I intentionally chose a hotel that is walking distance from the Smithsonian National Zoo. The Omni Shoreham was perfect. Staff was friendly and helpful and the hotel was clean and comfortable. Taxis are always at-the-ready, should you choose, if going to the National Mall and museums. Less than 30-minutes from Reagan National Airport it is ideally located with a variety of restaurants just a close walk away. The hotel, itself, has a wealth of history to claim with the Beatles, Presidential inauguration galas, etc. No doubt, I will definitely stay there again on my next visit to DC.

The amenities themselves are good, historical hotel but well maintained. I was worried that the rooms wouldn't be sound proof but didn't have any issue although the hotel was buzzing with a number of conferences hosted and a wedding even. It was a convenient choice as I was attending a conference at the Marriott nearby. The location is also strategic to bypass most of DC's traffic while being close enough to the main attractions. (Red line metro station at a walking distance). I am not usually a very demanding customer, cleanliness and comfort are the most important things especially on a business trip but as I tried to "pamper" myself I discovered the limitations of the hotel. The SPA system is a joke, you call in, they don't answer, so you are transferred to the front desk who insists on transferring you back to them while you are explaining that you called them in the first place! Concierge steps in, tries to solve the matter and helps confirm a booking. I show up at the expected time and everybody had gone AWOL. Concierge and even manager went down with me to find them but couldn't! They both were nice and apologized and I laughed about it, never seen in a good standard hotel... Honestly, I wasn't that irritated until I sensed that this letting go seems to be a corporate culture here due to other incidents that happened:
1. Flying insect invasion of the bathroom - not a housekeeping matter definitely (not dealt with immediately as i came back to the room around 4 pm and it was still not done with, less insects the next day but still there)
2. Lift out of order for three days (one side of it but in such a crowded hotel it meant long waits to get to the room)
3. The restaurant (Robert) closed for breakfast for a couple of days
4. Cleanliness of the drink menu at the Marquee

Basically, a property that seems to be left to run itself alone, not as part of a respectable chain, relying on its strategic location and beautiful amenities allowing for full occupancy with very little offered at the level of customer satisfaction.

Will definitely be more loyal to Marriott next time I am in the area!

I've stayed at this hotel a couple of times for various conferences, and I've had a high quality experience every time. The employees are all welcoming and made my stay feel more homey: everything from checking in, to talking to the concierge and housekeeping, was a pleasure. The rooms were comfortable and roomy, and I didn't hear any noise from the street. This hotel has a lot of onsite amenities, including a gym, an outdoor pool, and a sauna, and it's conveniently located near many of DC's famous attractions. There are also good restaurants nearby.

This is a classic hotel, quite different from a standard Marriott or similar hotel. Our room was elegant, with a very interesting decor and ample size. Everything about the room was perfect for a stay longer than one night. Lots of storage space, real hangers in the closet, a nice sitting area, and a stall shower in addition to a tub. Food availability in the hotel was mixed bag, with nice breakfast and lunch service in the main dining room, but no dinner in the main dining room, and limited menu and lesser food quality in the bar. Wi-Fi service in the room was intermittent throughout our stay. Sometimes the signal quality was fine, while not available at other times. The hotel lobby was perfect - lots of room and nicely furnished. Staff was uniformly excellent, including front desk, restaurant, and maid service. Valet parking was perfect. A simple text to the valet as we were leaving the room ensured that our car was waiting when we got to the hotel drive-up area. Overall, this was an excellent hotel for the money.

The staff is terrific at the Omni Shoreham. Truly nice and competent, all of them.

The gardens are a respite.

Omni Shoreham was a grand hotel when it was built in the 1930's. Solid concrete walls, high ceilings, wide hallways, several elevator banks, a large shallow pool kept clean and refreshing. Small but fully equipped gym, locker room with showers and a small spa.
The management is doing everything possible to accommodate the guests and work it's way back from Covid.
Robert, the very grandly designed in-house restaurant has the best pot pie I've had in a long time. Breakfast is very good too. It's not fully open yet and working from a limited but good menu, but is getting there. It's fabulous to sit on the comfortable couches outside around the fire pits.
The rooms are very comfortable. My carpet was new and the bedding is fresh, mattress is good.
Ample closet space, large dresser, 55 inch smart tv, individually controlled air. A little loud but cools perfectly.

I look forward to going back!

The Omni is one of the most elegant and historic of Washington's hotels. It continues to be a very welcoming place to stay for either business or pleasure, with a great location for families (a very short walk from the Metro close to the National Zoo) or business travelers (across the street from the Marriott Wardman Park). The staff are always friendly and helpful. It's always fun to read about the famous guests (including many presidents and The Beatles during their first trip to the USA). I plan to come back again soon!

This is the first time that I have stayed at this hotel in about 10 years. I vowed to never stay here again after the valet parking caused over $4,000 worth of damage to my new car...however, I had a conference here at the hotel. This time, I took the train.

Upon check-in at the front desk they had my reservation wrong. Rather than trying to help she said to me “are you sure about that? You’re going to have to figure that out on your own.” I did figure it out on my own, and of course the hotel made a mistake. When I got to my room, I was shocked to see the room looked exactly what my room looked like 10 years ago (when it was in need of a big renovation way back then). The bathroom had a broken doorknob, a cracked floor, and bathroom door itself was all cracked. The shower seemed like it was going to break Eve dry time I turned it on. The room itself is just a mix and match of things in poor shape. I was also locked out of my room 3 times due to their ancient system. Upon the 3rd time of being locked out they sent security up, and she told me that it was due to me closing the door too hard and it shakes the batteries out of place. I stay in hotel much more than the average person and I understand that every hotel has some issues...but this was the first I’ve ever heard that the door has locked me out because it was closed too hard. The icing on the cake was on my 4th day here, when I was waiting to take the elevators down - a homeless man was waiting in the hallway with me, also waiting to get on the elevators. I of course told the front desk right away when I was walking out. After I finished, the lady behind the front desk said to me “you’re going to have to tell Security - there he is...go tell him.”

This is a terrible hotel. It is extremely outdated and needs a gut renovation badly. The staff is also rude, and extremely lazy. They don’t want to help you or do anything, and they are very quick to put the blame on the customer for any issue that occurs. I STRONGLY suggest staying elsewhere.

We chose this hotel purely for proximity. Woodley Park is beautiful and the close location to Kalorama and Rock Creek Park make this a great choice when you want to be in NW DC but not downtown or Georgetown. Love the history and grandeur of the Shoreham and outdoor areas like pool are beautiful. The rooms as noted by others, particularly bathrooms, need some updating. Hotel seems understaffed and valet parking service was slow. I’d stay here again if I needed to be in this part of DC but don’t expect any kind of room quality compared to newer hotels downtown which are similarly priced at $300+ per night.

The Omni Shoreham is in a solid location for DC. This alone may make it worth using. Why a three star review? The interior, in May of 2022, was in such a need of a refresh it cannot be overstated. While the lobby is large and majestic, the furniture it contains looks like it was purchased at a yard sale, and is quite worse for wear. Cushions are flattened and threadbare, buttons are missing. Not a good look. The room we were given was in better condition, and clean. One issue that arose in the room was the lack of electrical outlets. As an older property, there are not many outlets in the room. This was an ongoing problem trying to charge various phones and items.

Two other interesting observations:

There is no free coffee or beverages of any kind in the common areas. The only coffee available in the morning is in the newspaper shop, which lines up quite quickly in the morning.

Also, the valet parking situation uncomfortable. I have never had a valet hold on to my keys until I provided a tip. Ever. In my life. As we were leaving this was again done after I carried my own bag to the car and loaded it myself all while the valet watched.

In the end, would I stay here again? Not likely until a refresh is completed.

It's an old girl for sure but really has a lot of charm and sophistication. The room we had was clean, big and had a great view of the grounds out back. Could have used another sitting area with two queen beds and only to chairs to sit. Unfortunately, what soured me was after paying for breakfast upfront, there was a billing problem that didn't quite get resolved. Make sure if you pay up front for the meal that you get the right menu AND that your guests are registered as adult or children specifically. The language in my reservation and lack of posted information resulted in a $15 up charge on my bill. It was my goal to have one all inclusive price (without tips) and easy check in/out. However, after working with the desk person to avoid a surcharge, I was made to feel like they were doing me a favor by only charging my $15 more. Not right. Just make the reservation and pay a la carte for anything else.
