The Phoenix Park Hotel garners high marks for its immaculate cleanliness and charming atmosphere, with the Dubliner pub adding to the lively experience. Nestled in a prime location near Union Station, it's a hit with guests eager to explore nearby attractions on foot. While the staff's warm and attentive service is often lauded, some guests have noted occasional inconsistencies.
The accommodations are generally well-regarded for comfort, though their size and lack of certain amenities, such as in-room coffee makers, receive mixed feedback. Opinions on value for money show divergence, with dining prices and room value seen as reasonable by some, but the cost of bottled water in the rooms is a point of contention for others.

Detailed Reviews

Nothing but good things to say about the Pheonix Park Hotel. Even though we arrived 3 hours early we were kindly allowed to check in & deposit our luggage in our room. We chose the king deluxe room & weren't disappointed, the room was large with great bathroom facilities, strong hot showers etc. The bed was extremely comfortable & my wife & I appreciated the laundry facilities available on the the 3rd floor particularly after travelling via Amtrak for some 5 days.
The hotel is only a short 5 minute walk to the Union railway station & car rentals & also within walking distance to some of Washington's major locations.
All in all a very pleasant experience at the Pheonix hotel...friendly & efficient staff too.

Hotel's Favourite
Before booking our stay at The Phoenix Hill, I wrote an email to the hotel manager, David Hill, informing him of the circumstances of our upcoming trip to DC. Mr. Hill wrote back extending a generous offer and a warm welcome to his hotel. When we arrived at the hotel, the front desk staff carried on the warm welcome. We were early for check-in so we expected to leave our bags while we toured the FBI building, but we were surprised to find our room was ready. And what a room it was. We stayed in the 2-floor Kerry Suite and my tween son's jaw dropped when he walked in. Modern, tasteful furniture throughout and no carpet (which to me is a good thing). The small bottle of Bailey's and the chocolate bars in the room were another welcome touch. That and the hot cocoa machine on floor 2 were highlights for my son.
Any problems we had were addressed immediately:
My son had a small injury when we arrived (he didn't get it at the hotel) and the front desk was great with providing antibiotic ointment and bandaids.
The suite did have a K-cup machine, but had just one caffeinated pod, the rest were decaf. When I called to ask for more caffeinated pods, the front desk employee personally brought it up.
We ate at the Dubliner 3 times, 2 dinners and 1 breakfast. One time our meal had a series of unfortunate events and the waiter took care of the bill without me even asking. I really enjoyed hearing live Irish music during our first dinner. It's not often I can go out to dinner with my child, grab a pint, and hear Wild Rover.
The location of The Phoenix Hill is great and is reason enough for a recommendation and return visit. It is across from the Union Station Metro and the $1 Circulator. We also were able to walk to some of our destinations like the Capitol building and the Library of Congress on the non-rainy days. The Smithsonian National Postal Museum is across the street. For breakfast, is you don't want the Dubliner, the Corner Bakery Cafe is 2 doors down.
Our days were so full that unfortunately we didn't spend much time at the hotel, but it was instant relaxation to walk into the lobby when we returned in the evenings. I will agree with one reviewer that there is a loud HVAC system (maybe it depends on your floor/room?), but we were so tired at the end of the day that we always fell asleep within minutes of our heads hitting the comfy pillows.

I chose the PPH as I needed to be close to Union Station and it's like a five minute walk. I thought it was a pretty classy establishment, the people at the front counter were really nice, helpful and welcoming. The room was pretty swish and I thought the bed was one of the comfiest I have slept in, with the ability to REALLY adjust the room temperature too. I liked the fact there was a bar fridge, safe, iron and ironing board, sometimes you have to fight to get those included and they were already there. The bathroom products were of a good quality and I really liked the shower. I didn't watch much TV, but when I did review the channels, it did seem to lack the main ones for sport, which on this occasion was okay for me, but was a miss. It was hard to get the room properly dark, the curtains were white and didn't really keep lights out from the offices across the atrium area. Again, not necessarily a big thing if you are tired, but it is nice to sleep in a dark room.
I went twice to The Dubliner, which is on the ground floor and have to say the service was really good. I liked the food and even on a Monday it was very lively, so I guess it must be pretty popular. For those who like Indian food, Rasika is a fifteen minute walk away and is seriously good food. I loved the tandoori lamb chops and would like to think I know a thing or two about them! I went on a bus tour and had I had a bit more time, I would have liked to wander around Chinatown a bit as it looked pretty interesting. I had fleeting moments in Georgetown, but absolutely loved it there, it had a really cool vibe to it and is a place I would like to visit again. I did get to the Smithsonian Air & Space, which has some really cool displays if you are into that sort of stuff.
I wouldn't hesitate to stay at PPH again, I thought it was really good.

This is the closest hotel to union station. The exterior looks old fashioned, but the interior has been renovated to a nice standard. Our room was very clean, but small, with just enough space on either side of the bed to walk. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were hard. The room had one side chair, a small desk and desk chair and an upholstered bench. There was one blue wall. The others were white. The artwork was black and white photos of Washington. I like that the floor was light faux wood instead on (unsanitary) carpeting. There was a mini fridge and a safe but no closet, only a narrow, exposed area with a few hangers. There was no luggage rack. The best part of the room was the huge floor-to-ceiling window with an arched top that gave us an expansive view of Union Station and sky. The shower was hot and the water pressure was decent, but the rain feature could not be turned off when using the handheld device. The towels were a bit rough and regular bath sized (not sheets). There were washcloths. There wasn’t much room near the sink to put toiletries. There wasn’t anywhere to hang a hand towel. The hotel bar, The Dubliner, is open late.

I like small hotels and this one had an old-world cozy quality that I enjoyed. It also has a lounge on the second floor with good Coffee machines, which is wonderful to just pop over in the morning and get your first cup. Clean attractively designed room and good size bathroom and shower. Two plastic water bottles left in the room are usually complimentary in other hotels, here they were asking $5. each. When I asked for a map of the area, they did not have one. Most hotels offer maps to show your location and the area. I was told they had been discontinued. One front desk attendant made the effort to search and the next day he presented us with the map. Very nice of him. The hotel has the Dubliner Restaurant, a well-known bar, and eatery in DC. The location of the hotel is not far from the center and one block from the train station.

Fabulous hotel! The hotelier has given much attention to details from the interiors, to the comfort, cleanliness, service, and hospitality. We stayed on the 9th floor and the room had comfortable beds with multiple pillow choices and a large, elegant bathroom. The 2nd floor has a generous selection of coffees, teas, dispensed water, and a microwave adjacent to the lounge. We were celebrating a birthday and they upgraded us, thank you so much, left a card, bottle of wine, and gave us drink tickets for the restaurant. We ate in the Dubliner which was cozy, had excellent service, and delicious food and drinks. The walk from the train station took about 7 minutes. I highly recommend this petit, boutique hotel for a Washington stay and am happy to have it to look forward to in future.

The hotel is well located near the central rail station and the capital building. It includes a restaurant with very good food and large portions. The beds are comfortable, the rooms are clean, and the staff is very friendly. You have to be careful about which room you get. Ours was too small for two people, but would be fine for a single. The tv didn't work for 1.5 days of our 2-day stay. There is no coffee maker in the room and you have to go down to the 2nd floor for coffee, tee or hot chocolate which is very inconvenient (especially in the mornings).

So glad you found our team so engaging and I am sorry for the TV connection you had in your room which prevented 3 of the channels to not view on the first day Our rooms are not large as we often state here and we provide a lovely Guest Living Room with 24 hour gourmet coffee service for expresso, latte, tea and hot chocolate rather than the standard room coffee service. Following the various very good reviews we read, we chose this hotel to spend 3 nights in Washington.
The stay was really disappointing on many points:
The rooms are very poorly insulated, both in the windows which are old single-glazed windows and in the corridor doors. Prepare yourself to live to the rhythm of neighbors and onlookers in the street, to be woken up every hour by passers-by and people returning from the evening, basically you won't sleep at night.
The house keeping is also very bad, hence dust on the floor in the room as soon as you arrive, a cleaning lady who pretends that you had left (until 10 a.m.) a do not disturb on the door so as not to clean the room. daytime . And to top it all off, my partner's handbag (fortunately empty) disappears from the room!!!
Finally, with valet parking at $62, our request to be able to park our rental car for 30 minutes in front of the hotel to load our suitcases was politely refused....
Average hotel to ultimately avoid, move on!

The location was perfect. A block away from Union Station Metro which took you all over DC. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The room was cleaned daily, unlike the new trend where they ask you IF you want your room cleaned. We were able to leave our bags after our checkout which was very convenient.

We spent four nights on the eighth floor of the hotel with a nice view of the National Postal Museum and Union Station. The hotel was a short walk from the Union Station Metro stop and a short walk to the US Capitol. There is a lounge on the second floor with coffee and other hot beverages open 24/7. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful, and they were happy to store our luggage before check-in time and after check-out time on our arrival and departure dates. The Dubliner Pub is adjacent to the hotel. It is a very popular place. There is also a restaurant/coffee shop called the Corner Bakery at the end of the block. We will definitely stay here the next time we visit DC.

We are one city block from Union Station - the rail and intercity bus station and also the METRO stop for Red Line.
I’m so sorry that I don’t have the answer to this question but they were so very very nice there that I’m sure they would answer your question if you called them and if I were a betting person, I’d say that they probably accommodate wheelchairs, etc. Good luck, I hope you get to stay there
We do not allow bicycles upstairs in our rooms. We will endeavor to assist our guests to place them in a suitable location.
