Detailed Reviews

The hotel was in a great location for visiting the Smithsonian museums, the farthest one was about 2km away (30 minutes walk). The Capitol building itself was an easy 10 minute stroll away.
The hotel is themed around George Washington and his wife Martha, and tastefully decorated. Unlike many other hotels we have stayed in, this one had nice firm pillows plus a bath and separate shower.
The staff were all extremely courteous and friendly and always ready to assist. Happy hour was daily between 5 and 6 pm with supplies of red wine and white wine provided, and entertainment on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Today we were assisted by Ephrem who not only looked after us over happy hour, but also provided car valet services and often guidance and directions
A French bistro off the lobby also provided great dinner options, and there were several restaurants within an easy 15 minute walk.

We stayed three nights at The George Hotel after a 2 week US road trip. Family of 2 adults and 3 teens. IHG Platinum Elite member.
Overall we had a great stay and I agree with previous reviews that the staff really make it - so helpful and engaging! They were especially patient with me constantly asking if my delayed suitcase (courtesy of American Airlines) had arrived - it finally came 2 days later. They provided me with some emergency toiletries which was very helpful. They happily gave us a late checkout and arranged a taxi transfer to Dulles at the end of our trip which was also very helpful given we had a late flight home.
I was a little disappointed however with the rooms. We had booked two kings with sofa beds, and with the sofa beds pulled out there was very little space. I also felt the rooms and corridors outside were looking in need of some attention. The rooms also felt very dark and gloomy without any nice views (just out to the other rooms opposite). Housekeeping was a bit inconsistent and I had to ask twice for coffee pods and creamer as they had not been replenished. Given that we were paying around $250 per room per night I was hoping for a little more to be honest.
Location was however very good (wonderful views down to the Capitol) and we enjoyed breakfast each morning at a bakery next door which was very convenient. We used Ubers to get around and they were cheap and plentiful.
Overall a great trip nevertheless and we would consider this hotel as an option for a future trip.

Thank you for the comments! We are always looking on areas to improve and have circled back around with our housekeeping teams to keep up the consistency. We re also continuously making improvements with scheduled updates, changes and replacements happening constantly (we just replaced all of our carpeting in our foyer and ballroom).

The staff at the George Kimpton were wonderful. Solomon helped us secure our bikes and then bring them in and out of of the hotel with ease. He was attentive and always eager to help.
Happy hour staff were also lovely.
The only recommendations I have are to fix the two treadmills that are broken in the gym and provide antiseptic spray and paper towels so the gym equipment can be cleaned after use. Thanks for a great stay!

We have stayed at a number of Kimpton Hotels from San Francisco to Nashville. Love that they are very dog friendly and always a bit “edgy” in their decor with a great vibe. The George is an historic 1928 building that was previously the Bellevue Hotel and then became the Hotel George in 1998 and was rebranded as a Kimpton hotel in 2002. With that bit of history as background, the Kimpton George is not like other Kimpton properties we’ve enjoyed and admired. The George has very narrow and dark painted hallways, painted metal doors on the rooms, and even though we were in their suite, the room itself felt worn and tired. You could tell immediately that this was an old building that had not been remodeled. The lobby looked nothing like other Kimpton's we’ve stayed in. Others are typically more cheery and upscale with a great ambiance. The George lobby was not cheery and definitely not upscale.
Also, a room fob was not required in the elevator to go up to the room floors. Anyone could go up to any floor whether they were a guest or not. To us, this was a security flaw. Yes, to enter the hotel during the night required a key, but that was not the case during the day. And there was no obvious security personnel watching who came in and out during the day.
The location is close to the Capitol building and the Mall, but you will need to walk about a mile to get to any restaurants or shops. There is a new Corner Bakery next door, so that was great for breakfast. The neighborhood is a bit “uncertain”, we were advised by staff not to leave anything valuable in our vehicle. There is a parking garage across the street that has 24/7 access, and also one behind the Kimpton down an alley that was beautiful and safe, BUT it’s only open 7am to 7 pm, Monday to Friday. But it’s where we parked as our vehicle was too tall for the 24/7 garage. But it was clean and safe.
Now, the BEST part of our two night stay was Ephrem! We arrived very late the first night and very underwhelmed with the neighborhood and the hotel itself, but Ephrem saved the day for us!! He was so gracious, kind and helpful. I think he knew we were a bit frazzled from the Washington traffic and late hour. He went out of his way to be kind and helpful in any and every way!! Ephrem saved the trip for us…and Kimpton!! This review would probably be one star if it wasn’t for Ephrem.
We love Kimpton properties, and will continue to stay at them in our travels. But we found the George to not be up to the physical look and standards of the others we’ve stayed at, and honestly the George is just old and tired.

I stayed at this hotel on a business trip on November 13th and arrived to find that the top floor room has a strong odor of feces. They sent a facilities manager to the room who said there was no way to stop the smell but to open the windows and he gave us febreze spray. I’m not kidding. That’s really what they did. They didn’t have any free rooms to move me (it was late around 10pm) so said to call in the morning to be moved. I spent the night with the windows open and spraying scent to be able to handle it (I also tried other hotels but there was a conference that week and all were booked).
They moved me to another room the next morning and apologized profusely and offered me 50,000 points on my IHG account (good for a free night basically). I politely accepted and they said to look for the points on my account. I just checked (late January now) because I’m booking a trip to Europe and the points were never added. I called and after 20 minutes on hold they said they only offered me 5,000 points (worth 1/10th of a free night) and don’t have a record of offering 50,000. They also have no record of actually giving me even 5,000 points for my trouble and asked me to spend some more time going to their front desk team to try to get those points added to my account.
So basically the room smelled like sewage for a whole night and they lied about compensating me. That’s the hotel George.

I truly enjoyed my stay at the George! From pulling up and having Salomon assist me from my car to check in, to Paul taking care of me at the check in desk, and he double ensured my room was perfect! The rooms were very clean, and the pillows were one of a kind! I needed to work for a few hours and the wifi connection was better than the one I have at home! Fritza and her amazing smile introduced us to Jorge the honorary pet, and assisted us in finding the exercise room which was nice. Major plus: they have a towel cooler located in the exercise room! After working out we ordered a second set of towels via text and they were delivered extremely quick! And true to form Paul and Salomon made my check out a total breeze! I will absolutely return and 100% recommend this property to anyone who needs a clean quiet peaceful place to stay with smiling face and touches of luxury sprinkled around!

Fantastic stay at The George. A wonderful hotel that has a strong emphasis on customer service. From reception at check-in and inquiries any time of day, Solomon, Paul, Fritza and Sirey, all making sure you have what you need. Texting allowed us to get quick answers whenever needed.
The hotel itself if well kept, lovely rooms, bedding, bathrooms, daily housekeeping that took the extra steps to tidy up and make us feel really welcome after a full day of sightseeing. Freshly made coffee in the lobby in the mornings, happy hour in the evenings. Great vibe and cool theme.
Short walking distance from Union Station and nice little breakfast cafes and Irish Pub right around the corner.
Thanks to all who made our visit so fun at The George!

It's at the entrance to Washington so it's easily accessible.
The bus terminal to the outskirts is also close by.
The staff are all friendly and cool.
The room is comfortable and warm
I think I can sleep well as the bed is soft.
There is one nightgown and no slippers.
There is no toothbrush and toothpaste set, but cotton swabs and cotton pads are provided.
There is a bathtub but no bidet.
There is a coffee maker that allows you to drink Starbucks coffee, but since your cup may overflow, press Brew.
You should take a good look
I think it would be difficult to get this quality at this price in Washington.
Lasts for one hour starting at 5pm
Don't miss out on wine time
White wine is really good

The room was very nicely appointed with special touches like umbrellas and bathrobes for your added comfort. The bed was the most comfortable I’ve had in quite some time…Yes! Restful nights for sure. I especially appreciated the excellent customer service by the staff. Marcel was a wonderful concierge offering suggestions for area restaurants. He also made sure that all of our needs were met during our stay…providing extra towels and checking in during our stay. Upon checking out Paul-Solomon made sure that we left refreshed. He even gave us extra water for the trip home. This is a great location with walking distance to Union Station and close proximity to the National Mall (Uber 6 min and 18 min walk). There were plenty of restaurants choices nearby….10 minute walk…I would definitely stay here again!

Be careful when making a reservation. When I booked it required a deposit, which is not a problem. The problem is that they sent me a notice that better rates were available, but when it went to take advantage was told since a deposit was already made the reservation or rate could not be changed. Interesting business approach for customer service. Probably because they joined IHG and ar no longer independent.

I never used the fitness center. I've always run down to the capital, which is very close and much more beautiful! I recommend you call The George directly with this question.
Thanks - good idea and will do.
Thank you, VC
On may last stay, I was told that the amenity charge was a regular feature. I believe, but may be mistaken, that it is associated with the affiliation with IHG Hotels. My daily amenity fee was $22.99 with a $3.40 amenity tax. It did not appear to be associated with any specific useage of hotel amenities, rather, with their availability.
