I booked a room at the hotel Arcata. The website said “triple room” and it said “large twin bed, double bed, twin bed”. I arrived at the hotel to find out that my booked triple room had a twin and a double bed. Not a big deal because it was me and my 2 boys. The front desk staff then informed me that my room was double booked and not available. I was offered a room with one bed or a suite with two double beds for $50 more. This hotel was in a nice location but it was old and dingy and not worth another $50. I travel a lot and I own vacation rentals and typically when there is a booking mistake on the hotels part they would make it right by upgrading with out an added fee. The hotel manager was rude and not apologetic nor accommodating at all. After reading more reviews about the hotel being noisy and uncomfortable, I am glad we couldn’t stay there. I suggest you go down the road and stay at the Blue Lake Casino. They have friendly staff and clean rooms.

Pros: claw footed tub, fantastic pictures in the lobby and halls, interesting rooms, terrific downtown location. In short: I would stay here again. Cons: Plastic shampoo/conditioner bottles. It's time even for historical gems to reduce their plastic footprint and install shampoo/conditioner dispensaries to the wall by the shower. Soon there will be more plastic than fish in the oceans. Also, if you're noise sensitive, the noise really travels here.

I stayed one night in mid February and it is a serviceable hotel. My room was quiet and everything functioned. TV had many channels, room big enough, places to charge gizmos. The breakfast is nothing special, but there’s a fine coffee shop a quarter block away. The plaza area has many restaurants, a suburb wine bar called Libation Wine Bar, and lots of activity on a Friday night in February. I parked my car when I checked in and was on floor until I departed.

The Hotel sits right on the town Plaza - a great location. With the decline of logging the town has declined some over the years. It is nice that the town hotel is still in business. You can learn all about the town and the hotel when you visit. The hotel is clean, comfortable and affordable. It is a good place to stay.

The good: Clean, good beds and pillows, plenty of hot water, location on the plaza and walking distance to restaurants etc. The bad: 1) Noise from street and other guests into the night --your first clue it might be noisy is a basket of earplugs at the front desk check-in. 2) Room is small and dreary decor is depressing; amenities include one postage stamp-size bar of soap for a 2-night stay and maid service is just making the bed and replacing towels. Not even replacing used coffee cups or rinsing the coffee pot. There is no climate control in the room, in winter you are expected to wait for heat until the hotel turns on the boiler. There are space heaters in each room. 3) The dismal continental breakfast, which is not much, is provided in a windowless and unheated room. Overall impression: because of the location on the plaza and supposed historic building (which is really more just old-fashioned) the hotel puts in the minimum effort in all areas of service. Would not stay again or recommend to others.
