YOTEL Washington DC attracts guests with its central location near the Mall and museums, as well as its clean, high-tech rooms. While many visitors appreciate the modern vibe and smart amenities, such as adjustable beds and ambient lighting, some guests have called out the small room sizes, noise disturbances, and peculiar bathroom designs. Opinions on service are divided, with instances of both warm praise and frustration over disorganization. Additionally, reviewers warn about unexpected costs due to mandatory fees, which can mar the perceived value of the stay.

Fast easy check in process with nice staff. Able to get into my room early was a bonus after early morning flight!
Fantastic location within minutes to Union station and Capitol Hill.
Rooms are quirky. Possibly not to everyone's taste. Shower and toilet have frosted glass doors. Shower is a cube off of the hallway so you step in and out of shower directly into the room . Ok if you're sharing with someone you really like!
Hairdryer, mini fridge, safe all in room.
Coffee station on each floor a bonus.
Had a caeser salad for dinner from the bistro, which was really disappointed with for the price. . Lettuce not cut up, a few shakes of dried bacon pieces and cold chicken.
My only criticism of the room is the bed sheet didn't fit mattress so came off constantly while sleeping, which was uncomfortable.

Good day Lisa C, Thank you for choosing to stay at YOTEL Washington DC. We appreciate your business and value your feedback as we continuously strive to improve everyday for our guests. Based on your review, it seems that you booked and received our Premium King room type which is our most economical option as well as our smallest and most unique room type. Please look out for our First Class room types that offer some larger spaces and more traditional guestroom layouts that might suit your needs a bit better next time you visit. We hope you will give us another opportunity to earn your business in the future. In service, Matt Sommers, General Manager

The hotel is in one of the best locations in Washington, as it is very close to the Capitol. It is a preferred location as it is very close to the Mall and all the museums around the Mall.

The rooms are of medium size and they are a clear 4 stars quality. The room furniture is quite modern and this is the first hotel where I have discovered electrical reclining beds. They are very convenient and confortable and they can help you increase the room size when you are not usin the bed. The bed, when fully flattened, occupies most part of the room and you have to squeeze a chair between the bed and the table.

There is no coffee machine/maker in the room and you cannot prepare not even a cup of tea. BUT, in the hallway, near the elevators, you have a big coffeee machine and an ice maker for your convenience. The coffee machine can prepare also decaf, if this is what you're looking after.

Underground garrage parking is available but it is expensive. It is 50 USD/night if you don't take your car out and 80 USD/night if you plan multimple exits and entries.

The check-ins and check-outs are fully automated and you have machines on the left hand side of the reception and you can do your own process and the bill will be emailed to you afterwards.

The only negative that I have encountered at this hotel is that, becuase they are fully automated, they do not accept cash at the reception. Although the website is not mentioning any clear restriction regarding the cash payments, the reception refused to take cash for the room payment. I am of the opinion that the cash payment should not become a daily habit but also should not be refused.

Also, beware that the hotel is taking a safety deposit of 100 USD/night of stay as this seems to be the usual business habit for all hotels on the Northen American continent.

Also, beware when using your internation debit/credit card which is issued in your country of residence and which doesn't have behing a bank account in USD. Any other currency behind your card will be subject to currency exchange rates and taxes and that will be an added cost to your hotel stay.

Just to give you an example of the currency exchange loss magnitude, for a three nights stay at this hotel, the debit card was charged an additional 50 USD. So plan also for this cost.

Also, a little nuissance is that the room cleaning starts rattling the door handles of the rooms quite early in the morning so, if you seek not to be disturbed, don't forther to hand the sign outside the door.

Good day ArturS764, Thank you for choosing to stay at YOTEL Washington DC and for your very detailed review of your experience. We appreciate your business and value your feedback as we continuously strive to improve everyday for our guests. You are correct that it is customary at hotels in the US to authorize your credit card at check-in for more than the expected charges for your stay. This additional amount is to cover any charges that you sign to the room such as food and beverage or parking but it is also used to protect the hotel in the event of damage or smoking fees that need to be charged. Rest assured, any amount not needed to cover charges at the end of your stay gets immediately released back to your credit card on file. Also, please look out for our Park N Play package that bundles parking with your room rate at savings of up to $25 per night and includes in and out access! As for accepting cash at our Mission Control desk and throughout the hotel, the information you received from my team is incorrect. We prefer credit card usage but we do accept cash and we will be sure to conduct some additional training around this. We hope you will give us another opportunity to earn your business in the future. In service, Matt Sommers, General Manager

Overall, enjoyed our stay. Our room had a weird bathroom set up. When you walk into the room, the toilet was immediately to your right in it's own room and then the shower was next to it in it's own room. The sink was across from them on your left. The shower/toilet walls/door were made of frosted glass. Therefore, there was minimal privacy when going to the bathroom, as you can see the person and hear everything. Our shower also opened up into the room and our floor would get wet easily. This was our room personally. My parents stayed on another floor, and their bathroom layout was different, so this weird layout isn't in every room.

Aside from the bathroom, it was a comfortable stay. Bed was comfy, location and price were great. We rented bikes from Capital Bike rack in front of the hotel next door to get to the National Mall (it is also walking distance). We didn't use the gym or pool, but gym equipment was nice.

Multiple staff members told us different times for pool closures and if we were allowed to bring food up to the rooftop deck. So make sure to ask to confirm when pool closes (we were told 8pm, 9pm and 10pm by 3 different people). We also brought snacks and waters to the roof (because one staff member told us it was ok), but then the bartenders told us we weren't allowed to eat up there and had to pour our waters into a plastic cup they provided.

Good day M M, Thank you for choosing to stay at YOTEL Washington DC. We appreciate your business and value your feedback as we continuously strive to improve everyday for our guests. Based on your feedback it sounds like you stayed in one of our standard Premium Rooms whereas your parents were likely in one of our First Class rooms. Our Premium rooms are our most economical, and therefore smallest room types, but our First Class room types offer some larger spaces and more traditional guest room layouts that you might be familiar with. Thank you for sharing the misinformation you received about the pool hours. Clearly, we have some work to do on some training initiatives. Please note that since we serve food and beverage on the rooftop by the pool that we do not allow outside food or drink by the pool area. We hope you will give us another opportunity to earn your business in the future. In service, Matt Sommers, General Manager

This place has so much potential, it's in a very convenient location close to Union Station, but it seems to be more concerned with being trendy, hip, and "green" than providing a quality experience.

The heat in my room didn't work (I turned it to its highest setting but just blew cold air), the lights in the bathroom kept shutting off when I was in the shower or on the toilet because of a stupid motion sensor, a cabinet door literally came off in my hand when I tried to open it, the sole electrical outlet next to the bed didn't work (forcing ne to leave my phone, which I use as an alarm, across the room), there weren't enough outlets in general (we had to unplug lights to charge our devices), and the room lighting system was on some bizarre control panel straight out of "Star Trek".

When I called "Mission Control" (their moronic name for the front desk) about the heat issue, they never answered, even after 20+ calls.

On the plus side, the room was very clean, the "cabin crew" (housekeeping) was very friendly/efficient, and the coffee station right down the hall (fresh ground coffee available 24/7) was very convenient (just bring your own sweetener if you don't use regular sugar).

The restaurant/bar was very good, if a bit pricey, and has limited menu selections. Convenient if you want to stay in, but better dining options are within a short walk.

I do not recommend this hotel because the room was not clean, there was a stain in my pillow case, the toilet is separate from the shower, and separate from the sink. You can see the person showering/using the toilet from the outside. I would never come here again. Also, there was no microwave in the hotel room and when i asked housekeeping/frontdesk, they didnt have any in the whole hotel

There is an automatic check in/out machine in the lobby, but I tried it many times and still couldn't succeed, so I asked the counter to handle it. The counter staff was very enthusiastic and made me feel very happy. There is a vending machine on the first floor which is very convenient. There are many choices inside. There is a coffee machine on each floor and hot water for making noodles. The room is quite big, and you can change the mode and color by turning on the lights, which is super cool. The disadvantage is that when you use the toilet and your friends play with lights in the room, the toilet lights are turned off. Fortunately, it is not dark, but it is very helpless. What's amazing is that the bed is actually electric and you can adjust the height for watching TV or sleeping, which is amazing. Overall, the hotel was very good. The only drawback was that there was an additional leisure village fee when I booked a room online. However, I wanted to use the swimming pool and gym, but they just couldn't be used. It was a pity.

Traded points with RCI to stay at the Yotel during the 4th of July Weekend, arrived on the 1st and checked out on the 5th. The Yotel formerly the Liason was a 6 minute walk to the Captial building with that the Mall and Union Station( 3 block walk are nearby. This was a perfect spot to stay for the holiday.

The hotel was very clean and it had the theme of a spaceship( Mission Control was the Front Desk). Our room was everything we needed for the stay except there is no bureau to store clothes so you must live out of your suitcase. The only issue during our stay was the phones to the front desk were out then entire time so if we needed something we had to go down to the front desk to request it. Our baggage was handled with care and the valet's gave us great ideas on dining options. We were smart and brought our own water, soda, and snacks which saved us money. There is a nice breakfast spot that looks like a Panera Bread right around the corner. Breakfasts there were great and affordable. The meals in the hotel were typical D.C. on the expensive side. Parking was right under the Yotel and it was $50 a day with elevator access.

Overall I enjoyed our stay at the Yotel and I would not hesitate to stay there or at another location when travelling. The D.C. Yotel is an ideal location for a couple or family travelling to see the sights.

This not a 4 star hotel.
You're paying for location, not much more.
Capitol mall is walking distance.
The TV is not dependable, in fact I was told when overcast/ rain or storms nearby the reception may or may not work.
If one doesn't watch tv, this will not affect you.
The amenities are good...frig, safe, blow-dryer, iron & ironing board.
The beds are unique & comfortable with nice pillows & groovy lighting throughout the room.
The toiletries are community, soap, shampoo, conditioner...nothing personal.
The staff is friendly enough, but don't count on a request to happen right away, in fact, sometimes hours, although mission control states "right away".
There is a nice cafe around the corner for cheaper prices.
The community coffee, water, ice is down the hall or on the next floor if not functional.
Overall, the place is an economy hotel with basic service.
In my opinion, it feels more like a hostel.

We recently visited Washington DC for a family celebration and stayed at YOTEL. While the hotel itself was clean and the room was nicely renovated for the price, the overall experience was overshadowed by the poor customer service.

Only one minor inconvenience with the facility was that coffee is only available for a limited time in the morning, and you have to be quick to grab it from the designated area. However, the real issue was the reception staff. They were unprofessional, impolite, and completely inconsiderate.

Upon arrival, I attempted to check in using the self-check-in kiosk, but it gave me an error. Meanwhile, a long line started forming at the reception. Despite multiple attempts to get the staff’s attention, I was simply told to go to the back of the line and wait for 30 minutes—this was after being outside in the freezing cold and snow. We were completely exhausted, and when I mentioned that I would be leaving a review, their only response was that "Wait in the line" and they could call a manager.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t the only issue we faced. The hair dryer in our room didn’t work, and after calling housekeeping six times with no response, we tried calling the reception four times—again, no answer. I had to physically go down to the front desk, only to be told once more to "wait in line" because no one was available to assist. In the end, they never brought the hairdryer, forcing my wife to leave the hotel with wet hair in the middle of DC’s winter.

Overall, while the hotel itself was decent, the complete lack of customer service (Complete zero) ruined our experience. I would not recommend staying here unless management seriously improves their staff's professionalism and responsiveness

If you are visiting DC, go for another place, unless you like to "wait for ever"

If you are the hotel management and reading this, I hope you reach out and follow up with the issue.

Good news: The Metro's Silver Line now goes to Dulles. You can change at the Metro Center stop for the Red Line to Union Station. It's about an 8-minute walk to the hotel from there. The Metro has escalators and elevators. Enjoy your visit to Washington!

Is it walkable to Capital One Arena or would I need transportation?

That would be a bit of a walk. About 13 minutes. Not bad though, doesn't go through any bad areas.

Great question! We actually brought our Apple TV on the plane as we bring it to most domestic travel spots. And NO, there is no HDMI to plug into the back of the TV. They have no other connections. With the adjustable bed, it would have been great. Oh well. I called and verified.

Each room is different. I was in a twin queen bed room that had a door that did not go to the floor for the toilet, and the sink and vanity were in the actual bedroom. The shower stall was also located so that you stepped out of it into the common area. I was also in a King bed room that had a totally different layout - huge walk in shower with toilet and sink all in one private bathroom I would suggest calling them for details.
