We had a great day at the downtown Hilton Garden Inn. I had specifically booked it due to the proximity of the McPherson Metro rail station, but unfortunately it was closed over Christmas week for maintenance. We still had no issues walking or taking Uber to numerous attractions and restaurants in the area.

If you opt to drive or rent a car, note that parking is around $56 per day. It wound up being cheaper for us to walk or take a combination of Uber and Metro rail. We did rent a car from the Hertz location at the nearby Westin for one day to go to some further away places and dinner in Baltimore, but made sure to return it that night so we didn’t have to pay for parking.

There is a breakfast buffet that will run you around $25 which is pretty good. We did indulge one day, but there is a Starbucks and small café right across the street. If you’re looking for something lighter and cheaper.

Service at the hotel was great. Staff was friendly and helpful. If you have status with Hilton, you are able to use their electronic key, which makes life much easier.

The rooms were roomy, and the bed was very comfortable. I would have liked to have had a table in the room for us to eat on Christmas night when we had to opt for Chinese delivery since our dinner reservations were a bust due to overbooking at the restaurant. I also would’ve liked to have had access to an HDMI port on the TV to use my personal streaming device. Most hotels seem to give you access to an HDMI port, but at this hotel, the TV was mounted to the wall and you could not reach Back behind it. A 3 foot HDMI extension on all the TVs would have been a most welcome amenity.

All in all, based on our experience, I would highly recommend this for a visit to Washington DC. The location is literally only a seven minute walk from the front of the White House.

When visiting our nation's capital, it would be hard to beat the price or the location. We only had to cross the street to get to the metro, and cheaper parking was available across the street. They also offer valet parking, though it costs quite a bit.

The room was for the most part clean (the bathroom could have used a sweep).
The AC was loud, but after one sleepless night when the fan kept turning on and off, I figured out how to set the thermostat (not on the machine) to continuous and not auto.

Wi-Fi did not work on my older laptop, but did on my newer devices.

Breakfast was AMAZING, and the staff was very cordial and helpful.

We look forward to staying there again, which is the best compliment I can give, with so many hotels in the area.

On a side note, the White House is within walking distance, but so blocked off by security that you have to walk for blocks just to see it, and from what I was told it is hard to visit. So that might not be your determining factor for choosing this hotel.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel for 5 nights, July 30 - August 3, 2022 based on the positive reviews and the hotel's central location. When we checked-in, Allen, the reception staff, was very cordial, pleasant and welcoming. In fact, all the hotel personnel we had encountered during the 6 days we were there, were just fabulous. Such wonderful customer service!! Hotel's location is excellent, walking distance to most of DC's attractions or you can also use the Metro as the McPherson Metro station is just across the hotel. We used the Metro a lot, even coming and going to DCA Airport on the Metro blue line. Our room was located on the 10th floor facing the back of the building which is more quiet compared to being in a room facing the street. Room was very clean and spacious. Housekeeping service is by request only which is not a big thing for us since we don't have little kids with us to mess up the room. We tried the breakfast buffet one morning in the hotel and it was great but a little pricey though. Since we don't really eat a lot for breakfast, we had been having light breakfast across the street (the Gallery Café) which we highly recommended since a lot of the locals seems to patronize the place and the café have various sandwiches that we enjoyed.
We had a great time staying at this hotel mostly because of the great and wonderful hotel staff who provided such fantastic service to their guests. Will definitely be back in this hotel when in DC.

Bad experience, bad experience!!!
They didn't tell me that cleaning is not daily, you have to ask for it, I got to my room and it was not cleaned, I had to go find a maid and waste time, they don't include slippers or a bathrobe and at breakfast they charge an extra tip even though to pay for breakfast included. The pool is not heated. A very expensive hotel with bad information. The people at the reception are very unfriendly. I do not recommend it.

The staff at breakfast were so out for tips that it seemed almost an obligation to give one. We had paid in advance for our stay and breakfast and so I was shocked the first morning when the waitress grabbed me by the arm to point out that I had left no money on the table. I said I left the voucher as the reception explained to me but that wasn't enough following her, I had to tip at least 20$ for her hard work. Because I have pertinently refused this, this lady and her companion has made it difficult for us every morning by leaving us at the entrance or not offering us coffee and putting her fingers in the bags and glasses and then smiling in our direction. The breakfast itself is not really great so we regularly went elsewhere for breakfast. The room was a ‘suite’ but she was extremely noisy and in need of renovation. When there were blood stains on the sheets I went to the reception for new sheets and the noise but Cynthia said that this was not the Waldorf Astoria and that I had to live with the noise if I wanted to stay at the Hilton. The pool was cold and dirty. The man at the reception said swelling was something for summer and not winter. 2 of the 4 lifts were not working so you had to be very patient to get down in the morning. In the bar we once paid cash and at check out we had to pay this bill again. I asked to speak to the manager but for that I had to come back at 4 pm, but because our plane left in the afternoon we could not go back so I had to forget about it according to the man from the reception because the food managers do not respond to emails, no time for it.

First the good, this hotel is in a great location. A few blocks from the White House. Right across the street from the Metro Station and Starbucks. Now the bad, the floor in our room was dirty when we arrived (a chicken wing bone and candy on the floor-yuck!) and when I asked to change rooms the staff member didn’t believe me, argued with me about it and was very rude. I had to take her up to my room and point to the food on the floor. We ended up just picking the trash up off the floor ourselves bc hotel was sold out and we couldn’t change rooms. She never apologized for the inconvenience. I also got charged for parking and didn’t have a car. I wouldn’t stay here again.

Comfortable hotel, located within a 15 minute walk of the National Mall. Rooms were nicely appointed, bed and pillows were comfortable. The lobby had a *very* strong scent. It felt like someone had gone overboard with a room spray or diffuser - could practically taste it! The pool was small, but still enjoyable for the kids.
The price for valet parking (there is no self-park option at the hotel) was $56.00/night with an additional "garage tax" of $10.08/night.

I stayed here as a solo traveller for three nights in April. I had originally booked a hotel further out, but decided to change nearer the centre to cut down the walking. Another reason is that it is directly across the road from the McPherson Square Metro. The convenience of being central is at considerable cost, but the prices in this area are much the same.
The facilities are pretty much as expected for a hotel of this type. The reception is small but sufficient, and there is a small food shop for snacks. My room was on one of the higher floors with a good street view, and traffic noise was not an issue.
I didn’t use the bar or restaurant, preferring to eat during the day, but I did use the breakfast buffet one morning, which had a good selection of hot and cold foods.

The hotel is overpriced for the value it provides. At best it offers basic 3-star facilities. I had booked for 3 nights but I checked out after one. One reason being the quality of room allocated to me but the bigger reason being the lacking empathy of staff when I raised my problems. The front office staff was quite arrogant and quite surprisingly not even minimal efforts were done to listen to me or retain me when I said I will rather leave and move to a another hotel if my room is not changed. Of course I did move to the Westin nearby which offered far greater value at a lower rate (I will review Westin separately).
On another note the breakfast buffet at this hotel is very basic in terms of spread. The only silver lining was the person on the concierge desk who really helped us in the evening by guiding us on the local area. The location is good and possibly that is the only factor that keeps the business coming.

Nothing special to write home about, not particularly luxurious or fancy, but the rooms are clean and it's close to public transportation and conveniently located. You have to request housekeeping one day in advance if you want your room cleaned, which is actually a good way to be environmentally friendly (and save the hotel money; win-win I guess). The staff are kind and friendly, and willing to go out of their way to help, which was nice.
