The Pendry Washington DC - The Wharf is highly regarded for its cleanliness and tasteful luxury, with guests frequently describing it as a comfortable 'home away from home.' Its prime location garners consistent praise, allowing easy access to attractions and offering waterfront views. While the hotel's amenities, particularly the rooftop bar and pool, are often highlighted as luxurious, opinions on value and room layouts are mixed, with some travelers finding the rooms small and the hotel overpriced. Service is generally commended for being attentive, although experiences can vary.

After visiting Boston and New York, we went to Washington for the first time, staying 4 days and 3 nights. The hotel is brand new with beautiful interiors in a fairly lively area for the evening and day. We had a room with a view of the Potomac River and the Pentagon which could be seen in the distance. The children's room overlooked the street but was spacious and could accommodate 3 children without problem thanks to its two double beds. The televisions are modern and offer the convenient Google Chromecast service for watching a movie or video on the screen. The pool is located on the second floor and has a nice view of the Potomac River with plenty of double lounge beds. During the week everything is free but at the weekend plan to reserve the deckchairs if you want them. The stay was very pleasant and we are happy to have chosen this hotel despite its expensive cost.
PS 1: when you order a taxi or food, it may not go in front of the hotel since it is on a sort of passage behind the building compared to the main street.
PS 2: Although not hotel related, there are numerous helicopters operating during the day in and around Washington. We searched with the support of my husband but it was in vain.
We recommend this hotel for any explorer of this fabulous country of the “States” as my son says.
Have a good trip, young spirited explorer!
“an aberrant hotel” as my daughter says

I’ve stayed at many luxury hotels, in DC and elsewhere in the US & globally, and was totally wowed by our recent experience at The Pendry. From the moment we entered until we checked out, the service was perfection: friendly and professional without being overly solicitous. Each staff member was well trained and helpful, something I have found to be increasingly lacking everywhere. The accommodations are simply gorgeous: comfortable beds, beautiful furnishings, stunning bathrooms - while the majority of DC hotel rooms are dated or standard issue major chain offerings, the Pendry offers a fresh approach in a great location. Speaking of, the “new” wharf area is spectacular in every way, offering numerous dining options within walking distance, a no-brainer after a long day of sightseeing. I traveled here with 2 kids and this area was a delight for us, as it clearly was for numerous tourists and locals alike.

If there is any area for improvement I would say that the food and beverage might benefit from some tweaking: the rooftop bar / restaurant is truly special though impossible to get a cocktail (some have said overpriced though I found the pricing to be in line with what you’d find in other local bars)…ditto the lobby bar. Clearly the pricing had zero impact as both establishments were fully booked on a Saturday night. The second floor staple restaurant, where we had breakfast only, was simply ok…nothing special but good service.

I’m not sure why The Pendry doesn’t appear in TAs Top 10 as it is more than deserving of a spot! If you’re looking at comparable options in this category I highly recommend you give this hotel a try! You won’t be disappointed.

The hotel is beautiful with excellent service! The rooms are well-appointed, with robes, bluetooth speaker, a well-stocked minibar, and a bathroom with a separate toilet area. My room had a great view of the harbor, but was strangely shaped and a bit hard to lay out luggage with limited storage (a closet, but not really much drawer space). There is a downstairs, as well as a roof top bar with great views. The gym is large with lots of equipment.

Tiny rooms, one can barely get around. Two chairs crammed in a corner that you can’t get to surrounded by a round even smaller table that is only large enough for their two magazines. If you want to watch tv and pull the chairs in front, youll block the entrance to the room. Broken coffee machine (machine that you need a YouTube tutorial to use). No paper cups, no sugar, no creamer. Slippery showers. No open shared spaces in the hotel. Literally you step into the hotel, you see the front desk (more like a woman behind a work desk) and to the left are the elevators to the rooms! he staff at the front desk are a little low energy. Shocked that this is part of Montage hotel family. For the price over thousand dollars, the service and rooms are subpar. The Moonraker Bar upstairs is what people go there for to party. However, It’s definitely not five star accommodations. Very disappointed. ☹️

I'll start this review off by saying that the hotel and the rooms are nice, but everything else about my stay were subpar. First, the lobby was understaffed during my checkin, and this was midday. The parking was insanely high as well. I reserved my room through Hotels.com, and being that I have status on this site, I was supposed to receive a free upgrade from the hotel. When I asked about an upgrade at checkin, they immediately tried upselling me $200 upgrade to a partial river view suite. I was too tired to argue about my upgrade status and just paid for this with the understanding this would be a really nice view of the wharf / river. The room I was given was on a low floor and the amount of river you could see was anything but a partial river view; they should call it a sliver view. The room itself was nicely decorated, but the furniture, the table chairs and couch, were very hard and uncomfortable. The bath products were unimpressive as well, I haven't struggled to dispense soap or shampoo that hard in a while. The bed was hard as a rock and I slept very poorly during my stay. When I complained on checkout all they offered me was about $30 off my mini bar purchases. This is my second time staying at a Pendry and will likely be my last. I don't feel that this is a luxury and or 5 star hotel brand, but more like a 4 to 4.5 star, certainly not worth the price.

We are in town to see the cheery blossoms and attend the parade. We decided to stay here because we have been to the one in Los Angeles and it was amazing. This hotel barely seems related. We emailed and spoke to three people before we arrived about the stroller they advertise on their website. As soon as I gave my name at 11:30pm on a long flight with a 4 year old and an 8 yr old, Nick says "oh, there's a note that says to tell you that our strollers are first come first serve." I won't even bore you with the details of the conversation. -But the rooms are tiny, they look nothing like the photos, there is a huge stain on one of the chairs in the room ( so of course nobody wants to sit in it, the floor lamp is dusty, the room is weathered, and honestly, if it weren't midnight, we would check out. We are only here for the weekend, and I wish we had've stayed somewhere else. The best thing so far is likely the location. It looks like a nice area to be in.

My stay in March 2023 at the recently opened DC Pendry was solid, and the price, combined with uneven service and disappointing quirks, made it just OK. I was excited to experience having previously stayed at the Pendry New York and San Diego. I paid just over $600 a night for two nights before taxes.

What I liked: The hotel’s interior design is impeccable and thoughtful details throughout. Really loved how coherent the whole thing felt. From the Moonraker bar to the lovely Flora Flora restaurant and to my room, I thought it was all exceptional. The moody Pendry bar in the lobby at night is full of charm. The view from my room at the marina and channel was wonderful.

What Disappointed: The service was just OK, and uneven. I couldn’t get service on a slow Thursday night at moonraker until I tracked someone down. Sitting at the Pendry bar counter, the bartender took an unusually long time to get to me and then was downright dour. She was not friendly. When her friends popped by to say “hi” she lit up and was engaged. Later, it waited nearly an hour at 11 PM for a chicken sandwich. The Flora Flora team was gracious, engaging, and attentive. Again, uneven. But having experienced Pendry’s exceptional service in NYC and San Diego, it was a big letdown.

Downright Irritating: I was surprised there was no housekeeping during my brief 2-night stay. At this price point I expected it, and no one told me when I checked in I had to request it. Next, my shower was awful. There’s only one knob. I had to choose between a shower with great pressure that was scalding hot, or a trickle of water that was temperate. Again, for $600 a night, I shouldn’t have to stand under a trickle of water. Finally, I prefer to sleep in a cool room, around 66-67 degrees. Both nights I was awakened at 3 AM being hot, realizing the room was now warm, whose automatic thermostat – probably to save money – reset to 70 degrees. It wasn’t until the second night I figured out how to cancel and reset it to cool it down. Thanks for interrupting my sleep. At a place like the Pendry, could I please keep the room at the temperature I want? (I'm not too fond of the trend in hotels to automatically raise the temp at night to save money).

The raving positive reviews here are not an accurate reflection of the experience my family experienced over a 10 day stay. I’d booked one corner king premium river view and one larger suite without a view, months in advance for a special family event. The rooms we were taken to were “upgraded “ to truly tiny, smaller than your dorm room at premium pricing. I would have been happy to pay the pricing if the value was there. Eventually we were moved to larger rooms that had no view at all but were comfortably appointed and more appropriately described as a suite. Larger spaces, and the bathrooms featured in the promotional pictures. These were quite nice.

There were many problems ( the wrong tiny room, a barking dog, a missed upgrade that was given away to a new guest who walked in without a reservation and stayed one night instead of 2 room party with a 10 day booking) and a shortage of staff.

There were a few key team members who tried really hard to make up for the deficiencies in the staffing, notably Jose Vasquez who came from Hilton and understands the expectations of a 5 star hotel. Jose was truly wonderful and dedicated to the job. Management in all of the restaurants also worked diligently to make a 5 star impression.

Overall this hotel is all hype without substance. If you want a premium experience on par with Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons or even Hilton’s Diamond program you will be sorely disappointed at the Pendry. The “New Luxury” are tiny rooms with nice bathroom and no staffing. This group has a long way to go in reaching quality and service, and if you’re expecting 5 star or 5 diamond you will not find it here. To Jose and the management at the rooftop restaurant that tried so hard, I hope Your management team hires enough staff to make your lives easier. This was truly disappointing and I would not make the mistake of booking Pendry again.

The Pendry DC is a fabulous hotel! The staff is so friendly and helpful! My room had a four post bed, a gorgeous marble bath with walk-in shower, the best smelling bath amenities I have ever experienced in any hotel, and a hand held steamer that made preparing for my meeting so much easier. The location is wonderful too being in the new Wharf area and so close to DCA. Oh, and do not miss the Lobster Cobb Salad at Bar Pendry, I will definitely be back!

Loved the stay, loved Titus at the spa. He was wonderful, very knowledgeable and he truly made me feel comfortable. 5 stars to him. The only issue I had here was the destination fee because this is a high price point and I only stayed one night and was charged a $40 per night fee which was not prominently advertised when booking or checking in. This was a high price point and I was told the destination fee was for a welcome beverage (I didn't have bc I had to rush to an appt), e-bike (I never used) and some other ambiguous amenities the staff couldn't really communicate to me upon check out.
