It was lovely coming back to our accommodation each time through the beautiful courtyard. Everything was as advertised and what we saw in the photos before we booked. Small bedroom and large bathroom in our suite but suited us well. Breakfast was fantastic with cereal, bread for toasting, banana bread for a snack later in the day and a platter of fruit. The suite was very nicely styled and had a chest of drawers so once we unpacked, size of room was not a problem. Worth it for the ambience. Some noise from the guests upstairs during the night. The manager was either in sight or would come at the 'ding' of the front bell and was very obliging. Location was fantastic with close proximity to market, city heart and other accommodation where other family members were staying.

If you are prepared to sacrifice a tiny bit of convenience to spend time in as authentic a French provincial pension as you are likely to find in Australia then this is for you.
Our room was not huge but quite adequate and comfortable and decked out in genuine French provincial style, with a great view of the quaint courtyard from the balcony, the breakfast is more than adequate and delicious and the staff very helpful, You can honestly imagine that you have been transported to somewhere in the middle of France. There is very little street noise despite being only a few metres stroll from Fremantle's lively Cappuccino Strip, Fremantle Markets and a comfortable walk across Esplanade Park to the Harbour and Beach. There is even a proper French wine bar next to the entrance.
The downsides, if they bother you, are that there is next to no free parking in the area, access is slightly convoluted (especially after hours) though this helps maintain the quietness and privacy of the site, and there are some narrow (very French!) stairs to negotiate but nothing terrible. It all added to the atmosphere in our opinion.
We loved it and would very happily stay again.

This is our first visit to Australia and our first few nights on Australian soil were spent at Port Mill. It was just what we needed! It was clean and welcoming, the courtyard is beautiful, the beds are comfortable and the breakfast just right. We had fruit juice, granola with fresh milk, fresh fruit, toast with honey and jam and banana cake with tea.
Lucie is brilliant! She did the little extras that made us feel cared for - the room with a view over the courtyard, the use of a phone to sort out our car hire and always a friendly smile! So good in fact that we decided to return for a couple of nights before flying home to England next week.

We were looking for an overnight accomodation with something a bit different.
The Port Mill b&b was the answer...Accomodation very comfortable with a balcony overlooking a European style courtyard. Superb location within easy walking distance to restaurants ,bars and Fremantle sites. The property is very secure with a self operated main gate and your own key for after hours. A memorable stay.

we stayed at Port Mill for only 1 night but would have liked an extra night if we had time to enjoy Fremantle more.
The accommodation is very unique and despite the stairs we loved the room (Leeuwin) which was kept in character with the the old building but comfort was 2020.
The continental breakfast was enjoyable with orange juice cereal a tasty plate of fresh fruit banana bread and wholemeal bread for toast. A Christmas touch of little chocolates, plenty of tea coffee and milk.
The weather waas extremely hot and so some cold water in the fridge would have been very welcome as the water in reception was warm. i thought the price a little high as there was no parking and we had to leave the car at Sardine jetty befor being able to park it closer at night on Essex st.
There are no staff on site and I had to email a message about our arrival as no one was answering the telephone and it did not have message service.
All in all a pleasant stay.

We stayed at this delightful B’n’B as part of our replacement ‘European’ cycle tour... The location is perfect, as the property is set in the most beautiful courtyard just steps away from all the action in Fremantle. We felt comfortable leaving our bikes locked up near the front door as there is a secure gate from the street. The check in was easy, although our cycle from Serpentine took longer than expected the keys were left for us to collect in the Reception. We especially loved the Dutch shipping theme as we had been planning on cycling around the Netherlands. Breakfast was great, and the space comfortable. We will definitely visit again when we next Wander out Yonder...

Had a lovely night at Port Mill B&B. The situation is superb and close to both the centre and the waterfront of Fremantle. Our bedroom was cute and quirky, and overall we thought that the B&B is something reminiscent of what you might find in Europe. So too the beautiful walled courtyard. Inside the B&B you'll find a winding staircase, a reasonably sized bedroom with a Juliette balcony and shutters, a continental breakfast in your room (bar fridge), and comfy beds. Everything was clean and immaculate.

The morning of our stay, we received a phone call to say the room had been double booked which was extremely disappointing. I was told this has never happened, but reading other reviews, it’s not the first time. The solution to this was that the owner had an Air BnB and said we could stay there for the first night and then move to a hotel down the road for the second night. When arriving at the Air BnB, we turned up to the owner’s personal house and her bedroom was ‘our’ room. There were personal belongings all throughout the room and it was dirty. The bathroom was a shared bathroom at the back of the house with all of the owners personal toiletries, throughout. The booking was for a private stay with our own apartment so to then be presented with this, was disgraceful.

We booked a mid winter three day stay at the Port Mill B&B (The Duyfken Suite). We arrived at 2pm and were immediately concerned at the very loud noise & vibration that was coming from the buildings air conditioning condenser units seemingly located within or adjacent to the ceiling space of the room. The problem continued for several hours so we tried to contact someone to fix the issue. The B&B did not seem to have anyone in attendance at the property but we did manage to speak with someone on the phone who told us that they would send someone up within a few minutes. One hour later, no one had arrived & the noise only got worse. We called again and were offered an alternate room in a different hotel two to three blocks away which was not a good option late on a cold wet night. We were then offered “earplugs” but felt this was an unsatisfactory solution especially given the $690 we had spent on the room. By 9:30pm we decided to pack up and relocate to the Rydges hotel a couple of doors down the street to get a decent night sleep. Unfortunately we have been unable to get Port Mill B&B to refund our money for the three day booking - a very disappointing outcome from our perspective.

The B&B is located on one of the main streets off the Cappucino strip so very convenient for all Fremantle has to offer. The accommodation was so beautiful, very quaint and offered very comfortable bed and a good selection of what you need for a stay including tea and coffee making, very good selection, a range of bathroom essentials and a great breakfast is also provided. The bedroom itself was on the small side but that was not an issue as we needed somewhere clean and comfortable to sleep after a big day in Rottnest, a massive room was not necessary.
The only little gripe was that the fan did not seem to work and the air conditioning unit was quite noisy but I am sure the owners will fix that for the next visitor. We just opened the French doors for some air flow which was lovely anyway.
The outside of the property feels like you are in a European courtyard, it is very picturesque.
Communication from the owners was excellent and would recommend this place to anyone visiting Fremantle or Rottnest. It is just perfect

What is the parking situation at the Port Mil?
Answer from PortMillBB317
Perth, Australia4 contributions
Hi David Port Mill Bed and Breakfast unfortunately doesnt have private parking. The best option when staying at Port Mill B & B is the Esplanade Car Park # 11 where a daily ticket is valid from 8am to 8am and costs $11. The Esplande is a 5 minute walk from the B & B. There is also two hourly metered street bay parking in front of Port Mill on Essex St, between 9am - 5pm the rate is $2.80 per 1hr and then it becomes no time limit parking from 5pm to 9am - which is a maximum of $5.60. Guests who book at Port Mill Bed and Breakfast have more extensive parking details included in their confirmation email. Kind regards, Port Mill B & B
