We stayed in the "Sandy" room with twin beds. basic room outdated defiantly needs updates. The whole hotel needs improvements but for the price and location can't beat it. The room was basically to sleep and shower, spent the day at the beach sightseeing and the evening bar hopping and late dinner. The room was ok overall. if u cringe easily... More

The hotel was obviously not the nicest or even close to being the nicest at the hotel but I would definitely return there. Looking past the old building and furniture, I found it to be clean. Great view. Good price. You get what you pay for.

My wife and I just grabbed a short stay here in Avalon; we usually try to go for a week every summer, but timing didn't allow but three days this trip. Since it was an 11th-hour decision, it took a bit of searching to find an open room. We're "old hands" at Catalina, and have stayed in many of the... More

During peak season, I paid $100 a night to stay in the Henry room. It's too bad I have to leave this review. I don't think a place like Buena Vista could stay in business if this wasn't a very small island with such limited "independent" competition. You won't find a chain here. And normal hotel standards are swept out... More

It's not bad. It's not good either, but it's not bad. It's easy to find, if you know the lay of the land already, but be warned your phone's GPS might be thrown off a little due to the road layout, but if you simply walk the waterfront from the harbor to the via casino bus stop, then turn left... Price is right but be PREPARED as the place is really run down. Room smelled of mold, stained industrial carpet, mold smell in room. The bed was hard and the bathroom light/fan was so loud you had to yell to talk over it (needed repair). Toilet backed up and there was no plunger in room. We stayed in the Lyle... More

I was looking for an inexpensive hotel on the island, which I thought did not exist, until I found the Buena Vista. If you bring your own towels they will take $10 off a night, bringing it into the $60ish a night range. I got lucky with a room with a view of the ocean (the Sandy) for no additonal... More
