Stayed at the Hotel Monaco for four nights and was impressed with how soundproof the rooms were for being on the streetside of busy 7th street in Penn Quarter. We slept soundly all nights and never heard any noise from adjoining rooms either. For the most part, Kimpton properties are pretty consistent in their service and the Monaco in DC... More

This hotel is a converted Post Office so bathrooms may be quirky and closet space may be minimal in some of the rooms. The warmth of the staff, the general ambience, and the prime location more than counterbalance small inconveniences. Grandchildren got welcome bags when checking in,coffee or tea in the morning, cookies available in the afternoon, wine in the... More

I've stayed at this hotel twice now and have to say it is my favorite hotel in DC. This is a fantastic property. Housed in a historical building, it is just an amazing place to stay. The staff is incredibly welcoming and will go out of their way to help with whatever needs you might have. Kali, one of the... More

Don't miss this gem! This was my second stay at Monaco and I will return every chance I get. I am not typically a fan of "boutique-ie" type hotels since I really like modern conveniences and plenty of room. However, Monaco is special! It used to be an old Holiday Inn, which kind of makes me cringe, but the only... More

I booked this hotel through an on-line service (hotels.com), and I had booked a king deluxe room with hosted wine reception. The first thing you realise is that this is an old building, converted to an hotel - it was like many buildings in Washington an old post office!? The hotel is well maintained and the corridors to the room... More

First time at this hotel. Try to stay at Kimptons whenever possible. This is an old historic building made into world-class hotel. They gave us free upgrade to huge room with vaulted ceilings on 4th floor. Staff were super and location is in midst of everything and across street from Metro stop. I always expect road noise but windows in... More

Having never visited Washington before I did a lot of research before booking our hotel....and it paid off. Everything about this hotel was great. We checked in after a TWO HOUR queue to get through immigration ( a disgrace!) and got to the hotel to discover the 'happy hour' had finished....not a problem, the helpful gentleman on reception arranged for... Absolutely the worst wifi bandwidth in the civilized world. I tested it via http://speedtest.net and IF -- that is IF -- I was able to get a ping, the best speed I got was 2.5 mbps. To compare, I get close to 30 mbps at home. I've traveled all over the world and as a comparison, I get better wifi... More

Thanks for the kind words on our staff and location markingsley, it's true many countries rank above the US in average internet speed, (the US ranked 13th in a 2012 study), but 2.5mbs ranks right about at the global average in 2012 - not sure what you were looking to do with all that speed but our apologies if you... Excellent hotel and very well located in Washington. This historic building was actually one of the first Post offices in Washington and like most of such buildings in USA, very grand and well built. The courtyard is open to 8th street via arch which was once used by postal horse carriages. The hallways are long and hotel rooms are excellent.

Won the lottery for tickets for the Shakespeare Theatre Company's Free For All on a Saturday night and found a last-minute deal Saturday morning for the Monaco. Loved the other 2 Klimptons we stayed at, so that sealed the deal for an impromptu in-town get-away. Took the Yellow Line Metro to Gallery Place and popped up just across the street... More
