The Riggs Washington DC hotel boasts a central location that garners appreciation from guests for its convenience to city attractions. Travelers enjoy the stylishly appointed rooms, though some report issues with noise and upkeep.
While the hotel's atmosphere and cleanliness receive accolades, the value proposition is occasionally questioned due to high costs for certain amenities and services. Despite occasional service hiccups, the staff's friendliness is often highlighted, and the hotel's overall ambiance and historical charm are well-regarded by visitors.

We spent 3 nights at Riggs over the week of July 4th. Location was perfect for exploring the Capitol. The common spaces and hotel room were beautifully designed and very comfortable, striking a difficult to achieve balance of luxe and stylish yet warm and cozy. We ate at Cafe Riggs multiple times and got room service once - the meals and service were excellent. The only downside is service at the front desk is not on par with that of a 5-star hotel. There's no iron in the room and it took >45 minutes and multiple follow up calls to get one delivered. Housekeeping also knocked on our door at 9:30am the morning of checkout. Just...disorganized. Overall, we still loved our room and enjoyed our stay.

My wife & I spent a very enjoyable Sunday night (4/23/23) at the Riggs Hotel in Washington, DC. We can highly recommend it, especially if you want an ideally located hotel for sightseeing in DC. It has vaulted to the top of our list for stays in DC. For roughly seven years, my work took me to DC at least once a month and three trips a month was not uncommon, staying at an assortment of hotels. The Riggs is on par with the best I encountered and much better than most. Although our room looked out on a moderately busy street, we could not hear a bit of road noise. The curtains did an excellent job of keeping out any undesired sunlight. The bed was large and very comfortable. The bedding material was top-notch. The air conditioning ducks were located so as to not blow in your face when in bed or seated at the side table. The towels were nicely absorbent with a pleasant textured surface. The bathrobes were light but absorbent. The room was spacious. Some have commented on the lack of a dresser for unpacking but we found the closet (illuminated when the doors were open) was large enough to keep our suitcase open to access what we might have put in drawers. When exiting the room, the door closed without making a sound. However, we found we usually had to pull the door shut. We prefer that minor inconvenience to doors that closed with a bang, potentially waking others. In addition to the door not fully engaging when shut on its own, we had two other comments. There is no support bar in the shower but the marble floor is properly textured to prevent slipping. And the next time we stay, which we intend to do, we’ll bring along a nightlight. The simulated or repurposed vault for the fridge and snacks was cute and functional. Every employee we interacted with was gracious and helpful. We were able to check in early and could leave our car in the valet parking lot for an extended period after checkout. We both had the Café Riggs in their main dining room for Monday breakfast and were very pleased. The bacon was impeccably cooked and the avocado was perfectly ripe and delicious. Sunday night we had drinks and dinner in the Silver Lyan, the converted main vault of the bank which was also excellent. I will review it separately. All in all, a very pleasant experience and one we hope to duplicate soon!

We arrived at 7pm and the room was not ready, Victoria the receptionist was unhelpful and rude; she did not have the decency to offer a drink or where to wait (no explanation for the delay). Fortunately, Kim (who should be the General Manager) offered us a drink and place to wait. This hotel has no lounge for guests, instead there is a noisy bar mainly for non guests. We were given "an upgrade": a noisy connecting room (we could hear everything people said in the next room). We changed to our original room with such a layout that it should be classified as dangerous. The toilet door is between a wall and the sink so only one person at a time can reach it. The noise of the AC outside all day and night was terrible. You can hear the plumbing system very time someone opened the tap or flushed the toilet. No proper lighting. Only 2 table lamps, and one tiny bedside table. Worst of all: the room is full of Flim Flam: no space to put your things; the fridge is full of rubbish drinks and the only surface available had two books by Bronte and Plato (who wants to read these on holidays?) and wine glasses and a bottle of something alcoholic.
Don't these managers know about practicality and guests' needs? We want space to put our suitcases, our toiletries, a wardrobe with shelves. This hotel does not cater for guests but for its self indulgence. Never again. Please get rid of all the useless Flim Flam and make guests' stay a pleasant one. On a positive note, apart from Kim, the porters were magnificent. This hotel do not deserve wonderful employees like these. By the way, I do not want a stupid reply from the manager, who only pay lip service to customers' comments. Nothing will change and the Flim Flam will stay.
One more thing, during check out, I was told they were charging $30 plus for amenities: I asked what that was for and I was told that it was for the use of the wifi and other things. What things? I asked so the receptionist when to ask someone and came back to say that no one knew. I demanded to have these charges removed from the bill as we had not made use of any of the "other things". Terrible indeed.

Had a nice experience with most front desk personnel. Everyone of the other staff (cleaning, bellmen, etc) were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. Only issues were really with the room itself. First issue is there was no way to get cold or even cool water from the shower or sink, so when you were thirsty you had to drink 90 plus degree water. There were no water bottles provided in the room (not sure if there were supposed to be) and there were none for sale in the mini fridge. This wasn’t a big issue since we could stock up on water at a drug store. By the second day of our three night stay, it became clear that our AC wasn’t going to get any cooler than 73 degrees, but that wasn’t a huge issue since it was still comfortable. We had already asked to switch rooms once because we were originally 15 feet from the elevators and it was particularly noisy even with the door shut, so we didn’t want to be a pain and ask for a second room change. Our third night in the hotel the AC was completely broken and the thermostat read 78 degrees (I even took a picture). My friend and I both spent most of the night awake and sweating. The icy cold contrast in temperature when we got up and went into the hallway was so startling that we both burst out laughing. When we went down to tell the front desk at check out, the girl was very polite but all she said was “well did you tell anyone so we could fix it?” No, we didn’t want either 1) to have people working for potentially hours inside our room or 2) to have to pack up all of our things and relocate to a third room when at that point we just wanted to be asleep. She didn’t offer to accommodate us in any way, and I thought maybe we’d get an email apologizing for the inconvenience but so far, nothing. I was very surprised that, at a hotel of this caliber, you could have no AC for half your stay and there would be zero attempt on the hotel’s part to make it right.

Room well appointed. Expresso coffee only. Mini bar in room. Upon checking in the staff were business like but critically forget to mention to additional charge for the “in room services etc” of around $40 a day. They don’t forget to add it to your bill at the end of your stay though. Don’t rely on your phone for payment as they need a credit card to reserve $500 against just incase. Bar was nice & staff friendly. Beer was about $18 a pint so not the best value but fine for the occasional visit.
Restaurant is more of a bistro feel @ was pleasant.
Location is brilliant only a short walk to a number of restaurants & the national mall no more than a 10 / 15 min walk. Metro stations just a grew steps away.
All in all a safe clean and pleasant hotel to stay at.

We stayed 2 nights. The main bar and upstairs restaurant are in a beautifully restored snd decorated huge room with high ceilings. We had a really good lunch including delicious onion soup. The bar is inviting whether you are on your own or with others.Ruth at the bar made us feel very welcome and even though she had only been working there for 4 months you would have had no idea. The bedrooms are comfortable with a good shower and the location of the hotel is very central to the main sights

BEWARE! This hotel charges an unexpected “amenity fee” on check out, over a hundred dollars for two nights? This was not explained to us on check-in. It was for the use of the slippers, dressing gowns( we only had one in our room) and water. All of these items we did not use. Hotel is a great location but tired, rooms are dark and the heating system is very noisy. The wallpaper around the toilet was filthy. This ‘amenity’ charge is very outdated and not charged by any other hotel we visited over our month visit to the States.

Stayed here for 2 nights and had a pleasant experience overall. I mentioned that I will be coming with my dog so Charlotte went above and beyond and surprised us with a personalized welcome card addressed to my dog. Charlotte also made sure to give us a room with street view window overlooking the Xmas market to keep my dog entertained. These nice gestures truly highlighted our stay and made us feel welcomed. Breakfast at Cafe Riggs was delicious and service was excellent! The location is great within walking distance to many restaurants and museums

I had an amazing experience here at the Riggs, from check in to check out staff was extremely welcoming and ensured I had the best options during my stay. I decided to do a staycation this year to celebrate my birthday, I left out to grab some things and came back to a complementary bottle of champagne macarons and a handwritten birthday note from staff! How awesome? The bathroom is fully stocked with all your needs, the bedding is extremely soft, there was plenty of room in the deluxe king room option. The decor is extremely unique and nothing like Ive seen before and follows the bank/art deco theme all throughout the hotel. The actual location for the hotel is perfect and allows you to be within walking distance of alll of the famous DC museums i.e Portrait gallery, Capital One Arena, plenty of nightlife and food options as well it is really convenient with shopping options nearby as well in the City Center Galleria Absolutely Amazing and I will be back!

Presumably the question is whether the hotel has a Russian speaker on staff because the questioner has a situation where Russian speaking guests not fluent in English are looking for a place to stay.
