The Hamilton Hotel receives applause for its prime location, making it a favorite for guests eager to explore the capital's attractions. While the rooms are often lauded for their cleanliness and comfort, some guests find them to be outdated and noisy. The hotel atmosphere is considered comfortable, yet the lobby could use modernization.
Amenities and service receive mixed reviews, with commendations for staff helpfulness contrasting service inconsistencies. Opinions on value vary; some guests appreciate the competitive room rates and special deals, despite concerns about overcharges.

Centrally located on pleasant Franklin Park, this stylish, historic hotel is sure to be a great choice for visiting Washington. McPherson Square subway station is a few steps away, and the White House is also within walking distance a few blocks away. Coffee shops and restaurants can be found nearby. Our room, which offered the solid comforts common in American cities for the category, had a beautiful view of the neighboring park. What we particularly liked: From the lobby you can reach a very welcoming restaurant and bar where you can buy pizza and pasta at the usual prices here. The restaurant also has a terrace, where it can sit comfortably on the road - something like this has rarity value here! Which would be much better: The hotel lobby is spacious and painted snow-white, with some randomly parked seating in various non-harmonizing bright colors that convey no trace of coziness. A good interior designer could certainly create something exquisite out of this space. What didn't work at all: Upon our arrival on a Sunday night in September, we were checked in by an elderly lady at the reception who did not give herself a hint of an attempt to hide her bad mood. No greeting, no welcome, neither friendliness nor helpfulness, let alone some warmth. After about 19 hours of arrival it was almost a slap in our exhausted faces. Otherwise we always found the staff to be very correct.

We stayed at The Hamilton for four nights, its handily placed near to McPherson Square on the Metro which is on the direct line from Dulles Airport. Checkin was easy, we got a room right outside the elevator on the 10th floor. No issues with being close to the elevators, good soundproofing in the room. Room itself was clean and tidy, equipped with two double beds for our party, enough storage space and a good bathroom. Minibar in the room as well as a mini fridge in which we kept our own drinks. This was more like a freezer though and everything we put in there froze, couldn't turn it down either. Housekeeping was good, daily cleaning and replenishment of coffee supplies. Reception area was clean, checkout a breeze and they kept our bags for six hours whilst we made the most of our last day before the flight home.

Stayed for 3 nights recently. Excellent location near metro and walking distance to The White House, and the National Mall. Room large and clean on upper floor. We had a medical incident on our first night and staff were very helpful in getting the emergency services to assist. There are 2 fridges in the room - one filled with drinks and treats - do not touch as you will be charged. The 2nd fridge is for guests to use to store your own stuff. Would definitely recommend

You are definitely paying for the location as opposed to hotel amenities. The Hamilton is a very grand looking 1920's building with an equally grand lobby... beyond that, there's not much more to it. The restaurant/bar is alright, serving a mostly Italian menu in the evening. Breakfast is average, as is service. We didn't experience the fabled American hospitality. It was "hotel typical". We had a twin room which was quite large but only one clothes closet and two drawers beneath the TV. The tea/coffee facilities was in fact one of those pod machines so no endless cups of Yorkshire Gold for me! The bathroom was the usual for a hotel...small, no natural light, free shampoo,etc...but it was spotlessly clean and there were plenty of fluffy white towels. The beds were very comfortable and the automatic A/C kept the room at a pleasant 68°. The mini bar had sensor activated snacks on it. This seems to be a thing in American hotels these days. You get charged if you just pick them up...so don't pick them up. There is a safe and a second fridge so you're good for storing personal food and drink should you want to. That's basically all there is to tell... You are less than five minutes from the White House, the Lincoln Memorial and half an hour's walk to the Capitol and all the museums...and that is what you are paying for...a base of operations from which to 'do' Washington. A perfectly acceptable hotel that's more 3* than 4*
I'd say Sainsbury's rather than Waitrose.

Upon check-in I noticed that the front desk attendants were wearing their own clothes. No uniform or matching blazers, shirts, etc. Which made it feel like a motel. This extended to the room. While it was comfortable and clean, it was very run down. Again, it felt like a motel. Even the plastic waste bin in the bathroom was something you'd find at a roadside motel - not a hotel charing $400+/night.
The experience at the hotel was totally forgettable. While the staff was pleasant [I had minimal contact with anyone] the overall vibe and condition of the Hamilton made it feel very on the outs.
As much as I enjoyed D.C. I wouldn't stay at the Hamilton again.

The room was very small, the bathroom was ridiculously small and outdated. Need more outlets, counter space and room to move around. Shower head was old and sprayed randomly all over the bathroom. Service was good, the valets did a nice job. Front desk was very responsive when I called and requested more tissues and a fresh wastebasket when my wife was ill.

This stay was outrageously expensive and buyer beware of their facility charges - we were charged $74 for parking; and $35 for facility fees which we didn't use. The room was modest at best - water pressure issues with shower - internet lagging- not even a free bottle of water ($6)- for a two night stay of bed use only it was another $135. Not worth the money

I have traveled to DC for work more than a decade and, from now on, I will only stay at Hamilton on 14th & K. It is not uncommon in the District to find nice hotel rooms in good locations, but it is extremely rare to find a hotel with staff as kind, welcoming, and accommodating as the people at Hamilton.
The lobby staff was eager to help me enter and exit the building, as I was using a scooter to recover from foot surgery; they were there to open doors, take my bag, help me into and out of vehicles, and not because they were told to do it by management but because they were genuinely lovely people. The front desk staff were always accessible and had warm welcomes. Management was never frazzled or cold, no matter how busy they might have been. The staff is the most valuable asset this independent hotel possesses.
As for the location, it was easy enough for me to get to yummy eateries, even on the non-electric scooter, but it was not really necessary because Via Sophia (the restaurant in the hotel) was my top choice for dinner.
My favorite parts about the room were the shower water pressure, the ability to open the window and have fresh air, and how luxurious the bedding was - I would have expected to pay twice as much, and I would have paid it, too.
I could not have asked for a better experience and I am sure you will be blown away by this hidden gem, too.

Don't expect the amount on your confirmation email to be the amount you are actually charged when you depart from the hotel. I booked 2 rooms - one for myself and one for an employee. I booked one room under their fall special rates for myself, and the other room with special deals they had for parking and breakfast for my employee as he was driving and I was flying. The confirmation emails first of all don't include any information as to what special offers are included so I had to guess which price went with which reservation. According to the hotel manager, my room confirmation was the one for $765.62 (listed as my "stay total"). My final bill, however, was for $771.72. The manager told me it was because of the impact fee that they couldn't charge until I checked out.
I booked the 2nd room for my employee and I received a confirmation email with a "stay total" of $707.35. This was the one that included the parking and breakfast deals. But the final bill when we checked out was $806.94. I was told it was because they couldn't charge me for the parking and breakfast until we checked out, even though it was a "pre-pay and save" offer. The impact fee for this room was listed at $2.80 per night. The manager told me that the impact fees are based on 1% of the total reservation rate, so none of the numbers are adding up.
You will also be expected to pay a $25 "facility fee" for each night you stay.
And finally, for the 1st time ever (and I travel a lot) I was bitten by bed bugs during my stay. Since I had never been bitten by one before I wasn't certain what it was until I had it checked out before I flew home. I noted on the online feedback form that this had happened to me and they should check the room. No one responded. And even after I mentioned it to two different employees over the phone and by email (including the manager) after I left, it wasn't until I mentioned it for the third time that the manager responded and said they would have the room checked out "upon the first available departure of the room."

I had requested early check-in at booking and was counting on it so that I could work from the room, but when I arrived I learned that (1) I had to pay extra for early check-in, and (2) it would be several hours at least before a room was ready. There was also no guarantee that it would happen at all. I did end up getting into my room around 2pm, and I begrudgingly paid the fee because there really wasn't a nice, quiet place to work in the hotel, which I feel should have been provided given their policies around early check-in. And for a hotel that costs this much, I expected a much nicer room. I won't be staying there again.
