Beautiful layout where guests are in individual bungalow-like accommodations that provide the highest privacy. The food is fantastic. We stayed a week here and basically had a different dish every dinner meal. Never got tied of anything on the menu. The food was always so fresh

I love the resort because its Adults Only, has great service, and great amenities. If you want a place that's quieter than the backpacker scene of San Pedro this is the place. They greet you at the San Pedro Airport and transport you by boat to the resort. The only downside

We popped in for breakfast while out driving around. Honestly, at first I felt a bit under-dressed as we were on our way to Secret Beach and were wearing beach attire with cover-ups. Not to worry! And the food was excellent. A bit off the beaten path but worth the trip.

Yup Matachica is paradise on earth: the beautiful Casitas just sitting in front of the sea, the waves the crash metres from you! Everything in the hotel is perfect: complete relaxation! No telephone or TV but a very good WI-FI allow you to be in touch. The pool is great and the

Thank you so much for your kind review. I'm so glad that you enjoyed the sea, the pool and the rooms and most importantly, that you took advantage of our vision of leaving TV and home behind, and enjoying a unique experience away from 'reality' in a very special country. Indeed, the Sargassum has been a recurring issue, off and on without warning. We have gone for months without any sign of it, and then, without warning, we awake to it. As you kindly point out, our wonderful maintenance staff works diligently, beginning early each day, to ensure that our guests enjoy the beach during the peak hours. Again, I am so glad that you had such a positive experience with us and I hope to see you back soon. Thank you for taking the time to comment. It is most appreciated. Warm Regards, Daniel Lighter Owner

Thank you so much for taking the time to post. I'm most pleased to hear that your stay was fantastic and that you enjoyed our fresh cuisine at Mambo Restaurant. We take our gastronomy seriously and continue to introduce new specials while ensuring fresh ingredients-sometimes from our own garden from our sister lodge in the rainforest! Hoping that you choose to return soon for another stay-Belize always has new things to discover and is surely worth another visit! Perhaps include Gaia Riverlodge, our rainforest property on your to do list for your next holiday... Thank you again, Daniel Lighter, Owner

No. When we visited, the beach was covered with thick seaweed that had to be cleaned up every morning. Most people can't swim at the beach and have to take a kayak out. Not sure if you can fish off the dock but we didn't see anyone doing that. You can email the resort, they are very responsive.

The seaweed (sargassum) is a real concern (very thick and VERY smelly), that said the Matachica does have the cleanest beach area of what we have seen (they seem to have people working on it all day). It kind of depends on what kind of holiday you are looking for - if you are planning to be snorkeling/diving/kayaking/sailing and being out on the reef (like us) the seaweed isn’t a big deal, but if you want to lounge on the beach, I would give it a miss. Hope that helps!

In my experience, rain was not a problem. We had one early morning rain storm. The other days may have had a short shower. The only thing we were worried about was with the formation of any hurricaned off of the coast of Africa. It was very warm, however. They supply bug spray in the huts but the mosquitos are impossible to escape in the huts located off of the beach.
