. They always have advice on restaurants, things to do, places to see, etc. In fact, they ask...

This hostel is very very very average in my eyes. The only thing that makes it remotely worth 18 dollars a night is the free pickup and drop-off service and the general helpfulness of the staff, everything else is pretty blah. Seeing the rave reviews and the fancy website I expected much, much more of this place but I saw...

Really the best place you can start your trip in Guatemala!! Very friendly and helpful staff. The owner, Manuel, is an example of hospitality. If you want the owner draws you a map of Guatemala with all the landmarks you must see and numerous money saving and save traveling tips. You´ll get picked up and dropped off at the airfield...

Quetzalroo is the most famous hostel in Guatemala City for a reason. Manuel not only runs this hostel, he also pioneered the forum where different hostel owners in Guatemala can communicate with eachother about guests to watch out for, potential dangers, weather warnings, transport issues, dodgey tour operators etc so that this information can be passed on to travelers and...

We landed in Guatemala City at 5am, pooped. We did not know what to expect but had contacted Quetzalroo via e-mail. They were waiting for us with at the baggage claim and less than 45 min from when we landed we were sleeping in a cozy bed. When we woke up Manuel the owner sat with us for 30 min,...

I stayed here for a few nights before my flight and was quite happy with it. Relatively speaking, Quetzalroo is quite reasonably priced for Guatemala City and includes pick/up drop off at any bus station and the airport which is a really handy service to have (and will save you a significant amount in cab fare). The staff are friendly...

Greatest deal in the capital and greatest location! You never need a taxi! They come and get you from wherever you are coming in (airport, bus station, etc.) and then they will drop you off wherever you need to go (airport, bus station, etc.) And that taxi service is included in the price of the hostel! I stayed there on...

Honesty is one of the three tenets to live by according the signs posted in Quetzalroo, and they live by it so I just wanted to respond to some guy´s 1-star ¨terrible¨ review I read. Obviously Quetzalroo has plenty of positive reviews so this is probably not even necessary, but some of his claims are just truly inaccurate. Manuel´s corrections...

We found the staff to be very informative and welcoming. We spent our first night in Guatemala in Quetzalroo, and they answered all of our questions patiently. There was not hot water, but the rooms and bathrooms were very clean. Overall, we were so glad we started our trip at this hostel and look forward to ending it there!

“Rooms upstairs do not get wifi, that's the only bummer, if you have a private room that is likely the case. All the shared rooms have wifi so no worries there.”
