As a frequent traveler to DC for business, I’ve had the chance to sample many of the city’s hotels but Hilton National Mall has become my go to. While it may be trite to say: Come for the location but stay for the quality.

The hotel is located on top of the L'Enfant metro station, where all the major metro lines in DC (except the red line), stop. Smithsonian museums, the mall and the Wharf are a 10-15 minute walk away and the International Spy Museum is across the street (LPT - check out 10% discount bar code at the front desk). Another LPT - take the cab from DCA rather than Uber or Lyft - it's cheaper (~$13-15), faster and it won't cancel on you (I can't speak for IAD). Another reliable option is the metro - the yellow line takes 15 minutes from DCA to L'Enfant metro station. There are almost always cabs waiting outside the hotel, and if not, the front desk or the bell captain will call one for you.

The hotel itself is newly opened in 2019. Rooms are comfortable and spacious with hardwood flooring instead of the carpet. While there have been some minor issues with HVAC in the past, and it seems that guests have some trouble with spilling things in the elevators, the front desk is always very responsive and the issues were quickly resolved. Speaking of the front desk, they are welcoming, friendly, and focused on ensuring the best possible experience for their guests (especially Alex). The Housekeeping staff reliably and efficiently clean the rooms daily (just make sure you push the button by the door, there are no door placards).

While there is a food court under the hotel that has a variety of quick service options, it can get very busy with school trips and it is mainly a lunch place. Luckily there are plenty of food options at the Wharf, only a few minutes away. The hotel has a restaurant, which is quite good and offers happy hour every day 4-6 ($6 beer and wine and some substantially discounted appetizers). This is helpful, as the hotel does not have a lounge, but they do offer an $18/day food credit (depending on status). Additionally, there is a Starbucks in the lobby.

While I mainly stay at the hotel for business, I can say that because of the location and amenities it is also well suited for families (they have a pool).

We stayed here between Christmas and New Years. The Hotel is new and very nice. it is floors 1, 2, 11, 12, 14 & 15 of a renovated building in the L'Enfant Plaza Complex, right behind the Spy Museum. The rooms are comfortable and nice sized. We had two king size beds in our room. It was a short walk to the National Mall. The rooms looking onto the pool courtyard are currently watching a construction sight. The bar and restaurant were good and there is a Starbucks in the lobby. There is no hotel shop to buy snacks or forgotten items, but there is a smallish mall with foodcourts and a CVS below the hotel. Although we did not use it, there is a Metro station under the hotel. A nearby car rental came in handy the day we needed a car. They added $100 per night for incidentals to the initial charge, which seemed a little steep, but it was refunded at check-out.

The hotel is less than a 10 minute walk to the National Mall so a great location for easy walking. The hotel was very clean and all staff very friendly and helpful. The beds were comfortable and the room was spacious. The pillows were very thick which might be a problem for some people. The city view room overlooked the highway which did allow for some noise from the cars. It wasn't excessive but was noticeable. There was a one or two inch gap under the door allowing for a lot of the light from the hallway to come into the room and made it very loud when anyone was in the hallway talking. The location was good for seeing the National Mall but not near any easy food options. This is likely the case due to Covid closures. The Starbucks had a very limited offering of breakfast options. It is very hard to find the hotel when driving there. There is not good signage at all. It is right behind the Spy Museum so use that address in your GPS, not the hotel address. The hotel was very quiet, especially when not the weekend so it felt very safe in regards to Covid. The valet parking was $49 per night and operated only from 6 am to 10 pm due to Covid. It was quick to get the car back and valet workers were very friendly.

I am a Hilton diamond member, so I have stayed at many Hilton hotels. This one does not deserve to be a Hilton. It was clean enough, but there was visible dust, so I don’t think everything is cleaned. We did have a partial view of the Washington monument and the capital, but the windows were filthy on the outside.
The pool was not operating for the first part of our visit and we were not informed of this and then, surprisingly, it was open half way through our visit and we were not told of this change, either and unfortunately this made many floors very slippery near our room.
It was very difficult to find out about amenities of this hotel. There was no welcome letter in the room as there usually is for diamond members. And there was no paper information about the hotel, just minimal information on a TV channel. We get included breakfast as a diamond member and when we asked about this at the front desk, the employee begrudgingly told us we could get breakfast at the Starbucks in the hotel and charge it to the room and $10 each would be included. This worked fine, but if we wouldn’t have asked, we would not have known.
There are signs that read masks are required, but no enforcement. Some housekeeping staff wore masks and some did not.
Housekeeping would speak and yell loudly to each other right outside our door every morning. It was at 8 or 8:30 each morning.
The hotel is right above the metro station, this is great for transportation. But be aware, if it’s after a certain time in the evening, you will need to call security to let you into the mall area to get to the hotel. There is a misleading sign that reads you can call the hotel to let you in, but they cannot open the doors.
It looks like there are many places to eat in this mall that is below the hotel, all these places have odd opening hours, most are not open in the evening or on weekends, so you are essentially staying in a food desert.
The beds were really hard and the pillows were very large. Often times, there will be a couple large pillows and a couple of flatter ones, but this hotel did not have this. The towels and sheets were fine, the towels are big.
Overall, the stay was fine, but the lack of information about the hotel was absurd and the beds were uncomfortable.

I am a Hilton Honors Diamond member, and as such when I visit different cities I like to try out different properties in the portfolio. I remember when this building was under a different flag, but once it was refurbished as a Hilton it was on my list to try. Add to that its location near the up-and-coming Wharf area which gave me something more to explore in the evening hours.

I was impressed by the modern rooms, including the digital Do Not Disturb lights outside each room. My room was spacious and comfortable. Climate control was easy to use. Bathroom had plenty of space for my toiletries and no issues with hot water. The only nit I have about the room is that while I chose to be on the 12th floor, I didn't realize that my room faced the pool deck so there could be people walking outside as if I was on the ground floor. But the crowd was quiet and with pool hours observed I had no issues with noise outside nor in the hallways.

Front desk staff was cordial and helpful, welcoming me and recognizing my status. They did explain the food credit that I'm well aware of as a loyal Hilton family guest. I did not end up having breakfast because I had an early departure in the morning, but I did use some of my credit for some snacks to have later.

This property comes well recommended, as its ambience and its convenience to attractions cannot be beat.

I searched and searched for the best hotel, and for what we paid, I wish we would have selected another property. I will discuss the good first. The room was a good size, the bed and linens were comfortable, the location was good for walking to some of the sites and in close proximity to the Metro, and the water was HOT.
Now the bad. The room was located close to a train, and had a LOT of street noise (sirens, cars, train horn), far worse than NYC. There was a sound of running water in the wall constantly. Not sure if this was a water heater, pipes, or the AC but it wasn't running water in a soothing sort of way, rather a keep you up all night annoying way. The pillows were very very soft, not in a good way. Most of the front desk staff was short with us and acted inconvenienced when we had a question. Because of this we felt it would be a waste of time to address any of the issues we had with the location of the room. The ice maker on our floor never produced more than 1/4 of a cup of ice, you can't visit other floors for ice d/t key card access. The hotel restaurant does not serve breakfast and there are not a lot of options within walking distance, so we had to eat at the Starbucks every morning. We had to constantly ask for coffee in the room, sometimes they brought it sometimes they didn't. There was no online option to order food from the hotel, you had to order at the bar downstairs. Not related to the hotel directly but many of the food options listed as nearby were temporarily closed or if they were open closed at 3/4/5pm.
I think when you stay at a Hilton you expect a certain level of customer service, which just wasn't received at this property. Covid has definitely put constraints on things, but it shouldn't be an excuse for poor service and accomodations. We will stay elsewhere next time.

Needing a hotel that was in a relatively good walking distance to Smithsonian museums, I found the Hilton on L'Enfant to be the best overall deal. I was happy to discover that the hotel had nicely updated rooms that were comfortable and, in my room, a gigantic TV screen that made me really happy! Check-in was a breeze; when there was more than 2 people checking in the manager sent out extra front desk staff immediately to facilitate the process. I will definitey book this hotel again on my next visit because one needs many days to view all the incredibly interesting museums in the area such as The Spy Museum, The Smithsonian African-American Museum and the National Museum of the American Indian to name a few.

Very happy with our stay here at the Hilton DC Mall even though we had trouble locating the entrance from the street below. Checkin was seamless, and friendly. The desk staff was very informative in letting us know in advance that food options at the hotel was limited, and where to locate alternatives during our stay. The wharf is just a 10 min walk and you will find excellent food and beverage options there.
The room was spacious, clean and the beds comfortable. I like a cold room, and the air conditioning worked well. Wifi connectivity was excellent. And housekeeping won't come into your room unless you request for it (pandemic measures). The best part of it all was that you could easily walk your way to all the monuments and historic attractions from here. Hotel staff are happy to provide you with a map.
Don't feel like walking? Then just take the elevator down to the metro L'Enfant Plaza.
Even the bus from Dulles Airport stops here, it is super convenient!
They do offer valet parking for $45 or $55 per night (crazy!).
Food at the hotel restaurant for dinner was a bit 'meh', didn't enjoy it.
Breakfast is only available from the Starbucks outlet in the lobby, and the hotel gives each guest a $15 food voucher.

We stayed here for 4 days and 3 nights. It was the perfect location that it was within walking distance to the Smithsonian, easy access to the metro, and an electric bike rental only 1 block away. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Adam the bartender was a wealth of information regarding events that were happening while we were there and restaurant recommendations. Since it was both mine and my husband's first time to DC he was extremely helpful. The only thing that was a bit inconvenient was the food court has very minimal hours on the weekend. Stay here and enjoy your time in DC.

Stayed for two nights for a conference. The hotel has recently (?) been remodeled and features some nice amenities like kettles and coffee makers in room as well as mini refrigerators. The lighting in rooms has lots of options and the large screen TV was equipped with Chromecast. Floors are tiled and there was a pair of slippers available on the nightstand. The location is very convenient for metro travel. Staff was friendly and the hotel was easy to navigate for meeting locations. The food served for the conference was okay. My only complaint was the temperature issue. My first (much nicer) room had no heat. I was moved to a less nice room that also didn’t have heat when I arrived, however, staff was up very quickly and was able to fix it. From that point in, it was a roller coaster of too hot and then comfortable, which was also the case in meeting rooms. Dress in layers:).
The Spy Museum is steps away and was fun to visit. The wharf district is also walking distance although we took a taxi because it was dark and we were not familiar with the area.
